Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is no longer an active live service. Square Enix announced that service ended on October 6, 2026, at 11:00 p.m. PDT. The official shutdown materials do not announce an offline conversion, so there is no supported offline version you can rely on today.
The notice also says account information will be deleted after all end-of-service procedures are complete. It does not say when deletion will finish or document exactly what an installed copy does after shutdown.

The short answer: do not count on offline play
The usual question—“Does FF7 Ever Crisis need Wi-Fi?”—has changed because the service itself has ended. Square Enix’s End of Service Notice, dated July 7, 2026, sets the termination time at October 6, 2026, 11:00 p.m. PDT. That date has passed.

That means you should not tell yourself that an installed copy is now an offline game. At the same time, Square Enix has not published a technical statement saying that every installed copy cannot launch, so the exact behavior on a particular phone, tablet, or PC remains undocumented.

What changed at the service-end date?

The producer’s letter, published July 8, 2026, confirms the same shutdown date for the Japanese and Global versions: Square Enix producer’s letter. It explains the decision but does not add an offline-play procedure.
Why the old “internet required” answer is incomplete
Before the shutdown, Ever Crisis was delivered as a service with accounts, server-side content, virtual items, and recurring updates. Those characteristics made a network connection part of normal use, but the shutdown notice does not provide a mode-by-mode technical list showing which menus or battles required a connection. It is therefore more accurate to distinguish the historical live-service period from the current situation than to make a blanket claim about every screen.
Before October 6, 2026
Players used the service through the supported mobile and Steam releases. The official notice records September 7, 2023 as the App Store and Google Play launch date and December 6, 2023 as the Steam launch date. The service’s account and content systems were operated by Square Enix, so an installed client was not documented as a self-contained offline release.
After October 6, 2026
The service-end date has elapsed. There is no official announcement that turns the client into an offline game, and the sources do not promise continued access to cloud saves, story chapters, battles, or inventory. Treat any app that still opens on a device as an unconfirmed client state, not as proof of a supported offline mode.
Can you still launch an installed copy?
Square Enix’s notice does not answer that precise question. It confirms the end of the service but does not describe an error message, title screen, maintenance screen, login response, or local-play capability. Results can therefore differ by platform, installation state, cached data, and what the app attempts to contact.
Do not infer any of the following without an official statement:
- That every copy is guaranteed to fail at startup.
- That a copy which reaches a menu can complete a battle or save progress.
- That cached story assets constitute an officially supported offline edition.
- That reinstalling the app will restore access or bypass account checks.
If you test an existing installation, the result is only an observation about that device at that moment. It does not establish a service-wide guarantee, and deleting the app may remove the only locally cached files you still have.

Is an offline version planned or preserved?
The reviewed official sources do not announce one. This is narrower than saying an offline edition will never exist: Square Enix has not expressly ruled out every future release in the cited materials. The defensible position is simply that no supported offline conversion has been announced.
The absence of an announcement also means there is no official download link, offline activation method, save-export utility, or preservation timetable to follow. Be cautious with unofficial installers or claims that a modified package restores the service; they are not evidence of an authorized version and can create security or account risks.
What happens to your Ever Crisis account and save data?
The End of Service Notice states: To protect users’ personal information, account information will be deleted once all procedures associated with the end of the service have been completed.
Read the tense carefully. It describes the announced policy; it does not confirm that deletion had already finished by the time of the notice’s later cutoff.
The notice does not provide a completion date, a downloadable account archive, a player-controlled save export, or a migration path to another title. It also does not promise that cloud saves or purchase history will remain available after the procedures finish.

Those terms do not replace the specific shutdown notice or create an offline entitlement.
What you should not assume
- Your account data has already been deleted; the notice gives no completion date.
- Your account will be restored if the service returns.
- Your progress can be transferred to another Final Fantasy game.
- A screenshot, local cache, or platform backup is equivalent to an official save export.
What happened to Red Crystal refunds?
The refund process was separate from game access and was limited to eligible residents of Taiwan who had unused purchased Red Crystals. The official Red Crystal Refunds — Taiwan Residents Only page says the eligible balance was calculated at October 6, 2026, 11:00 p.m. PDT, the service-end time.
That page also says requests are closed after the deadline. Its instructions described opening the game and navigating its menus during the historical claim window; those directions should not be read as confirmation that the client or service remains usable now. The process was not a way to retain access, preserve an account, or convert Red Crystals into offline content.

- Do not uninstall it casually. Square Enix has not published an offline package or a restoration method. Removing the app can remove locally cached data without creating an official archive.
- Do not enter payment information. Red Crystal sales ended with the July 7, 2026 notice, and the service-end date has passed.
- Record what you already own. If your personal records matter, save screenshots of locally visible information for your own reference. This is not an account export and cannot recreate server data.
- Check only official announcements. A genuine preservation build or data policy change would need to come from Square Enix rather than an unofficial download page.
- Do not treat a successful launch as a guarantee. An app that opens may still depend on unavailable services when it reaches login, loading, matchmaking, purchases, or saves.

Can you play Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis offline?
No supported offline mode is announced. Because the live service ended on October 6, 2026, you should not rely on the installed client as an offline game.
Does FF7 Ever Crisis need Wi-Fi?
The current issue is not choosing Wi-Fi versus mobile data: the service has ended. The official materials do not document a working offline or post-shutdown connection mode.
Can I still play after the servers shut down?
The shutdown notice does not document the behavior of an installed client after service end. It neither guarantees continued play nor states that every copy is unable to launch.

The cited refund page covered eligible Taiwan residents with unused purchased Red Crystals and says requests closed after October 6, 2026. It was not a general refund or an offline-access program.
