Availability depends on your destination, phone, and domestic plan. Wi‑Fi Calling can help in some places, but it cannot make emergency calls over Wi‑Fi outside the U.S.
Boost’s two international options at a glance
The first question is where you will be when using the service. If you are physically outside the United States and want your Boost number to keep working, you need the roaming product. If you are in the United States and want to call or text someone in another country, you need the international-calling product instead.

How Global Roaming works when you travel
What the add-on is for
Global Roaming is the relevant service when you take your Boost phone abroad and want to use cellular talk, text or data. It is separate from ordinary domestic roaming. A domestic plan that works throughout the United States does not automatically authorize your phone to register on an overseas network.

Boost describes Global Roaming as an add-on for selected destinations. Your line must have an eligible monthly domestic plan, and the handset must be compatible with the international service. A phone that is unlocked or technically capable of foreign bands is not, by itself, proof that Boost will provision roaming for that line.
Check the destination before buying
Coverage is destination-limited. “90+ countries” is an overall count, not a guarantee that your particular country, island, territory or transit stop is included. Boost also warns that destinations, features and terms may change. Verify the exact country in the Boost app or ask Customer Care, especially when an itinerary includes multiple countries.
- Check every country where the phone will connect, not only the country where you begin the trip.
- Confirm whether talk, SMS and data are all offered there; a destination may not provide every feature.
- Ask whether your specific domestic plan is eligible for the add-on.
- Confirm that your exact phone model and software version are supported.
Enable Global Roaming in the Boost app
Activation is handled in the Boost app rather than by changing a hidden carrier code. Complete it before leaving the United States so you can resolve an eligibility or billing problem while you still have reliable service.

- Open Manage Add-Ons.
- Choose Enable Global Roaming.
- Review the destination and service terms shown for your line, then confirm the add-on.
- Keep the confirmation available until the trip is over, and check that the add-on appears on the correct phone number if your account has multiple lines.
Prepare the phone before departure
Boost recommends setting up Wi‑Fi Calling before you fly. On an iPhone, open Settings > Cellular > Wi‑Fi Calling and follow the registration prompts. On many Android phones, the path is Settings > Connections > Wi‑Fi Calling; menu names can vary by manufacturer and software version.

Do not turn on cellular data roaming until you understand what your selected Global Roaming service includes. If data roaming is part of the service for your destination, enable it in the phone’s cellular or SIM settings after landing. Keeping it off can prevent unexpected cellular data use, but it also prevents the phone from using roaming data.
Connect after landing
Once you arrive, allow the phone several minutes to register. If it does not connect, move outdoors or to an area with a clearer signal, restart the phone, and verify that Airplane Mode is off. Then check that the Boost add-on is active, the correct SIM or eSIM line is enabled, and cellular data roaming is switched on when your plan requires it.
To call the United States while abroad, dial +1, the three-digit area code and the U.S. number. To call a local number, dial +, the destination country code, the city or area code and the local number. Local dialing rules can differ, so save important contacts in international format before the trip.
Global Talk & Text is for calling other countries from the U.S.
Global Talk & Text solves a different problem: you remain in the United States while contacting a person or business in another country. It does not turn your line into an overseas roaming plan, and it does not provide mobile data or cellular service when you travel abroad.

Boost advertises this add-on with unlimited international calling to more than 100 countries and unlimited international texting to more than 191 countries and destinations. Those are separate destination lists, so a country included for texting is not necessarily included for calling. Check the current terms for the exact country and type of communication you need.
Use the country’s international dialing format when placing a call from the U.S. A plus sign followed by the country code is generally the clearest format on a mobile phone. For texting, save the recipient’s number with the appropriate country code so replies route correctly.
If you are already overseas, Global Talk & Text is not a substitute for Global Roaming. The deciding factor is your physical location when the Boost line is being used, not the nationality of the person you are contacting.

Why domestic roaming does not cover international travel
Boost’s domestic-roaming FAQ describes an allowance of 100 domestic voice-roaming minutes per month. That allowance applies to partner-network use within the United States. It explicitly excludes international voice roaming, international SMS roaming and international data roaming.

This distinction explains a common failed-travel setup: a customer sees “roaming” in a domestic plan description and assumes the same benefit applies in Europe, Mexico or elsewhere. It does not. International use requires the separate Global Roaming eligibility and destination support described above.

Wi‑Fi Calling may work outside the United States in some countries and on some compatible devices. It can be useful in a hotel, apartment or office where Wi‑Fi is strong but the local cellular signal is weak. It may also let your Boost number handle ordinary calls and messages without depending on a roaming radio connection.
Availability is not universal, and Wi‑Fi Calling does not remove the need to check your international service eligibility. A phone may display a Wi‑Fi Calling setting while the carrier, destination or account does not support the service there.

Most importantly, Boost says that calls to 911 and international emergency numbers such as 112 or 999 will not work over Wi‑Fi outside the United States. Do not rely on Wi‑Fi Calling for emergency assistance abroad. Learn the local emergency number, keep a way to reach local services, and use a local cellular connection or other method that the destination supports.
Before-you-go checklist
- Identify whether you need Global Roaming or Global Talk & Text based on where you will be located.
- Check every destination in the Boost app or with Customer Care immediately before departure.
- Confirm that your monthly domestic plan and exact phone are eligible.
- Enable the appropriate add-on under Manage Add-Ons and save the confirmation.
- Set up Wi‑Fi Calling while still in the United States if your phone supports it.
- Save U.S. and local contacts with full international dialing codes.
- Download maps, boarding passes and other essentials for offline use in case data service is delayed.
- Record the local emergency number; do not assume 911, 112 or 999 will work through Wi‑Fi Calling.
Troubleshooting when Boost will not connect overseas
The add-on cannot be enabled
Recheck the domestic plan, phone model and destination. An ineligible plan or unsupported handset can prevent activation. If the app shows conflicting information, contact Customer Care before travel and ask them to verify the line, not merely the account generally.
The phone shows no service after landing
Confirm that the intended SIM or eSIM is active, Airplane Mode is off and the phone has been restarted. If data is supposed to be included, turn on cellular data roaming. Try automatic network selection first; if the phone still cannot register, briefly toggle the network-selection setting or restart again in an area with open sky.
Calls work but data does not
Check the cellular-data line and roaming switch, then verify that data is included for the destination. A roaming package can expose different features by country, so voice service alone does not prove that data is available. Use Wi‑Fi for large downloads until the account’s destination terms are confirmed.
Wi‑Fi Calling will not register
Connect to a stable Wi‑Fi network, make sure Wi‑Fi Calling was configured before departure, and confirm that the phone’s software is current. If ordinary calls work over cellular but Wi‑Fi Calling does not, treat the Wi‑Fi feature as unavailable rather than assuming that repeated toggling will create international emergency capability.
Which option should you choose?
Choose Global Roaming when the Boost handset itself must function while you are outside the United States. It is the appropriate path for receiving calls on your Boost number, sending texts from abroad and using mobile data where the destination and plan support those features.
Choose Global Talk & Text when you are staying in the United States and your goal is to contact overseas numbers. It is not the right add-on for a trip, because it does not provide the roaming connection needed by a phone located abroad.
If your travel involves several countries, frequent data use or a destination with uncertain support, verify each country and feature before paying for an add-on. Boost’s published prices, destination lists and feature availability can change, so the app’s current account-specific result is more reliable than an old plan description or a domestic-roaming allowance.
