- Shut down completely. Disconnect the charger and every peripheral. Do not work on the laptop in sleep or hibernation.
- Prepare an ESD-safe workspace. Work on a clean, non-carpeted surface, discharge static safely, and handle modules by their edges. Keep screws organized by location.
- Remove the bottom cover according to the model’s service instructions. Use the correct driver and avoid prying against ports or cables. If opening the chassis would affect a local warranty condition, obtain clarification first.
- Disconnect internal power if the service instructions call for it. Never touch exposed contacts or move components while power is connected.
- Install RAM. Align the notch in each DDR5 SO-DIMM with the socket key, insert it at the socket’s angle, and press it down until the retaining clips secure it. If replacing a module, release the clips first and lift the old module by its edges.
- Install the M.2 SSD. Remove the retaining screw or cover used by the chosen socket, slide the drive into the connector at its insertion angle, lower it flat, and secure it without overtightening. Refit any thermal pad or shield exactly as it was positioned.
- Inspect before closing. Confirm that both memory clips are locked, the SSD is flat and secured, no cable is trapped, and no screw or protective film remains in the wrong place.
- Reassemble and boot. Refit the cover, reconnect the charger, and start the laptop. Give the first boot extra time if the firmware performs memory training.
Verify the result in firmware and the operating system
Verification catches an incompletely seated module before it becomes a software troubleshooting problem.
- Open the firmware information screen and confirm that the expected memory total and storage device are detected.
- In the operating system, check the installed RAM total and the new SSD in the disk-management or storage settings.
- If the SSD is new and does not appear in the file browser, initialize and partition it using the operating system’s disk-management utility only after confirming that it is the correct empty drive.
- If you replaced the boot drive, confirm that the firmware’s boot entry points to the intended operating-system installation before erasing the old disk.
- Run a normal restart and a period of ordinary use before moving important workloads to the new hardware.
