Garmin Venu 3 works with compatible iPhones and Android phones through the Garmin Connect app. Pairing, synchronization and supported phone notifications are available on both platforms, but messaging interaction is not identical: Android supports Garmin’s customized text responses, while iPhone does not support replying to text messages from the watch.
Compatibility depends on the phone’s operating system, Android edition, Google Play support and—in some cases—the exact phone model. Garmin’s US support requirements accessed on October 13, 2026 should be treated as a current snapshot, not a permanent guarantee.

Compatibility at a glance
| Phone platform | Garmin-listed minimum | Additional requirement | Replying to texts from the watch |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone | iOS 18.2 or later | The phone must be a supported model and use Garmin Connect for setup | Unavailable through iOS |
| Android | Android 9 or later | Android must natively support Google Play; Android Go devices are unsupported | Customized responses are available through Garmin Connect; the phone sends the text |
These are the requirements on Garmin’s US compatibility information at the date above. Garmin can change app and operating-system requirements, and its support material identifies some phone models that did not pass internal testing. Check Garmin’s live compatibility guidance for your exact model before buying or changing phones.
What works on both iPhone and Android
Garmin Connect handles the relationship
Venu 3 is designed to be added through Garmin Connect rather than treated as a simple Bluetooth accessory. The app guides the watch into pairing mode, discovers it and asks you to confirm a six-digit code shown on the watch and phone. Bluetooth pairing by itself is not the complete setup process.

Once the watch is connected through Garmin Connect, both platforms can provide supported phone notifications on the watch. Which notification controls are exposed depends on the phone operating system, the app generating the alert and the operating-system version.
Notifications are supported, but actions can differ
On either platform, the watch can display supported incoming notifications and let you manage the actions that the operating system makes available. Garmin’s guidance cautions that the exact actions can vary with iOS versions, and Android phone manufacturers can also expose different notification controls. Seeing a notification on the watch therefore does not mean every phone offers the same reply, dismissal or interaction options.
Phone-model support is separate from operating-system support
Meeting the listed iOS or Android minimum does not automatically make every phone compatible. Garmin flags models that did not pass its internal testing. That qualification matters especially for less common Android phones, modified software builds and devices sold in regions with different Google services. Use the current compatibility listing for the specific phone model, not just its operating-system number.
Android support and text replies
Android can send customized responses
Garmin lists Venu 3 among the watches that can use customized text responses through Garmin Connect on Android. When a message arrives, you can select one of the available responses—or a response you have configured where supported—and Garmin Connect instructs the phone to send it.

The watch is not sending an independent cellular message. The paired Android phone performs the sending, so the phone must be connected and able to send texts. Normal carrier, account and plan limits still apply. If the phone has no service, the messaging app is restricted, or the carrier does not permit the message, a response selected on the watch may not be delivered.
Android requirements that are easy to miss
- The Android version must meet Garmin’s listed minimum.
- The phone must include native Google Play support. A device that relies on a different app store or an altered software environment may not meet this requirement.
- Android Go devices are not supported for this pairing.
- The exact phone model still matters because Garmin has identified models that did not pass internal testing.
These conditions explain why two Android phones running similar versions can behave differently. The operating-system number is only one part of Garmin’s compatibility decision.
iPhone support and the text-reply limitation
Pairing and notifications still work
Venu 3 can be paired with a supported iPhone through Garmin Connect. The watch can show and manage supported notifications according to the controls that iOS makes available. You can therefore use an iPhone for the core phone connection without losing the watch’s notification stream solely because it is an Apple phone.

Garmin’s notification guidance states that watch-based replies to text messages are unavailable through iOS. You may see an incoming message and use whatever notification actions iOS exposes, but you should not expect the Android-style customized reply feature on an iPhone.

This is a platform limitation rather than a pairing failure. Re-pairing the watch, changing a notification setting or installing the app again will not turn iOS into the Android reply workflow. If replying from your wrist is a deciding feature, choose a supported Android phone instead.
How to pair Venu 3 with a new phone
Use Garmin Connect’s device-adding flow on the new phone. Garmin’s new-phone instructions put the watch into pairing mode and require confirmation of a six-digit code.
- Prepare the old phone, if you still have it. Remove the watch from Garmin Connect on the old phone and remove it from that phone’s Bluetooth device list. This prevents the old connection from competing with the new setup.
- Install Garmin Connect on the new phone. Use the official app for your platform and sign in as required by the app’s setup flow.
- Put Venu 3 into pairing mode. Start the watch’s pairing process rather than relying on the phone’s generic Bluetooth screen.
- Add the watch inside Garmin Connect. Select the option to add a device and follow the Android- or iPhone-specific prompts displayed by the app.
- Confirm the six-digit code. Check that the code on the phone matches the code on the watch, then confirm it on both devices.
- Finish the platform prompts. Allow the notification and connection permissions that Garmin Connect requests if you want the watch to receive supported phone notifications.
If the old phone is still available, completing the removal in the first step is particularly important. Pairing the watch with the new phone while it remains registered to the old phone can leave the setup attached to the wrong device.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat to check when pairing does not work
1. Verify the operating-system requirement
Check the phone’s software version against Garmin’s current requirement for your platform. The minimums can change as Garmin Connect is updated, so an older phone that once paired may no longer meet the current app requirement after a phone or app update.

2. Check Android’s edition and Google Play support
On Android, confirm that the phone natively includes Google Play. Android Go is excluded, and a phone without native Google services does not satisfy Garmin’s stated Android conditions even if its version number appears high enough.
3. Confirm the exact model
Garmin’s compatibility material identifies some models that did not pass internal testing. If your phone is a niche, imported or heavily modified model, consult the live model list before spending time on repeated pairing attempts.
4. Use Garmin Connect, not only Bluetooth settings
The supported process is app-based: open Garmin Connect, place the watch in pairing mode, add it through the app and verify the six-digit code. A watch that appears in the phone’s Bluetooth menu has not necessarily completed Garmin’s setup.

5. Remove the old connection when moving phones
If the watch was paired to another phone that you still possess, remove it from both Garmin Connect and the old phone’s Bluetooth list before starting again. This is Garmin’s documented preparation for a new-phone setup.
Best Value
- Physical size - 45 x 45 x 12 mm - Fits wrists with a circumference of 135-200 mm
6. Distinguish pairing problems from feature limits
An iPhone that pairs successfully but offers no text-reply button is behaving according to Garmin’s iOS guidance; replies from the watch are unavailable through iOS. Conversely, an Android phone that cannot pair at all should first be checked against the operating-system, Google Play, Android edition and model requirements.

| Priority | iPhone | Android |
|---|---|---|
| Pair Venu 3 through Garmin Connect | Supported on compatible phones | Supported on compatible phones |
| Receive supported phone notifications | Supported; available actions vary by iOS version | Supported; behavior depends on Android and the phone model |
| Send a customized text response from the watch | Not available through iOS | Supported through Garmin Connect, with the phone sending the text |
| Key compatibility checks | Current iOS minimum and exact model | Current Android minimum, native Google Play, non-Go edition and exact model |
For buyers who only need a dependable Garmin Connect pairing and notification display, either supported platform can work. For wrist-based text responses, Android is the relevant choice because Garmin documents that feature there and explicitly excludes it on iOS.
How to make a buying decision before switching phones
If you already own an iPhone
Confirm that the iPhone meets Garmin’s current software and model requirements, then plan to use Garmin Connect for setup. Expect notification viewing and supported actions, but plan to answer texts on the phone itself.
If you already own an Android phone
Verify native Google Play support, check that the device is not an Android Go model, and look up the exact model in Garmin’s current compatibility material. If those checks pass, customized text responses can be available through the watch, subject to the phone’s connection and carrier service.
If you are choosing between an iPhone and Android phone
Make messaging interaction the deciding question. The basic connection is cross-platform, but the ability to send a text response from Venu 3 is documented for Android and unavailable through iOS. Other notification actions remain dependent on the operating system and phone model.
Bottom line
Garmin Venu 3 works with both compatible iPhones and Android phones through Garmin Connect. Check the current OS and model requirements before pairing, use the app’s pairing mode and six-digit verification process, and remove the old phone connection when moving devices. The decisive difference is messaging: Android can support customized text responses sent through the phone, while iPhone users can receive and manage supported notifications but cannot reply to texts from the watch through iOS.
