Sometimes—but “Hisense U7” is a family name, not one fixed specification. The 55-inch U7H is documented with two HDMI inputs that accept up to 4K at 120Hz and VRR from 48–120Hz. The 55-inch U7N advertises a newer 144Hz Game Mode Pro and VRR from 48–144Hz, but the cited product page does not give a port-by-port 4K120 breakdown. The 75-inch U7G lists a native 120Hz panel, while its specification table does not establish 4K120 or VRR. Use the complete model number and matching size-specific documentation before buying cables or connecting a console.

The short answer: U7 support varies by generation and size

There is no single HDMI answer that applies to every television sold as a Hisense U7. Hisense has used the U7 name across several generations, and the number of high-bandwidth HDMI inputs, the advertised variable-refresh range and even the features listed in the specification table change between them.

Model evidence HDMI inputs documented for 4K at 120Hz Advertised VRR range Other listed gaming features
55U7H specification sheet 2 of 4 inputs, up to 4K@120Hz; the other 2 are up to 4K@60Hz 48–120Hz FreeSync Premium; Hisense marketing also lists HDMI 2.1 gaming inputs, ALLM and Dolby Vision gaming

These are manufacturer claims for different models and sizes, not results from one controlled comparative test. A larger advertised refresh number on a newer generation does not by itself prove that every HDMI socket supports the same signal.

What the terms actually mean

HDMI 2.1

HDMI 2.1 is an interface specification with higher-bandwidth capabilities than earlier HDMI versions. A television can expose only selected HDMI 2.1 features, and a manufacturer may provide high-bandwidth inputs on some sockets rather than all of them. Therefore, seeing “HDMI 2.1” in U7 marketing does not tell you that every input accepts 4K at 120Hz.

4K 120Hz input

4K 120Hz means the TV can receive a 3,840-by-2,160 signal at 120 frames or refreshes per second through a compatible input. It is different from having a panel that refreshes at 120Hz. The U7G documentation illustrates the distinction: it lists a native 120Hz panel but does not list 4K120 support in its displayed port/features table.

VRR

Variable refresh rate lets the display adjust its refresh timing to the source’s changing frame rate, reducing tearing and uneven motion during games. The useful figure is the range, not just the word “VRR.” Hisense lists 48–120Hz for the 55U7H and 48–144Hz for the 55U7N. Your console or PC must also output a supported VRR signal.

ALLM and FreeSync

ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) allows a compatible source to request the TV’s low-latency game mode. FreeSync Premium is an AMD variable-refresh feature listed on the 55U7H sheet. Neither term, on its own, confirms 4K120 operation on every HDMI port.

What the U7H documentation confirms

Two high-bandwidth inputs on the 55-inch model

Hisense’s 55U7H specification sheet lists four HDMI inputs. Two are rated up to 4K@120Hz, while the other two are rated up to 4K@60Hz. The same sheet gives VRR as 48–120Hz and lists FreeSync Premium. Hisense’s U7H marketing material describes HDMI 2.1 gaming inputs, a native 120Hz panel, 4K 120Hz VRR, ALLM and Dolby Vision gaming.

For a 55U7H, this is a direct answer: use one of the two inputs identified in the model’s documentation for a 4K120 console or PC. Do not assume that an unmarked or lower-bandwidth socket will accept the same signal.

Why the size qualification matters

The cited port allocation applies specifically to the 55U7H sheet. Other U7H screen sizes can use different hardware or input arrangements. Before relying on the two-port figure, match the documentation to the full model and screen size printed on your set.

What the U7N documentation confirms

144Hz Game Mode Pro and 48–144Hz VRR

Hisense’s 55U7N product page advertises 144Hz Game Mode Pro and a VRR range of 48–144Hz. Those figures describe this generation’s gaming capability and are higher than the U7H figures on paper.

What the page does not establish

The cited U7N page does not provide a port-by-port breakdown showing which HDMI sockets accept 4K at 120Hz. Consequently, you should not convert the 144Hz Game Mode Pro claim into an assumption that all four inputs, or even a particular input, carries 4K120 until the 55U7N manual or specification sheet identifies it.

The 144Hz figure also does not mean that every game will run at 144 frames per second. A source device, game engine, selected resolution and cable must all support the chosen mode. On a console, the maximum output is normally lower than a suitably configured gaming PC, even when the television can refresh faster.

What the U7G documentation confirms

Native 120Hz panel

The 75U7G specification sheet lists a 4K display with a native 120Hz refresh rate and four HDMI inputs. That is useful evidence about the panel, but it is not a complete statement about the input signal modes.

No documented 4K120 or VRR claim in the displayed table

The cited U7G port table does not specify 4K@120Hz or VRR support. You should therefore treat those features as unconfirmed for the 75U7G unless the exact regional manual or model-specific specification sheet says otherwise. A native 120Hz panel can still accept only certain combinations of resolution and refresh rate through its inputs.

How to identify your exact U7 before connecting a console

  1. Read the complete model number. Look at the rear label, the original carton or the television’s system/about screen. “U7” alone is insufficient; the suffix and screen size identify the generation and variant.
  2. Match the country and size. Hisense can publish different specifications for different regions and diagonals. A 55-inch sheet should not be used as proof for a 75-inch model.
  3. Find the matching manual or specification sheet. Look specifically for a table that states 4K@120Hz, HDMI input bandwidth and the VRR range. If a feature is absent from the table, treat it as not established rather than inferring it from the panel refresh rate.
  4. Check the television’s HDMI labels. Some sets identify high-bandwidth sockets with a number, “4K 120Hz” text or another gaming designation. Use the label together with the model documentation.
  5. Connect the source to the documented port. For the 55U7H, start with one of the two inputs rated up to 4K@120Hz. For the U7N and U7G, confirm the port assignment in the exact model’s documentation first.

Setting up 4K120 and VRR

Console setup

  1. Connect the console directly to the U7’s documented high-bandwidth HDMI input rather than routing it through an older receiver, switch or soundbar.
  2. Use a cable rated for the signal you intend to send. A cable or intermediate device that cannot carry the bandwidth can force the console down to 4K60 or a lower resolution.
  3. In the console’s video settings, select 4K resolution and 120Hz output if the console offers those options.
  4. Enable VRR in the console settings only after the TV and HDMI connection report that the mode is available.
  5. If the television has an HDMI signal-format or enhanced-format option, select the enhanced setting for that input. The wording and menu location vary by generation, so follow the exact U7 manual instead of assuming a universal label.
  6. Run the console’s built-in video-information test. Confirm that 4K, 120Hz and VRR are each reported as available; do not rely only on the game’s performance menu.

PC setup

  1. Connect the graphics card directly to the documented high-bandwidth HDMI input and install a cable suitable for the target mode.
  2. Open the operating system’s display settings and choose 3,840 × 2,160 at 120Hz, or 144Hz where the exact U7N configuration and graphics hardware support it.
  3. In the graphics driver, enable the matching variable-refresh option. FreeSync terminology is specifically listed for the 55U7H; other U7 generations may expose a different label.
  4. Use an in-game frame-rate limit when necessary to keep rendering inside the television’s advertised VRR window. The U7H range is 48–120Hz; the U7N page advertises 48–144Hz.

Common failures and what they indicate

The source offers only 4K60

  • You may be connected to one of the U7H’s two 4K60-only inputs.
  • An older receiver, switch or soundbar may be limiting the HDMI path.
  • The cable may not sustain the selected bandwidth.
  • The source may need its 120Hz option enabled manually.
  • The television input may still be using a standard signal format instead of its enhanced option, if that control exists on your model.

Test by connecting the source directly to the documented input, replacing the cable with a suitable high-bandwidth model and checking the source’s video-information screen.

VRR is unavailable or flickers

  • Verify that both the source and the TV support the same VRR technology and range.
  • Confirm that the source is inside the advertised window: 48–120Hz for the 55U7H or 48–144Hz for the 55U7N.
  • Check that VRR is enabled on the source and that any low-latency or game mode is active where required.
  • Remove intermediate HDMI equipment while diagnosing the connection.

The TV shows 120Hz but not 4K120

This usually reflects the difference between panel refresh and input mode. A 120Hz panel can accept a lower-resolution 120Hz signal while rejecting 4K120, or the source may be outputting a mode that the selected HDMI port does not support. Return to the exact model’s port table rather than treating the panel specification as proof.

Buying and compatibility checklist

  • Model: Record the full U7 generation and screen size.
  • Port count: Identify how many inputs explicitly accept 4K120; do not count every HDMI socket.
  • VRR range: Compare the source’s output range with the television’s advertised range.
  • Source: Confirm that the console or graphics card can actually generate 4K120 or 144Hz.
  • Cable path: Include the cable, receiver, switch and soundbar when checking bandwidth.
  • Region: Use the specification sheet for the market in which the set was sold.

When the documentation does not state a value, the safest description is “not stated,” not “supported.” That approach prevents a native-panel number or a marketing term from being mistaken for a guaranteed input mode.

Bottom line for each generation

55U7H: Yes, the cited Hisense sheet documents HDMI inputs for 4K120, but only two of the four; VRR is listed as 48–120Hz. 55U7N: Hisense advertises 144Hz Game Mode Pro and VRR from 48–144Hz, while the cited page does not identify the 4K120-capable ports. 75U7G: The sheet confirms a native 120Hz panel and four HDMI inputs, but it does not establish 4K120 or VRR in its displayed table. For any other U7 size or regional variant, check that model’s own documentation before promising HDMI 2.1 gaming performance.
