For an owner-occupier in a strata or similar scheme, the clearest stated benefit is reasonable temporary-accommodation costs under Contents Insurance, subject to policy limits, exclusions and conditions. The page does not establish how the policy treats your unit’s fixtures or how it interacts with strata building insurance.
What Horizon Bank’s Plus option is—and what it is not
Horizon Bank presents combined Building and Contents Insurance, with Building & Contents Plus as its highest level of cover. The bank says it acts under its own Australian Financial Services Licence and an agreement with Insurance Australia Limited, which issues the insurance under the CGU brand. Horizon Bank describes its information as general advice and directs customers to the relevant CGU Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and Target Market Determination (TMD). Horizon Bank’s Building & Contents Insurance page is a summary, not the full policy wording.

The bank’s summary lists theft and vandalism; flood, rainwater run-off, storm, storm surge and tsunami; fire, including bushfire; emergency repairs; visitors’ belongings; and liability in some situations. These are examples of advertised cover, not a complete list of insured events or conditions.

Horizon Bank specifically says that a customer with Contents Insurance who owns and lives in a home in a strata or similar scheme may be covered for reasonable temporary-accommodation costs. The page also warns that additional limits, exclusions and conditions apply. This is the clearest strata-specific statement available on the public summary page; it does not settle every question about eligibility or a particular claim.

In particular, the page does not explain which fixtures belong to the strata building policy and which might be treated as a lot owner’s contents, or how a claim would be coordinated with the owners corporation’s insurance. Check the strata policy and ask the insurer about any items whose classification is uncertain before choosing a contents sum insured.
What Building & Contents Plus advertises
Horizon Bank’s page, accessed 7 October 2026, describes these figures and features. They are summary-page statements; the PDS, your Certificate of Insurance and any selected options determine the terms of an individual policy.

Does Plus make sense if you only want contents cover?
The public page describes Plus as a Building & Contents option and describes its extra 25% safety net in terms of rebuilding or repairing the home. It does not establish that this building benefit applies to a standalone contents policy. Nor does its summary establish that the Plus accommodation period automatically applies to contents-only cover. If you want contents cover without building cover, ask Horizon Bank or CGU which option and accommodation limit apply to your exact policy, and check the PDS and Certificate of Insurance.
Can you insure for more than the online calculator says?
Horizon Bank says its online building and contents calculator is a guide and that customers are responsible for insuring for full replacement value. The bank also says that if the insured amount exceeds the cost to repair, replace or rebuild, CGU pays the actual cost. This answer refers to the online building and contents calculator; it does not tell you how to value your contents inventory or establish a contents sum insured.

What to verify before buying or renewing
Because the summary page does not provide the full policy wording, use the documents for your policy’s start or renewal date to settle questions that depend on definitions, conditions or your chosen options. Check:
- Whether your owner-occupied strata home and the cover type you want meet the policy’s eligibility rules.
- How contents are defined, including how the policy treats lot-owner fixtures and items already insured under the strata building policy.
- The covered events, exclusions, claim-settlement basis and the trigger and duration for temporary accommodation.
- Your contents sum insured, any listed-item requirements, optional portable-contents cover and relevant per-item limits.
- The excesses and selected options shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
Horizon Bank directs customers to the applicable PDS, TMD and Certificate of Insurance. A CGU PDS surfaced for ANZ has different distribution-partner wording and is not a substitute for Horizon Bank’s current policy documents.

Verdict
Horizon Bank’s public page gives strata owner-occupiers a useful, specific signal: Contents Insurance may include reasonable temporary-accommodation costs when they own and live in a strata or similar home. Its Plus summary also advertises a longer accommodation period and a building safety net, but the page does not resolve how those features apply to contents-only cover. Treat this as a promising lead to investigate, not enough information to judge the policy’s fit or claim terms without the applicable PDS and Certificate of Insurance.
