Nintendo describes HOT WHEELS Infinite Rush as supporting split-screen play with friends for up to four players and lists “Single system (1-4)” in the player-count panel. That means one Switch 2 can host a session for one, two, three or four people; a second console is not part of the local requirement.

Each participant needs a compatible controller. Nintendo’s UK listing states that multiplayer requires one compatible controller per player. In a four-player session, plan for four supported controllers connected to the same Switch 2. The listing does not endorse a particular controller model, so check compatibility for the controller type and region you intend to use before buying an accessory.

Online requirements
- Nintendo Switch Online membership: Nintendo says a membership is required for online play and is sold separately.
- Nintendo Account: An account is required for the online features.
- Internet access: The console must be connected to the internet for online functionality.
- Eligible hardware: Nintendo’s product copy says the online mode is available only between Nintendo Switch 2 users.
Nintendo also warns that online service is not available in every country and that terms apply. Availability of the subscription or service can therefore depend on the account’s region, even though the game itself is listed for Switch 2.

The listing does not promise online play with the original Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC or any other platform.

The two numbers answer different questions:
- 1–4 on a single system: how many people can use one Switch 2 for the local mode. The mode is split-screen rather than a shared single camera view.
- 2–12 online: the advertised online participant range. Two is the listed minimum for an online session, while twelve is the listed maximum.
Nintendo does not state whether every online activity supports the full twelve-player range, whether all modes use identical limits, or how players are grouped into races. Treat 2–12 as the product-level online specification, not as a guarantee that every playlist always contains twelve racers.

An online session will not start
- Check the console’s internet connection.
- Confirm that the Nintendo Account is signed in.
- Confirm that the account has Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo identifies the membership as a requirement and says it is sold separately.
- Check the region in which the account and service are being used. Nintendo says online service is not available in all countries.
- Ask every participant to verify that they are on Nintendo Switch 2. The official restriction is Switch 2 users only.
