It changes Rose’s appearance, including her hair, clothing and visible cursed arm, but it does not alter her statistics, damage, health, movement, weapons, Arcana, relics, abilities or any other gameplay system. Sonia is not a separate playable character.
What the Sonia Style Costume actually is
The in-game item is named the Sonia Style Costume. It is an alternate appearance for Rose, the game’s existing protagonist, rather than a new character slot or a second version of the campaign. Equipping it leaves Rose’s underlying character data intact while replacing her visual model and presentation.

The design reference
The outfit is based on Sonia Belmont from Castlevania Legends. That connection is a visual and thematic reference, not a change to the game’s playable roster. You still control Rose, use Rose’s progression and operate the same combat systems after the costume is selected.
Visible changes to Rose
- Rose’s orange hair is shown as blonde.
- Her normal clothing is replaced by Sonia-inspired green clothing with brown boots.
- The visible cursed arm is absent from the costume’s model.
Those changes are rendered while you play and in story cutscenes. The missing arm is a model or presentation change; it does not remove an ability or disable a mechanic.

Which stats and mechanics stay the same
No independently published numerical bonus or penalty is attached to the Sonia costume. The available descriptions consistently identify it as cosmetic-only. Rose therefore keeps the same gameplay values and systems she has without the outfit.

Damage, health and movement
There is no stronger attack, larger health pool or faster movement attached to the skin. A hit that would damage Rose before equipping Sonia’s outfit uses the same underlying rules afterward. Likewise, traversal does not become easier or harder because the character model looks different.
Weapons, Arcana and relics
Belmont’s Curse combines whip action with weapons, boss-derived Arcana and relic effects. Konami describes the whip as allowing the player to move around freely “like a trapeze artist.” The costume does not replace those systems with Sonia-specific versions. Your current weapons, Arcana and relic effects remain Rose’s systems and continue to behave as they did before the visual change.

The cursed arm is not an ability toggle
The arm disappearing from the model can make the outfit look more than cosmetic at first glance. Nothing in the documented mechanics indicates that Rose loses a power, changes her attack set or receives a different control scheme. The visual model and the gameplay data are separate: the arm is hidden, while Rose’s abilities remain available.
Is Sonia a playable character?
No. Sonia Belmont is represented through Rose’s costume, not through a separately selectable Sonia campaign or moveset. The character-selection question is important because the outfit’s name can sound like a new fighter. After unlocking and equipping it, the game still treats the player character as Rose, with Rose’s stats, equipment and progression.
The reference is specifically Sonia Belmont from Castlevania Legends. That explains the blonde hair and green outfit, but it does not establish a playable Legends-era Sonia inside Belmont’s Curse.

How to unlock the Sonia Style Costume
The costume is unlocked with the Konami Code at the title screen. Shacknews’s October 16, 2026 guide documents the sequence as:

Enter it from the title screen
Use the sequence before loading into a save or campaign. Press each direction or button in order, then wait for the game’s unlock confirmation. The documented method does not require completing a level, defeating a boss or purchasing an additional character package.

Equip it after the unlock message
- Open the pause menu.
- Choose System.
- Select Character Skin.
- Choose Sonia Style Costume.
The outfit is not applied merely by entering the code; it must be selected in the Character Skin menu. If you want Rose’s original look again, return to the same menu and choose the standard appearance offered there.

Combat encounters
Once equipped, the Sonia look appears while Rose fights. Enemy behavior, Rose’s attack output, health rules, movement and equipment interactions remain governed by the normal game systems. The outfit therefore changes what you see during a battle, not the difficulty or the optimal way to approach that battle.

Rose continues to use the same whip-based movement and traversal actions. The costume does not provide a new grappling distance, jump property or movement animation with a different mechanical result. Any visual animation difference should be understood as presentation rather than a new movement value.

Cutscenes
The Sonia appearance is used in cutscenes as well as combat. This makes the costume a consistent visual choice across gameplay and story scenes, but it does not rewrite dialogue, alter the plot or turn Rose into Sonia for narrative purposes.
Progression and loadouts
Changing the skin does not reset or replace Rose’s weapons, Arcana, relics or abilities. It is an appearance selection, so choosing it should be treated like changing a character model rather than starting a different progression path.
What to check if the costume does not appear
The documented unlock flow has two distinct parts: entering the code and selecting the skin. Check them in this order:
- Confirm that the code was entered at the title screen, not after loading into gameplay.
- Verify every direction and the final two platform-specific buttons, including their order.
- Wait for the unlock message before leaving the title screen.
- Open System, then Character Skin; the costume is selected from that menu rather than from the ordinary equipment or weapon screens.
- On PC, use the documented Shift and Space inputs for the final two positions rather than substituting controller buttons.
If the unlock message never appears after a correctly entered sequence, repeat the sequence from the title screen and watch for the confirmation before checking the menu. The available guides do not identify a separate stat requirement, story checkpoint or purchase requirement for this costume.

Release and guide dates
Konami lists Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse with a release date of October 15, 2026. The unlock instructions were published by Shacknews on October 16, 2026, and AllThingsHow updated its skin guide on October 17, 2026. AllThingsHow explicitly describes the change as cosmetic and says Rose keeps her stats, weapons and abilities. Those dates matter because menu labels and button instructions can change with later patches; the steps above reflect the documented release-period wording.
Bottom line for players deciding whether to use it
Choose the Sonia Style Costume if you want Rose to look like Sonia Belmont during fights and story scenes. Do not choose it expecting easier battles, higher damage, extra health, altered movement or a new set of powers. The Konami Code unlocks an appearance option, and the System > Character Skin menu equips it; everything that determines how Rose plays remains unchanged.
