Does Samsung Art Store Require a Subscription? Free Access, Plans, and Costs (2026)

No—not for every art feature. A compatible Samsung TV can show a selection of free artwork and your own photos without a Samsung Art Store subscription. You need a paid plan only for the full premium catalogue. Samsung’s US listing shows plans at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year, while prices, supported models, artwork and promotions vary by country.

The practical question is therefore not whether Samsung TVs charge an unavoidable art fee. It is whether the free selection and personal-photo tools are enough for you, or whether unlimited access to the premium catalogue justifies a recurring payment.

What you can use without paying

Samsung separates its TV art features into free functions and subscription content. On a compatible model, you can enter Art Mode, choose available free artwork or curated selections, and display images from your own collection without adding a paid membership. Samsung’s US product page describes these options as part of the Art TV experience: Samsung Art TV information and FAQ.

Feature Subscription required? What it means
Selected free artwork No Compatible TVs include a limited selection that can be displayed without a paid plan.
Your own photos No You can use personal images at no additional art-service charge.
Full premium Art Store catalogue Yes A membership unlocks the complete paid collection available for your model and region.
Art Mode itself No, where supported The TV can show artwork, photography or personal images and can dim or turn off when the room is empty.

This distinction matters because two seemingly opposite claims are both misleading. Saying that all Samsung art is free ignores the premium catalogue. Saying that you must subscribe to use Art Mode ignores the free works and personal-photo feature.

What the Samsung Art Store subscription adds

The paid plan is intended for viewers who want the complete premium library rather than the smaller free selection. Samsung says its service offers more than 5,000 artworks from over 800 artists, with partnerships that include The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art and Musée d’Orsay. Those figures come from Samsung’s 2026 announcement, not an independent catalogue audit: Samsung Global Newsroom announcement.

A subscription can be useful if you change the display frequently, want access to museum collections, or prefer professionally curated photography and artwork instead of maintaining your own files. It does not improve the television’s panel, sound or normal streaming functions; it pays for access to the additional Art Store library.

Current prices by region

Samsung’s US page, checked October 13, 2026, lists two billing intervals. The figures below are Samsung’s advertised prices for the United States; the page does not establish that taxes are included.

Market and source date Monthly plan Annual plan Stated terms
United States, Samsung US page (October 13, 2026) $4.99 per month $49.99 per year Samsung says you can cancel anytime.
United Kingdom, Samsung Newsroom U.K. announcement (2026) £3.99 per month £39.99 per year Regional pricing; availability and terms can change.

At the listed US rates, paying monthly for 12 months would total $59.88. The $49.99 annual price is therefore $9.89 lower, or about 16.5 percent less, based on arithmetic from Samsung’s published prices rather than a separately stated Samsung discount. The same calculation for the UK figures is £47.88 versus £39.99, a difference of £7.89. Your checkout total may differ if local taxes, currency rules or other charges apply.

Do not treat either country’s price as a worldwide rate. Samsung explicitly says pricing, supported models and available artwork vary by country and region. The amount shown after you select your market and payment method is the relevant one for your account.

How to subscribe on a compatible TV

Samsung’s US instructions place enrollment inside the Art Store menu. Menu wording can differ slightly by model year or software version, but the sequence is:

  1. Turn on the compatible Samsung TV and open Art Store.
  2. Select My Art Store, then open Membership.
  3. Choose the monthly or annual plan offered for your country.
  4. Sign in with a Samsung account, or create one when prompted.
  5. Complete checkout online or use the mobile-payment option by scanning the QR code shown on the TV.
  6. Return to Art Store and select premium works to confirm that membership access is active.

A Samsung account is part of the access process. If the TV displays no Membership option, first verify that the model and region support Art Store, then check that the TV is online and signed into the intended Samsung account. Samsung also says compatible users can manage artwork through the SmartThings app, which is useful for browsing or changing displays without using the remote.

Which Samsung TVs support Art Store?

Compatibility is selective, not universal across every Samsung television. Samsung’s US page identifies The Frame and OLED S95H as supported examples, while noting that availability changes with model year and region. Its 2026 global announcement lists the following examples for selected markets:

Model year in Samsung’s announcement Examples listed
2026 R95H, S95H, QN80H, QN70H, M80H, The Frame and The Frame Pro.
2025 Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED 4K, The Frame, The Frame Pro, Q8F and Q7F; Samsung also identifies selected OLED support.

These are examples from Samsung’s announcement, not an exhaustive worldwide compatibility list. Regional variants can use different model names, and a model sold in one market may not expose the same Art Store functions elsewhere. Check the exact model number printed in your TV settings or on its box, then compare it with the local Samsung support information. You can also open the TV’s Apps or Art Store area: an absent Art Store or Membership menu is a sign that the service may not be enabled for that model or region.

What Art Mode does on the TV

Art Mode turns the screen into a display for artwork, photography or personal images when you are not watching television. Samsung describes automatic dimming or shutoff when no one is in the room, helping the screen behave more like a wall display than a continuously illuminated video panel. Motion or presence behavior depends on the TV’s sensors and settings.

These display functions are separate from catalogue licensing. A television can support Art Mode and personal photos while still offering only the free artwork unless you subscribe. Conversely, paying for the catalogue cannot add Art Mode to a TV that lacks the required hardware or software support.

Is the paid plan worth it?

Use the following decision points before entering payment details:

  • Choose free access if you mainly want to display family photographs, rotate a few included images, or test whether Art Mode fits your room.
  • Consider monthly billing if you want the premium collection for a particular season, event or room redesign and do not know how long you will keep it. Samsung says the subscription can be canceled anytime on its US listing.
  • Consider annual billing if you expect to browse premium works throughout the year. In the US, the listed annual price is lower than twelve monthly payments by $9.89 before taxes or other charges.
  • Check catalogue relevance rather than relying on the headline count. More than 5,000 works sounds substantial, but the value depends on whether the styles, artists and rotating collections match your taste.
  • Confirm eligibility first. A subscription is useful only when your exact TV model, Samsung account and country can access the service.

Samsung has also promoted collaborations and special collections. One 2026 announcement quotes Heeyeong Ahn, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business, saying that a collaboration with A24 expands the service by bringing cinematic storytelling to TV screens. Such launches can change the catalogue’s appeal, but a collection announcement should not be read as a guarantee that every title is permanently available in every market.

Regional trials and promotional offers

Promotions are not universal entitlements. A Samsung Newsroom U.K. announcement described a complimentary 90-day subscription for eligible new customers in Europe in connection with a collection launch: Samsung Newsroom U.K. announcement. That wording makes the offer regional, campaign-specific and dependent on eligibility. It should not be treated as a guaranteed current trial in the United States or another country.

Before accepting a trial, read the checkout terms for its end date, billing currency, renewal behavior and eligible subscriber status. If the offer is absent from your TV or account, the campaign may have expired, may not cover your market, or may apply only to a qualifying purchase.

Troubleshooting common access problems

The Art Store is missing

Confirm that the television is an eligible model for your country, install any available TV software update, and verify that it is connected to the internet. Samsung’s model lists are selective and can change, so use your regional support page rather than assuming that a similarly named model is supported.

You can see free art but not premium works

Free artwork does not prove that a membership is active. Open My Art Store and Membership, sign in to the Samsung account used at checkout, and check the membership status. If you paid through a QR-code checkout, allow time for the account and TV to synchronize, then reopen Art Store.

The payment amount looks different

Check the country selected for the Samsung account, the billing interval and any taxes or charges displayed at checkout. The US and UK figures are regional examples, not a conversion formula for every market.

Your purchased access does not appear on another TV

Sign into the second compatible TV with the same Samsung account and verify that Art Store is supported in that television’s market. A membership does not override hardware, regional or catalogue restrictions.

The practical answer

Owning a compatible Samsung TV does not automatically create a required art subscription. You can use Art Mode, selected free artwork and personal photos without paying. The subscription is optional and exists to unlock the full premium Art Store catalogue. For US customers, Samsung currently lists $4.99 monthly or $49.99 annually; other regions publish different prices and may offer separate promotions. Confirm your exact model and local checkout terms before subscribing.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
