Google documents calendar-event creation as a separate Gemini Apps workflow, while Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook and Apple Calendar each have their own interoperability features. An AI Overview may help you find or summarize information, but the published AI Overview documentation does not establish that an Overview writes an event to a calendar account.
That is a documentation-based conclusion, not a claim that no private experiment, account-specific test or future rollout can ever exist. Google’s announcements describe links, follow-up questions, language controls and transitions toward AI Mode; they do not describe an “Add to calendar” action from an Overview.

What Google AI Overviews are documented to do
Google Search AI Overviews are generated answers shown in Search with links to supporting webpages. Google later described asking follow-up questions from an Overview and continuing into AI Mode. Those capabilities concern finding, explaining and navigating information. They are different from an authenticated calendar operation that creates or edits an event in a user’s account.
Google’s announcement about connecting AI Overviews to the web is here: New ways to connect to the web with AI Overviews (August 15, 2024). A later update describes Gemini upgrades for AI Mode and AI Overviews at AI Mode in Google Search and AI Overviews get Gemini upgrades (January 27, 2026). Neither announcement documents creating an event in Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar from an Overview.

Because an Overview is not documented as a calendar-writing surface, do not treat a date, time or venue that appears in its text as an event that has already been saved. You must use a calendar workflow that explicitly confirms the target account and event creation.
Three Google experiences that are easy to confuse
Search AI Overviews
This is the answer panel in Google Search. Its documented interaction model is reading a generated response, opening source links, asking follow-up questions and, in applicable experiences, moving into AI Mode. The published descriptions do not include a calendar permission prompt, a target-calendar selector or a successful-event confirmation.
Gemini Apps
Google’s Gemini Apps help page separately documents creating, finding and editing calendar events. It says you can ask Gemini to add an event by including “Add this to my calendar” or “@Google Calendar add this event” in your prompt. Google Calendar use requires connecting Google Workspace, being signed in and having Keep Activity turned on. Gemini can also work with named calendar applications from HONOR, OPPO, Samsung, TECNO and Xiaomi. Those supported calendar apps are not available in Gemini in Google Messages.

Gemini in Gmail
Google Workspace describes an “Add to Calendar” button that appears when Gemini detects event details in an email. That action starts in Gmail, using the message’s detected details. It is not evidence that a similarly named control exists in Search AI Overviews. Keep the starting product clear: Search Overview, Gemini Apps and Gmail are separate surfaces with separate permissions.

What the documented Gemini calendar workflow can and cannot do
Requirements before asking Gemini
- Sign in to the Google account that owns or can access the target calendar.
- Connect Google Workspace if you want Gemini to use Google Calendar.
- Turn on Keep Activity, which Google lists as a requirement for the Google Calendar connection.
- Use Gemini Apps rather than assuming that a Search Overview has the same connected-app permissions.
Account availability, organizational policies and rollout status can affect what you see. If Gemini does not show calendar access, check the account connection and activity setting in Gemini’s own controls rather than expecting an AI Overview to provide a fallback.
A documented prompt pattern
In Gemini Apps, include the event details and an explicit calendar request, for example: “Add this to my calendar: project review, 2:00–2:30 p.m. on April 22, 2027, at the main office.” Google’s documented wording also allows “@Google Calendar add this event.” Review the proposed title, date, time zone, recurrence and calendar before accepting it.

The phrase is an instruction for Gemini Apps. It should not be copied into an Overview with the expectation that Search will execute it. An Overview can display an answer containing event details without having permission to create anything.
Important Gemini limitations
Google says Gemini Apps cannot add or invite people to events. It also cannot add or update some details on an existing event, including the existing event’s location or description, according to the help page. When those fields need changing, use the calendar application itself. Google also warns that Gemini may hallucinate or provide outdated information; review the sources and verify the final event in the calendar.
Outlook: documented transfer and connected-account options
Exporting Outlook to Google Calendar
Microsoft documents a route from Outlook to Google Calendar: export an Outlook calendar to an iCalendar file, then import that file into Google Calendar. The instructions are at Export an Outlook calendar to Google Calendar.

If an appointment changes later in Outlook, the imported copy in Google Calendar does not automatically update. This is a file transfer, not a live two-way synchronization service and not an action launched by an AI Overview.

Viewing a personal calendar in Outlook work or school
Microsoft also documents connecting one Outlook.com or Google account to an Outlook work or school account so personal events can be viewed and managed there. See Show personal events on your work or school calendar.
This connected-account arrangement is configured in Outlook and its account settings. It does not mean that Search AI Overviews can select the account, create a meeting, or guarantee that edits made in one calendar will be reflected everywhere. Organization policies may limit whether the connection is available.
Apple Calendar: what Google’s help index establishes
Google Calendar Help lists a topic for adding Google Calendar events to Apple Calendar, along with separate guidance for managing Google Calendar invitations in other calendar services and syncing with computer programs. The help index is at Google Calendar Help.

The indexed result does not itself provide a detailed Apple setup procedure, and it does not connect Apple Calendar setup to AI Overviews. Therefore, the supported conclusion is narrow: Google provides separate interoperability guidance for getting Google Calendar events into Apple Calendar, but that guidance is not documented as an AI Overview action.
If you create an event through Gemini Apps in Google Calendar and want to see it in Apple Calendar, follow the current Google and Apple account-connection instructions for your device and account type. Check the Apple Calendar account list afterward to confirm that the event appears in the intended calendar. Do not assume that visibility in Apple Calendar means an Overview created the event or that every edit will synchronize in both directions.

What to do when you want an event created
If you use Google Calendar
- Open Gemini Apps, not just a Search results page.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the account whose calendar should receive the event.
- Connect Google Workspace and enable Keep Activity if Gemini asks for those requirements.
- State the event title, date, start and end times, time zone, location and recurrence, then include “Add this to my calendar” or “@Google Calendar add this event.”
- Review Gemini’s proposed event and open Google Calendar to verify that it was actually saved.
If your primary calendar is Outlook
- Decide whether you need a one-time copy or a connected view. Export/import is a snapshot; a connected Outlook arrangement is a separate account feature.
- For a one-time copy, use Microsoft’s Outlook export and Google Calendar import instructions.
- For a connected personal calendar in a work or school Outlook account, use Microsoft’s connected-calendar setup and confirm that your organization permits it.
- Create or edit the event in the calendar that should be authoritative, then verify the other view instead of relying on an Overview.
If you need Apple Calendar
- Use a documented Google Calendar or Apple account connection, depending on where the event is stored.
- Review Google Calendar Help’s Apple Calendar topic and the current account settings on your device.
- After setup, check the target calendar, time zone and recurrence in Apple Calendar.
- Make future edits in the calendar designated as the source of truth unless your setup explicitly documents two-way synchronization.
Why an event may appear not to work
- Wrong product: You asked in Search AI Overview, which has no documented calendar-creation control, instead of Gemini Apps or the calendar app.
- Wrong account: Gemini or the calendar app is signed in to a different Google, Outlook or Apple account.
- Connection not enabled: Google Workspace is not connected or Keep Activity is off for Gemini’s Google Calendar integration.
- Unsupported action: You asked Gemini to invite attendees or change an existing location or description, which Google lists among its limitations.
- Snapshot mistaken for sync: An Outlook calendar imported into Google Calendar will not automatically reflect later Outlook edits.
- Calendar visibility issue: The event was saved to a different calendar, hidden calendar list or different time zone. Open the calendar application and inspect the event directly.
- AI error: Gemini can produce inaccurate or outdated information. Verify date, time, location and recurrence before relying on the result.
Bottom line on Outlook and Apple Calendar compatibility
Google’s published Search documentation does not document direct event creation from AI Overviews, whether the desired destination is Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar. Use Gemini Apps for Google’s documented AI calendar workflow, Gmail’s separate event action when it is offered, or the calendar providers’ own account and import tools. Outlook export/import is a snapshot, and Google’s Calendar Help lists Apple Calendar setup separately; neither is presented as a bridge from an AI Overview.
That wording reflects the evidence without overstating it: an undocumented experiment or later rollout could change what some users see, so check the current product interface and official help before assuming a new capability is generally available.
