Does the Roborock Saros 10R Need Wi‑Fi? What It Can Do Without the App

No. The Roborock Saros 10R can perform basic cleaning without Wi‑Fi or the Roborock app. Its physical controls can start a full-home or spot cleanup and send the robot back to its dock. Roborock also says the built-in “Hello Rocky” voice assistant works with no network required.

Connecting the robot adds setup through the app and advanced controls such as scheduled cleaning and suction-power selection. The manual specifies a 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network for app pairing, so Wi‑Fi is an enhancement rather than a prerequisite for ordinary cleaning.

Offline versus app-connected operation

There are two practical ways to use the Saros 10R. Offline operation covers the cleaning actions Roborock documents through the robot’s physical controls and the manufacturer-advertised built-in voice assistant. App-connected operation adds configuration and controls that require a network connection.

What the Saros 10R can do with its physical controls

Start a normal whole-home clean

The manual describes powering on the robot and starting a cleaning cycle with its physical control. Roborock’s general support guidance says its robot cleaners can perform a full-home cleanup after a button press without Wi‑Fi. That means you can place the Saros 10R in a suitable starting position, press the cleaning control, and let it run without first creating an account or pairing it to the app.

Offline operation does not mean every app setting is available from the casing. It means the core start-and-clean function is built into the robot itself. The support wording applies to Roborock robot cleaners generally; the Saros 10R manual supplies the model-specific physical-control instructions.

Run a spot cleanup

Roborock’s support guidance also lists spot cleanups as a button-operated function that works without Wi‑Fi. This is useful for a localized spill or a high-traffic patch when you do not need to open a phone app. Use the physical control described in the manual rather than assuming that an app-only map selection will be available offline.

Send the robot back to its dock

The same support guidance says a robot cleaner can return to its dock with the push of a button without Wi‑Fi. The dock must be positioned and powered as normal, and the robot needs a path it can navigate, but an internet connection is not required for the return command itself.

What “Hello Rocky” can do offline

Roborock’s Saros 10R product page says, “Your voice-controlled companion is always ready to help, with no network required.” The statement is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test. On that page, Roborock lists several examples of what the built-in assistant can do without a network:

  • Start cleaning.
  • Pause cleaning.
  • Call a cleanup.
  • Clean a specified room.
  • Adjust cleaning modes.
  • Request dock tasks such as dust emptying.
  • Request mop washing and drying.

These commands are handled by the robot’s advertised built-in voice capability rather than by a cloud service. Roborock does not state that every command is available in every country, language, firmware version or setup. Treat the list as the functions Roborock advertises for the Saros 10R, and check the on-device prompts and your regional documentation if a particular phrase is not recognized.

Voice commands versus app map commands

A spoken request to clean a named room is different from drawing a custom zone or editing a map in the app. Roborock specifically lists room cleaning by voice, but the cited material does not promise that all map-editing and room-management tools continue to work offline. If you need a complex zone, room sequence or saved routine, the app-connected mode is the safer choice.

Dock-related voice actions

Roborock’s product description includes dust emptying and mop washing/drying among the dock tasks that “Hello Rocky” can request. The statement confirms that these actions are advertised as voice functions; it does not guarantee that every dock operation, maintenance setting or consumable alert is available without the app.

What Wi‑Fi and the app add

Initial app setup

The Saros 10R manual describes setup through the Roborock app. Pairing is therefore necessary when you want app-based configuration, remote controls or the connected features presented for the product. It is not necessary merely to press the robot’s physical cleaning control and run a basic cycle.

Scheduled cleaning

Roborock’s support guidance names scheduled cleaning as an advanced option enabled by connecting the robot to Wi‑Fi. A schedule is different from pressing the start button at the moment you want to clean: it stores a future routine in the app and requires the connected setup described by Roborock.

Suction-power selection

Roborock also identifies suction-power selection as a Wi‑Fi-enabled advanced option. The cited guidance does not specify a complete list of power levels or say that every level can be selected from the robot’s physical controls, so do not assume that the app’s full suction menu is reproduced offline.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Other connected features

The Saros 10R product page promotes connected app functions, SmartPlan, Matter and third-party voice-control features. Those descriptions show the broader connected ecosystem, but they do not provide a complete offline status for each item. In particular, the cited sources do not establish that mapping history, camera or pet-related functions, smart-home automations or every third-party voice feature works without Wi‑Fi.

Wi‑Fi requirements when you choose to pair it

The Saros 10R manual specifies 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi for the app connection. If pairing fails, verify that the network your phone is selecting provides a 2.4 GHz band. A router that exposes only a 5 GHz network will not meet the manual’s stated requirement for app setup.

The 2.4 GHz requirement applies to connecting the robot to the app. It does not change the offline controls: the documented button-operated full-home cleanup, spot cleanup and dock return remain available without joining a wireless network.

How to use the Saros 10R without the app

  1. Charge and position the robot. Keep the dock powered and place the robot where it can begin its cleaning route. Offline use still depends on the physical robot and dock being ready.
  2. Use the physical control described in the manual. Power the robot on and start the cleaning cycle from the casing. This is the documented route for a basic cleanup without Wi‑Fi.
  3. Choose a basic cleaning action. Use the button function for a full-home cleanup or the documented spot-cleanup function, depending on the area you want to address.
  4. Pause or stop when necessary. The physical controls provide the basic interaction; the product page also lists pausing as an offline “Hello Rocky” command.
  5. Return the robot to the dock. Press the return control when the cycle is finished or you want the robot to recharge. Roborock’s support guidance explicitly includes dock return among the offline button functions.
  6. Use voice only for advertised commands. If “Hello Rocky” is enabled for your unit and region, try the listed requests for start, pause, room cleaning, mode changes and dock tasks. Do not infer that an unlisted app feature will work by voice.

What you should not assume works offline

The available documentation draws a clear line around basic cleaning and a group of advertised voice commands, but it does not publish a versioned offline feature matrix. The following areas are therefore not confirmed as offline-capable by the cited sources:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Every mapping, map-editing or map-history function.
  • All schedules, recurring routines and delayed starts.
  • Every suction, water-flow or other detailed cleaning setting.
  • Camera, pet-monitoring or image-based functions.
  • Smart-home automations, Matter setup and third-party voice integrations.
  • Remote status viewing, notifications and account-based controls.

This is not a claim that those features are impossible without Wi‑Fi. It is a boundary on what Roborock’s cited product page, manual and support guidance establish. For a feature that matters to your routine, verify its behavior in the current manual or app documentation for your region and firmware.

Troubleshooting an offline cleaning attempt

The robot does not start

First check that the robot is powered on and has charge, then use the physical control specified in the manual. If you are trying a room name, custom zone or schedule rather than a basic cycle, switch to the documented button-operated full-home or spot-cleanup command to determine whether the issue is connectivity-related or a general operating problem.

The voice assistant does not respond

Roborock advertises “Hello Rocky” as working without a network, but also qualifies the product with regional and setup differences. Confirm that the assistant is available on your unit, speak one of the listed commands such as start, pause or return-related dock action, and avoid treating an unrecognized custom phrase as proof that offline voice control is unavailable.

The app cannot pair

When you decide to connect, follow the manual’s app setup flow and use a 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi network. A 5 GHz-only network does not match the manual’s stated pairing requirement. The inability to pair affects app features; it does not remove the documented physical-button cleaning functions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When connecting is worth it

Stay offline if your priority is immediate, local control: press a button for a full-home or spot cleanup, send the robot home, or use the manufacturer-listed built-in voice requests. This approach avoids app setup and does not require a Wi‑Fi network.

Connect the Saros 10R when you need a schedule, app-based configuration or the detailed controls Roborock places behind its connected experience. Use a 2.4 GHz network during pairing, and remember that connected features expand control rather than making basic cleaning possible.

Bottom line

The Roborock Saros 10R does not need Wi‑Fi to clean. Physical controls support full-home cleaning, spot cleaning and a return to the dock, while Roborock advertises “Hello Rocky” voice commands that work with no network required. Wi‑Fi and the app are for setup and advanced options such as scheduling and suction-power selection; the manual’s app connection uses 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi.
