Yes. The Sonos Era 100 supports Amazon Alexa, Bluetooth audio streaming, and Apple AirPlay 2. You need the Sonos app for initial setup, and Alexa additionally requires the Alexa app with the Sonos skill enabled. AirPlay 2 works with Apple devices running iOS 11.4 or later. Bluetooth pairing starts at the speaker, but Sonos says the Era 100 must first be set up on Wi-Fi through the Sonos app.
The three connection methods are separate: Alexa provides voice control, Bluetooth sends audio directly from a paired device, and AirPlay streams from a compatible Apple device. A separately sold Line-In Adapter is required for a turntable, CD player, or other 3.5 mm wired source; that adapter is not needed for Alexa, Bluetooth, or AirPlay.

Alexa runs as a voice service on the speaker. The Era 100 connects to Alexa through Sonos rather than acting as a standalone Alexa setup. You use the Sonos app and the Alexa app, then enable the Sonos skill in Alexa. The exact services and commands available can differ by country and language, so a feature offered in one market is not necessarily offered everywhere.

What you need before setup
- An Era 100 that has been added to your Sonos system in the Sonos app.
- The Alexa app installed on a compatible phone or tablet.
- The Sonos skill enabled in the Alexa app.
- The speaker’s rear microphone switch turned on.
- The top voice-services control enabled so its indicator light is on.
Sonos distinguishes the physical microphone switch from the voice-services control. The rear switch supplies power to the microphone hardware. The separate voice-services control determines whether voice services are active. Sonos notes that when the microphone switch is on but the voice-services light is off, voice control is disabled while other microphone-dependent functions may remain available.
Alexa setup steps
- Open the Sonos app and complete the Era 100’s normal Wi-Fi setup. The speaker must belong to your Sonos system before you add voice services.
- Open the Alexa app on the same account you intend to use for voice control.
- Find Sonos skills in Alexa and enable the Sonos skill.
- Follow the account-linking and device-discovery prompts shown by the two apps.
- On the Era 100, turn on the rear microphone switch and press the top voice-services control until the voice-services indicator is lit.
- Test a basic voice request after discovery finishes. If Alexa cannot find the speaker, repeat device discovery after confirming that the skill is enabled and the speaker is online in the Sonos app.
Alexa compatibility does not mean the microphone is always listening. Either physical control can disable voice operation, and the indicator gives you a visual check of the voice-services state. If Alexa features are missing entirely, check whether the particular Alexa service is offered for your country and language before treating it as a hardware fault.

Using Bluetooth audio
The Era 100 can stream audio from a Bluetooth-enabled phone, tablet, computer, or other source. Sonos’s guide requires the speaker to be set up on Wi-Fi with the Sonos app before it can play audio, even though the audio source itself is connected over Bluetooth. That initial network setup also gives the speaker its normal Sonos configuration and software environment.
Pair a device for the first time
- Finish Era 100 setup in the Sonos app while the speaker is connected to Wi-Fi.
- On the phone, tablet, or computer that will supply audio, open Bluetooth settings and turn Bluetooth on.
- Press and hold the Era 100’s Bluetooth button until the speaker sounds the pairing tone.
- In the source device’s list of available Bluetooth products, select Sonos Era 100.
- Start playback on the source device and adjust volume from the source or the speaker.
Sonos says the mobile device automatically reconnects the next time. If it does not, open Bluetooth settings on that device, select Sonos Era 100 again, and repeat the button-hold procedure if the speaker is no longer shown as available.

Bluetooth troubleshooting
- The speaker is not listed: Confirm that initial Wi-Fi setup in the Sonos app is complete, then hold the Bluetooth button until you hear the pairing tone. Selecting the speaker before the tone may not start pairing.
- Pairing succeeds but there is no audio: Check that playback is actually routed to Sonos Era 100 rather than the source device’s internal speaker, and raise the source volume.
- It worked previously but will not reconnect: Open the source device’s Bluetooth menu and select Sonos Era 100 manually. If necessary, place the speaker back into pairing mode with the Bluetooth button.
- You expected Bluetooth to replace setup: Sonos documents Wi-Fi and Sonos-app setup as a prerequisite. Bluetooth is an audio route after that setup, not a substitute for configuring the speaker.
Apple AirPlay 2 support
Sonos lists AirPlay 2 compatibility for Apple devices running iOS 11.4 or later. From a compatible iPhone, iPad, or other Apple device, choose the Era 100 in the device’s AirPlay output picker and begin playback. The speaker must be reachable from the Apple device on the network used by your Sonos system; if it does not appear, verify that the device and speaker are connected to the intended network and that the Era 100 is online in the Sonos app.
AirPlay and Siri are related but not identical
AirPlay 2 streaming and Siri voice control are separate functions. You can use AirPlay from a compatible Apple device without adding the speaker to Apple Home. If you want to ask Siri to play music through a Sonos speaker, Sonos’s guide describes adding compatible Sonos speakers to Apple Home. The same guide currently limits Siri playback through Apple Home to Apple Music, so adding the speaker to Home does not make every music service Siri-controllable.

AirPlay troubleshooting
- Era 100 does not appear in the AirPlay list: Confirm that the Apple device runs iOS 11.4 or later and that the speaker has completed Sonos Wi-Fi setup. Check network visibility before changing any account settings.
- AirPlay plays on the wrong device: Reopen the AirPlay output picker and select Sonos Era 100 explicitly. AirPlay can send audio to a different available destination if that destination remains selected.
- Siri cannot start a requested song: Add the speaker to Apple Home as described by Sonos, and remember that the documented Siri playback path is currently limited to Apple Music.
Which connection should you use?
| Your situation | Best route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want hands-free control and Alexa routines | Alexa | Voice services are integrated with the Sonos speaker after enabling the Sonos skill. |
| You want to play from a device without using its AirPlay controls | Bluetooth | Pair the source directly with the Era 100 after initial Sonos setup. |
| You use an iPhone or iPad and want Apple’s audio picker or multi-room AirPlay features | AirPlay 2 | Supported on Apple devices running iOS 11.4 or later. |
| You have a turntable, CD player, or another analog source | Line-in | Requires the separately sold Sonos Line-In Adapter and a 3.5 mm auxiliary connection. |
You do not have to choose one method permanently. Alexa is a control layer, while Bluetooth and AirPlay are playback routes. For example, you can use AirPlay from an Apple device at one time and pair a different source over Bluetooth later, subject to the source device’s connection state. The line-in accessory is an additional input, not an alternative setup method for the wireless features.

Optional wired audio: the Line-In Adapter
The Era 100 has no built-in 3.5 mm socket described in the setup guide. To connect a turntable, CD player, or similar analog source, Sonos specifies its separately sold Line-In Adapter plus a 3.5 mm auxiliary cable. Connect the adapter to the speaker, connect the external source with the 3.5 mm cable, and select the line-in source in the Sonos system.

Do not buy the adapter because you want Alexa, Bluetooth, or AirPlay. Those three functions are supported without it. The adapter only matters when your source has a physical analog output and you prefer a wired connection.
Bluetooth version information is inconsistent
Sonos’s current Era 100 product page lists Bluetooth 5.3, while the official Era 100 fact sheet published in 2023 lists Bluetooth 5.0. The fact sheet is available as a Sonos PDF. Because the two official documents may describe different hardware revisions or publication dates, it is not responsible to present one number as universally definitive.
The practical conclusion is unchanged: official Sonos materials support Bluetooth audio streaming. If you are checking a specific unit, retailer listing, or replacement accessory, use the specification attached to that unit or ask Sonos which revision it describes. The version-number discrepancy does not remove Bluetooth compatibility.
What to check when a feature fails
- Confirm basic setup: Make sure the Era 100 appears in the Sonos app and has completed Wi-Fi setup. This is explicitly required before Bluetooth playback and is the foundation for adding Alexa or AirPlay.
- Identify the route: Decide whether the failure concerns Alexa voice control, Bluetooth pairing, AirPlay discovery, or line-in. Each uses a different control and has different prerequisites.
- Check physical controls: For Alexa, verify both the rear microphone switch and the voice-services indicator. A disabled microphone or voice-services light prevents voice control even when the speaker is otherwise working.
- Check app requirements: Alexa needs the Alexa app and enabled Sonos skill. AirPlay needs an Apple device running iOS 11.4 or later. Bluetooth needs the source device’s Bluetooth function enabled.
- Restart discovery rather than guessing: For Bluetooth, hold the speaker’s Bluetooth button until the pairing tone and select Sonos Era 100 again. For Alexa, run device discovery after confirming the skill. For AirPlay, reopen the output picker after confirming network visibility.
- Check regional limits: Alexa service availability varies by country and language. A missing voice feature may therefore be a service-availability limitation rather than a defective Era 100.
- Separate wired issues: If the problem involves a turntable or CD player, verify that the Line-In Adapter and 3.5 mm connection are present. Those accessories have no role in wireless compatibility.
Bottom line
The Era 100 is compatible with all three wireless technologies named in the question: Alexa, Bluetooth audio, and Apple AirPlay 2. Set it up first in the Sonos app over Wi-Fi, enable the Sonos skill and both voice controls for Alexa, use the Bluetooth button and pairing tone for direct Bluetooth audio, and use an Apple device on iOS 11.4 or later for AirPlay 2. Siri playback through Apple Home has the narrower Apple Music limitation, and wired sources require the separate Line-In Adapter.
