Cyberpunk 2077 supports cross-progression through cloud saves linked to a CD PROJEKT RED account. Update the game, open Load Game, choose Cross Progression, connect the account, create a save that displays the cloud icon, then sign in with that same account on the other platform and load the save.
The important limitation is content parity: the destination installation must contain the content used by the save. A base-game save can move to the Ultimate Edition, but a save that uses Phantom Liberty cannot load in an installation that does not include the expansion.

What “cross-save” means in Cyberpunk 2077
CD PROJEKT RED calls the feature cross progression. It stores saves in the cloud under your CD PROJEKT RED account, allowing you to continue the same playthrough on another supported installation rather than manually copying a file.
The system covers the latest save in each ordinary save category:

Those saves are uploaded automatically after you enable the feature and create a save marked with a cloud icon. The other platform will not see the file until its copy of the game is connected to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.

Cross-progression is different from cross-play. It transfers progression data; it does not place players from different platforms in the same multiplayer session. Cyberpunk 2077 is primarily a single-player game, so the relevant feature here is moving your character, quests, inventory and other save data between installations.
What you need before transferring a save
Prepare both installations before attempting the move. The essential requirements are:

- The latest available game patch on the source and destination platforms.
- A CD PROJEKT RED account that can be connected to the game.
- A newly created save with a cloud icon on the source platform.
- The same game content on the destination installation, including Phantom Liberty when the save depends on it.
Do not rely on an old save created before cross-progression was enabled. Make a fresh manual save after linking the account, then confirm that the cloud symbol appears in the save list. That gives the service a specific file to upload and makes it easier to identify the correct save on the second device.
How to enable cross-progression and upload your save
- Update the game. Install the latest patch available for your platform. Cross-progression is a game feature, so an outdated installation can hide the relevant menu or fail to synchronize correctly.
- Open the save menu. From the title screen, choose Load Game.
- Select Cross Progression. Use the Cross Progression option shown in the load-game interface.
- Connect your CD PROJEKT RED account. Follow the sign-in or account-linking prompt. Use an account you can also access on the destination platform.
- Create a new save. Return to the game, make a manual save, and check the save list for the cloud icon. The service also handles the latest Quick and Auto saves in their respective categories.
- Leave the save available. Keep the game connected long enough for the cloud-marked save to appear. If you immediately close the application before the save is uploaded, the destination may not have anything to display.
The cloud icon is the practical confirmation that the save is eligible for cross-progression. A save without that indicator should not be assumed to be available on another platform.
How to load the save on another platform
- Install and patch Cyberpunk 2077 on the destination platform.
- Start the game and open Load Game.
- Choose Cross Progression if the menu asks you to activate or view cloud saves.
- Sign in to the same CD PROJEKT RED account used to create the cloud-marked save.
- Check the list for the uploaded Quick, Auto or Manual save, then load it.
If the save is not listed, do not overwrite your local saves while troubleshooting. First verify the account, patch level, cloud icon and content installed on the destination. Those checks address the most common causes of a missing cross-save.

Cross-progression does not remove the requirement for the destination installation to contain the same game content. CD PROJEKT RED states that the game must have matching content in order to load a cross-progression save.

In practical terms, moving a save does not make Phantom Liberty appear on the destination platform. The destination copy must include the expansion when the save contains expansion-dependent content. The available support information does not establish a universal cross-buy license between storefronts, so check the destination platform’s entitlement rules rather than assuming one purchase covers every platform.

Platform generation and patch-support limits
Cross-progression should not be confused with equal feature support on every console generation. After Patch 1.6, CD PROJEKT RED stopped delivering new content updates and improvements for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Those versions continue to work and receive technical support, but they do not receive the later content path available on newer hardware.

A save that depends on Phantom Liberty therefore cannot be used on a PS4 or Xbox One installation that lacks the expansion. Even when a base-game save is technically compatible, the older consoles do not receive the newer content updates that define the current-generation version.

CD PROJEKT RED’s 2025 management report records the release of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Nintendo Switch 2. The report also records launch sales of Nintendo Switch 2 cartridges, confirming that a physical edition exists for that console.
The account-based cross-progression rules apply to cloud-marked saves, but the cited support material does not publish a separate Switch 2 procedure or a platform-by-platform compatibility matrix. On Switch 2, look for the Cross Progression option, connect the same CD PROJEKT RED account and make sure the installation contains the content used by the save. If the option is absent or a save is rejected, update the game and consult the Switch 2 edition’s current support instructions; do not assume that a physical cartridge alone guarantees a particular cloud feature.

For readers moving from another platform to Switch 2, the safest test is a base-game manual save with a cloud icon. After confirming that it appears on Switch 2, test an expansion save only if the Switch 2 installation includes the corresponding Phantom Liberty content.

Why a cross-save may be missing
The accounts do not match
A save linked to one CD PROJEKT RED account will not appear when the destination is signed in with a different account. Reopen Load Game and Cross Progression on both platforms and compare the account used for linking. Do not create a second account just to test the menu; that can make it harder to identify where the original save was uploaded.
The save was never cloud-marked
Cross-progression depends on a newly created save that shows the cloud icon. Create another manual save after linking the account, then check the save list before closing the game. Quick and Auto saves are also synchronized, but the category’s latest file must have been created after the feature was configured.
One installation is out of date
Install the latest patch on both platforms. A version mismatch can prevent the cross-progression interface from appearing or leave the destination unable to interpret the uploaded save.

The destination lacks expansion content
If the save was created with Phantom Liberty, a base-game-only installation cannot load it. Install the expansion or use a save created before the expansion was installed. A base-game save, by contrast, can load in the Ultimate Edition.
The platform is an older console generation
PS4 and Xbox One remain supported for technical issues, but they stopped receiving new content updates and improvements after Patch 1.6. Do not expect those versions to accept content that was developed only for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

What cross-progression does not guarantee
- It does not make every edition interchangeable. Expansion-dependent saves still need the expansion on the destination.
- It does not restore content that an older platform never received after Patch 1.6.
- It does not prove that a single storefront purchase transfers to every other platform. Ownership and cross-buy policies are handled by the relevant platform stores.
- It does not upload every historical save simultaneously. The service uploads the latest save in each supported category.
Cyberpunk 2077 has sold over 35 million copies, and Phantom Liberty has sold over 10 million, according to CD PROJEKT RED figures reported in 2025. Those totals do not change the technical requirements: the account, cloud icon, patch level and content installed on the destination remain the decisive checks for an individual transfer.
