Usually, yes—but check the exact model. Lenovo tablets generally use a microSD card slot rather than a full-size SD slot. Documented limits range from FAT32 cards up to 512GB to exFAT cards up to 1TB or 2TB, depending on the tablet. Cellular (WWAN) versions may put the microSD card in the same tray as a nano-SIM, while Wi-Fi (WLAN) versions may have a dedicated slot.
What kind of SD card fits a Lenovo tablet?
The removable format is normally microSD. A full-size SD card does not fit directly; using one would require an adapter, and the tablet still needs a microSD slot. Lenovo may label the feature “microSD card slot,” “microSD card reader,” or “expandable MicroSD card.”
Storage expansion is separate from the tablet’s built-in storage. For example, Lenovo’s Tab P12 configurations list 128GB or 256GB of internal UFS storage and a microSD slot.
Lenovo models and documented card limits
These are Lenovo-published specifications. They describe supported hardware and file systems, not a guarantee that every Android app can be installed or moved to the card.

How to check whether your specific Lenovo tablet has a slot
- Find the exact model. Open Settings and look under About tablet for the model name and model number. The code on the rear label, box, or receipt can distinguish WLAN and WWAN variants.
- Look up that code in Lenovo PSREF. In the model’s specifications, find Storage, Card reader, or Expansion. Confirm the slot type, maximum capacity, and FAT32 or exFAT requirement.
- Inspect the edge and tray. A removable tray or covered slot may be marked with a microSD symbol. On a cellular model, the tray may also be marked for a nano-SIM.
- Check the software after insertion. With the card installed, open Settings and search for SD card or Storage. Android should show the card and offer formatting or eject options if it is recognized.
Choosing a card for storage expansion
Match the capacity to Lenovo’s limit
Do not assume that a newer or physically larger card will work simply because it fits. A 1TB microSD card is a reasonable search target for models whose Lenovo specification allows 1TB. The Yoga Tab Plus Gen 2 and Tab Plus Gen 2 specifications document support up to 2TB, while the cited Tab P12, Yoga Tab 11, and Tab P12 Pro specifications document up to 1TB.
Rank #2
- Expand your storage in a flash: ideal for Android smartphones and tablets, Chromebooks, and Windows laptops.
- Up to 140MB/s transfer speeds to move up to 1000 photos per minute
- Load apps faster with A1-rated performance
- View, access, and back up your phone’s files in one location with the SanDisk Memory Zone app
- Relax knowing your card is backed by a 10-year limited warranty by SanDisk
Match the file system
Some models distinguish the limit by file system: Yoga Tab 11 and Tab P12 Pro document FAT32 up to 512GB and exFAT up to 1TB. Tab P12 and Tab Plus Gen 2 specifically document exFAT support at their stated limits. Formatting erases the card, so copy files elsewhere first and use Android’s format prompt or a computer only after confirming the required format.
Plan for the way you use the tablet
- Photos, videos, music and downloads: removable storage is well suited to these files.
- Camera or recorder files: check the app’s save-location setting after mounting the card.
- Apps and games: Android and the individual app determine whether moving or adopting storage is available. A Lenovo hardware specification does not promise that every app supports removable storage.
- Cellular connectivity: on WWAN models, confirm that the microSD and nano-SIM share a tray before buying; installing or removing one may require removing the other.
Installing and using a microSD card
- Power off the tablet or follow Lenovo’s instructions for safely opening the tray.
- Place the microSD card in the tray in the orientation shown by the tray or diagram. Do not force it.
- Reinsert the tray fully, then turn on the tablet.
- Open Settings and Storage (the exact wording can vary by Android version) to verify the card.
- If Android asks whether to format the card, confirm the file system and capacity first. Formatting deletes existing data.
- Use Eject in the storage settings before removing the card to reduce the risk of corruption.
When a Lenovo tablet does not recognize the card
- Remove and reseat the card with the tablet powered off.
- Check that it is a microSD card, not a full-size SD card, and that its capacity and file system are listed as supported for your model.
- Back up the card and format it in a compatible file system if Android offers that option.
- Test the card in another device. A failed, counterfeit or damaged card can look like a tablet fault.
- Recheck the model code: a WWAN tray may require the card to sit correctly beside the nano-SIM, and a different regional variant may have different hardware.
If the card still does not appear after these checks, Lenovo support can confirm the slot and specification for the exact machine-type code.
