Does Datarails Work With Google Sheets? Setup, Sync, and Security

Datarails documents importing Google Sheets as a source and announced a separate native integration. Here is what is known about setup, sync behavior, and security—and what to verify.

Yes. Datarails documents Google Sheets as a source for reports and dashboards, and on October 1, 2026, it announced a native Google Sheets integration for finance teams. The documented source-file workflow and the newer native integration are distinct: the available setup instructions cover the former, while the announcement does not give a complete setup guide or refresh schedule for the latter.

What the Google Sheets integration does

Datarails’ support article describes bringing a Google Sheet into the platform as a data source for reports and dashboards. After import, the data appears on a version tab and can be mapped to the database like data from another source. Datarails’ Google Sheet Integration support article was updated March 30, 2026.

Separately, Datarails announced a native Google Sheets integration on October 1, 2026. The announcement describes custom columns that persist through data refreshes and global filters intended to show only authorized data in a given sheet. It does not document the complete setup flow, eligibility or rollout conditions, or refresh cadence. The launch announcement should not be treated as a step-by-step guide to that newer feature.

How to set up the documented source-file flow

The support article describes a general import and mapping flow, not a complete sequence of screen-by-screen instructions. It says users can provide a Google Sheets link or select a file through the File Name field. Once imported, the data appears on a version tab and can be mapped to the database. Because the article’s text does not describe every action shown in its screenshots, use Datarails’ current in-product guidance or support for the exact steps in your account.

  • Choose the documented source-file route if you are following the support article’s workflow.
  • Provide the Sheet link or choose the file through the File Name field.
  • Review the imported data on the version tab, then map it to the database as you would another data source.

In this source-file flow, comments are removed from the file before upload; do not assume comments will be preserved in the imported data. The article does not establish whether this handling also applies to the newer native integration.

Does Datarails sync when a Google Sheet changes?

For the documented source-file integration, Datarails can be configured to synchronize data only when it detects changes in the source Google Sheet. The support article places this option in Filebox Settings and says it reduces database size and optimizes performance. It does not state how quickly a change is detected or how often checks occur.

The October 1, 2026 native-integration announcement says custom columns persist through every data refresh, but it does not specify the refresh trigger or cadence. Do not assume the source-file option in Filebox Settings governs the native integration.

What is established about security?

The native-integration announcement says global filters can be applied so only authorized data appears in a given sheet. Datarails’ FinanceOS page also describes role-based permissions and governance controls generally. Those statements do not explain how every permission or filter works specifically in Google Sheets.

Datarails’ Security and Compliance support page, updated May 13, 2024, links to security and compliance documents, but the page itself does not state their contents or current certification scope. Before using sensitive finance data, ask Datarails for current documentation and review the exact controls, certification scope and audit period, retention, access model, and contractual commitments with your security team.

Questions to settle before implementation

For the native integration, confirm current availability, setup instructions, access and permission behavior, and refresh timing directly with Datarails. For either workflow, agree internally on what data should appear in each Sheet and who should have access. Datarails lists Google Sheets among its integrations on its integrations page; that listing does not replace feature-specific setup or security documentation.
