The official PlayStation listing also documents separate audio controls, 3D audio, full subtitles for spoken dialogue, control and tutorial reminders, offline pausing, and manual save points. The published material does not confirm that the PC version has the same accessibility menu, and Wayfarer is not officially named “Easy.”
What “easy mode” means in Phantom Blade Zero
Phantom Blade Zero does not use “Easy” as the official name for its lower-pressure setting. Instead, S-GAME describes a range of preset difficulties, with Wayfarer intended for players who mainly want to experience the story. That makes it the closest equivalent to an easy or story mode, but the distinction matters: the available official descriptions do not list exact enemy-health, player-damage, timing, or resource modifiers.

The game is built around fast wuxia combat, so a lower preset should be understood as a way to reduce the overall challenge rather than a promise that every encounter becomes effortless. The official PlayStation product page calls the difficulty adjustable through alternative presets, while the developer’s State of Play explanation frames the range as a choice for different skill levels. You can therefore select a less demanding starting point without assuming that the game has a conventional menu item literally labeled Easy.

Wayfarer is described for players who “simply want to enjoy the story.” That wording makes its priority clear: it is the appropriate first choice if you are interested in the Wulin setting, characters, and narrative but do not want the combat to be the main test. The official material does not quantify how much easier it is, nor does it promise reduced reaction windows, simplified bosses, or automatic defensive assistance.

Because the setting is a preset rather than a list of individually adjustable sliders, you should not expect to tune every combat variable separately. If you need a very specific accommodation—such as slower enemy attacks or a custom damage multiplier—the reviewed sources do not establish that Phantom Blade Zero provides it.
Hellwalker: a more demanding combat profile
At the challenging end, Hellwalker is described as featuring more advanced and adaptive enemy intelligence. In practical terms, the official explanation presents enemies as reacting in a more sophisticated way, making this preset better suited to experienced action-game players who want opponents to adjust more aggressively.
“Adaptive” should not be read as a detailed technical specification. The developer has not published a complete list of behavior changes, numerical bonuses, or encounter-by-encounter rules in the material available for this article. It is safer to treat Hellwalker as the named high-challenge option, not as a documented set of exact modifiers.

The same official State of Play coverage names Sixty-Six Days as a challenge mode. It is presented alongside the difficulty range, but the reviewed post does not explain its objectives, restrictions, unlock conditions, scoring, or whether it changes the campaign’s normal progression. Do not assume that it is simply another difficulty preset or that it replaces Wayfarer, Hellwalker, or the other standard choices.

Accessibility options confirmed on PS5
The US PlayStation listing provides the clearest feature checklist. These items are separate from the difficulty presets: they help with hearing, learning the game, pausing, and saving, rather than directly changing combat numbers.
Individual audio volume controls
The listing says audio channels can be adjusted individually, including lowering or muting particular sounds. This is useful if one layer—such as effects, music, or dialogue—makes it difficult to hear another. The page does not provide the complete channel names or the exact range of each control, so the documented claim is limited to separate volume adjustment and muting where available.

3D audio
3D audio is listed as a supported feature. On compatible PS5 audio equipment, spatial presentation can help distinguish where sounds originate, which may make combat cues or environmental sounds easier to locate. The listing does not state that 3D audio is required, nor does it describe a calibration process or a specific headset.
Full subtitles for spoken dialogue
Spoken dialogue is fully subtitled according to the product page. This is broader than subtitling only cinematics: the wording covers spoken dialogue generally. However, the available description does not promise caption-size controls, speaker labels, background boxes, color customization, sound-effect captions, or a separate subtitle display duration setting. Those features should not be assumed until a detailed menu guide or platform-specific documentation confirms them.
Control reminders
Players can review control information at any time. A reminder system is valuable when you return after a break, forget a weapon technique, or need to check a command without leaving the game to search for an external guide. The official listing does not say that every button can be remapped, that alternate layouts exist, or that one-handed configurations are supported.
Tutorial reminders
Tutorial information can also be reviewed whenever needed. This separates learning from the first-time onboarding sequence: you can revisit explanations instead of relying on memory after the game introduces a mechanic. The listing does not specify whether tutorials can be replayed as interactive lessons, viewed as text only, or filtered by topic.
Offline pausing during gameplay and cinematics
In offline play, the game can be paused during gameplay or cinematics. That qualifier is important. The official wording does not extend the guarantee to any online activity, connected features, or future modes that may use network communication. If you need to stop immediately for a break, use an offline session and verify the pause behavior before relying on it during a difficult encounter.
Manual save points
The PS5 listing says manual save points can be created. This gives you deliberate control over when progress is recorded instead of relying exclusively on automatic checkpoints. The source does not state how many save slots exist, how frequently manual saves are allowed, whether saving is restricted during combat, or whether a manual save preserves the exact position inside a cinematic or encounter.

How these features help different players
Difficulty and accessibility solve different problems, so choosing Wayfarer is not a substitute for turning on subtitles or adjusting audio. Consider the specific barrier you face:
- You want the narrative with less combat pressure: start with Wayfarer, the story-oriented preset.
- You find a particular sound distracting or hard to hear over dialogue: use the individual volume controls and test a muted or lowered channel.
- You rely on written dialogue: enable the fully subtitled spoken-dialogue presentation before beginning a long sequence.
- You forget commands or mechanics: use the control and tutorial reminders rather than restarting an introduction.
- You need to answer the door, rest your hands, or stop during a scene: play offline so the documented pause function applies.
- You prefer to create your own recovery points: use manual saves when the game allows them, while remembering that the listing does not explain their exact restrictions.
This combination is more flexible than difficulty alone, but it is not evidence of every accessibility feature commonly found in modern games. The official checklist does not mention color-blind presets, aim assist, input remapping, hold-versus-toggle options, reduced motion, screen-reader support, menu narration, or caption customization.
Developer intent versus confirmed functionality
S-GAME founder and CEO Soulframe Liang said in an Epic Games Store News interview published December 12, 2025: “We wanted to create new gameplay that’s accessible to the majority of players.” The statement explains the team’s design goal; it is not an independent audit and does not guarantee that every player’s access needs are met.
The same interview discusses visual cues intended to help players react to attacks. Readable cues can support timing and recognition, but the interview does not establish a dedicated high-contrast mode, an adjustable cue intensity, or a setting that slows incoming attacks. Treat the cues as part of the combat design rather than as a confirmed accessibility toggle.

The detailed list of audio, subtitle, reminder, pause, and save features is attached to the official PS5 product page: Phantom Blade Zero – PS5 Games. The sources reviewed for this article do not provide a PC-specific accessibility checklist.
That means you should not assume feature parity on PC. The same difficulty concepts may appear on another platform, but the available evidence does not confirm that PC includes the identical audio controls, 3D-audio support, subtitle behavior, offline pausing, or manual-save presentation. If you intend to play on PC, check the final PC store page and the game’s launch documentation for an explicit list before purchasing or configuring assistive hardware.

Release timing and why the date needs checking
The US PlayStation listing currently gives a scheduled release date of October 29, 2026. The official State of Play article gives October 28 for the US and selected regions. A one-day difference can reflect regional launch timing or a listing update, so verify the live store page for your account region rather than treating either date as universal.

The feature information is also subject to change before launch. Menus, platform support, and mode descriptions can be revised in a final build or patch. The most reliable last-minute check is the current platform listing and the developer’s final accessibility notes.
A practical setup checklist
- Choose Wayfarer if your priority is the story and you want the lower-pressure preset.
- Open the audio settings and balance individual channels before starting a long session.
- Turn on subtitles for spoken dialogue and check how they appear during both gameplay and cinematics.
- Locate the control-reminder and tutorial-reminder screens so you can reopen them without leaving the game.
- If pausing is essential, confirm that you are playing offline before relying on pause during gameplay or a cinematic.
- Create a manual save when the game permits it, then verify that you can identify and reload that save.
- If you are on PC, confirm each feature on a PC-specific listing instead of assuming the PS5 checklist carries over.
What the official information does not establish
Several common questions remain unanswered by the published descriptions. There is no confirmed list of numerical differences between Wayfarer and the harder presets, no documented control-remapping option, and no stated support for specialized visual, motor, or cognitive accommodations beyond the reminders, subtitles, audio controls, pausing, and saves listed above. The sources also do not explain whether difficulty can be changed freely after a playthrough begins.
Those omissions do not prove that the features are absent; they mean only that they are not confirmed in the available official material. Wait for a final in-game menu breakdown or platform documentation before making a purchase decision based on an unlisted accommodation.
Bottom line
Phantom Blade Zero supports a story-focused, lower-pressure preset called Wayfarer, alongside more demanding choices such as Hellwalker and the named Sixty-Six Days challenge mode. On PS5, the official listing additionally confirms individual audio controls, 3D audio, full spoken-dialogue subtitles, control and tutorial reminders, offline pausing, and manual save points. It is a meaningful baseline for approachability, but it is not a complete accessibility specification, and PC support remains unconfirmed.
