Yes, but only optionally. Lotus Apps says Bobara uses a coarse location while the app is in use to obtain local weather through Apple WeatherKit. It is not described as continuously collecting a precise GPS trail. If you deny location access, the developer says Momo’s sky remains clear and Bobara does not ask again.
There is no published Bobara accuracy percentage, back-test or independent validation study. The practical answer is that Bobara can show weather-themed conditions for your area, but nobody has established how closely that display matches a particular street, building or address.

What Bobara does with your location
Bobara is an entertainment app from Lotus Apps, LLC for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. Its visual centerpiece is Momo’s onsen, which changes to show rain, snow, wind or thunderstorms. The app also provides Home Screen widgets and an Apple Watch complication. Those features need a weather context, so Bobara can request a location when it is allowed to do so.
The developer’s description is specific: if you grant permission, the sky follows your real weather through Apple WeatherKit, using a coarse location only while the app is in use. Coarse location is an area-level position rather than an exact point intended to identify your front door. The published behavior therefore describes a foreground weather request, not an always-on location history.

That distinction matters. “Uses your location” does not automatically mean “tracks everywhere you go.” Based on the documented behavior, Bobara receives enough area information to request weather while you are actively using it. Public information does not establish that Bobara maintains a continuous background trail, nor does it establish a background-refresh schedule for widgets or the watch complication.
What happens when you say no
Lotus Apps says that declining permission leaves the sky clear and that the app does not ask again. Bobara can still be installed and opened, but its weather scene will not be tied to your current conditions under that documented behavior. A clear sky in the app after a denial is therefore an expected permission outcome, not evidence that the weather service is reporting sunshine.
Can Bobara track where you are?
The available description does not support a claim that Bobara continuously tracks your movements. It says coarse location, while the app is in use. That is narrower than precise, all-day GPS collection. At the same time, no independent privacy audit has verified the implementation, so it would be too strong to promise that every version behaves identically beyond what Lotus Apps has stated.

Apple WeatherKit is the named weather provider. That tells you where Bobara’s weather data comes from, but it does not by itself tell you how accurate the result will be at your address. A provider can generate a forecast for a grid cell or modeled location, while conditions at a particular building vary because of terrain, elevation, coastline, urban heat, wind exposure and the timing of a shower.

Bobara is also a visual, entertainment-focused product. Its purpose is to make Momo’s onsen reflect weather and to support a collection of teas you actually bought; it is not documented as a professional warning or observation system. Do not interpret a changing scene as a guarantee that precipitation is occurring at your exact coordinates.
How accurate are Bobara’s forecasts?
No Bobara-specific forecast score has been published. There is no documented percentage for correct rain calls, no station-by-station comparison, no back-test over a defined period and no independent validation study. A numeric accuracy claim would therefore be invented rather than measured.
The honest conclusion is narrower: Bobara uses WeatherKit and may provide a useful local weather indication, but the precision of that indication at one home, office or campsite is unquantified. Accuracy can also change with the type of event. A broad, stable storm is easier for a model to represent than a short, isolated shower or a gust affected by nearby hills and buildings.

Why a forecast can differ from what is outside
Official meteorological guidance explains several sources of mismatch that apply to weather apps generally:

- Grid resolution: The Australian Bureau of Meteorology says forecasts are delivered on grids about 6 kilometres across. Two devices only a short distance apart can be assigned different grid cells.
- Location detection: A service may determine a position with GPS or an IP address. Those methods can produce different levels of precision, especially indoors or on a fixed network.
- Station distance: The Bureau notes that an observation station can be as much as 100 kilometres from the selected location. A station reading is not the same as a forecast for your exact point.
- Localized precipitation: Rain and snow can begin or end within a small area. One street may be wet while another nearby remains dry, particularly during convective showers.
- Terrain and elevation: Hills, valleys, coastlines and changes in height alter wind, temperature and precipitation. A modeled grid value smooths over those local effects.
These limitations do not prove that Bobara is inaccurate. They explain why even a well-functioning forecast can disagree with a window view. WeatherKit’s name does not remove the underlying spatial and timing limits of weather modeling.
What broader survey numbers do—and do not—show
A NOAA-repository study reported that 51.5% of respondents believed a weather-app forecast covered their town, while 22.3% believed it covered their specific location. Among respondents who had observed rain nearby, 71.3% called the forecast accurate and 19.2% called it neither accurate nor inaccurate. NOAA reported those figures in 2024.
Those percentages describe people’s interpretation of weather-app forecasts, not Bobara’s performance. They cannot be converted into a Bobara accuracy rate, and they do not test WeatherKit separately. Their useful lesson is that many users read a town-level forecast as if it were a promise about one address.

- Check the permission state. If location access was denied, Bobara’s documented fallback is a clear sky. The scene may be behaving exactly as designed rather than displaying a live weather result.
- Check whether you are actively using the app. The developer describes location use while the app is in use. Public documentation does not promise that a widget or complication refreshes at the same moment as the open app.
- Consider the scale of the event. A shower, snow band or thunderstorm can be highly localized. Conditions at your window may not represent the whole forecast grid.
- Consider terrain and elevation. A nearby hill, valley or exposed coastline can produce a different wind or precipitation result than the modeled area.
- Allow for timing. A forecast is an estimate for a period, not a sensor reading updated at every second. A shower can move through between data updates or before the model’s stated period begins.
For urgent decisions—driving in severe weather, outdoor work, aviation, water activities or emergency preparation—use an official warning and observation service appropriate to your country rather than relying on Bobara’s decorative scene.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does Bobara work if Location Services are turned off?
With Location Services disabled, Bobara cannot obtain the location permission described by Lotus Apps. The documented result of refusing permission is a clear sky, so turning off the service should be treated as equivalent to withholding access: the app may open, but its weather scene will not be localized through your device position.
On current iPhone and iPad software, you can review the setting at Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. If Location Services is on, select Bobara and choose an available permission that allows use while the app is active. If you previously selected “Don’t Allow,” iOS may require you to change the permission in Settings because the developer says Bobara does not ask again after a denial.

What Bobara says about privacy
The App Store listing reports “Data Not Collected.” Apple states that this privacy label is a developer-provided disclosure and has not been verified by Apple. It is useful information, but it is not the same as an independent audit of the app’s code, network traffic or every operating-system component involved.
Lotus Apps also describes Bobara as requiring no account or sign-in and as having no analytics. Those are the developer’s stated product characteristics. They do not change the narrower location fact: when permission is granted, the app uses a coarse location while it is in use to request weather.
No complete, independently verified privacy-policy summary is established in the public material reviewed for this article. Details such as retention periods, exact request timing, widget refresh behavior and whether any location-derived value is stored should be treated as unresolved rather than inferred from general iOS behavior.

How to interpret Bobara’s weather display
Use Bobara as a local visual cue and a companion to its tea-logging loop, not as a measuring instrument. A sensible reading method is:
- Grant location only if you are comfortable with the stated foreground, coarse-location behavior.
- When the app is open, treat the scene as a WeatherKit-backed indication for an area, not a point measurement.
- Expect short, localized rain and wind events to disagree with what you see outside.
- For a decision with safety or financial consequences, verify conditions with an official forecast, warning or nearby observation.
- If the scene remains clear after a permission denial, change the iOS permission in Settings; do not diagnose that as forecast accuracy.
Bobara’s planned price is a $4.99 one-time purchase, with Lotus Apps describing that purchase as planned for November 9, 2026. Availability and final commercial details can change, so that date and price should not be read as a permanent promise.
What is established—and what is not
| Question | Established answer |
|---|---|
| Does Bobara use location? | Yes, optionally. Lotus Apps says it uses a coarse location while the app is in use when permission is granted. |
| Does it use a precise, continuous GPS trail? | That behavior is not described. The published explanation specifies coarse, foreground use. |
| What powers the weather? | Apple WeatherKit. |
| What happens after denial? | The developer says the sky stays clear and Bobara does not ask again. |
| What is Bobara’s forecast accuracy percentage? | No Bobara-specific percentage, back-test or independent validation study has been published. |
| Why can the display differ from conditions outside? | Forecast grids, location-detection limits, localized precipitation, terrain, elevation and station distance can all create differences. |
| Is “Data Not Collected” an independent audit? | No. It is the developer’s App Store privacy disclosure, which Apple says has not been verified. |
| Is a background-refresh schedule guaranteed? | No such Bobara-specific guarantee is established in the available public information. |
Bottom line for location and accuracy
Bobara can use your location, but only after you allow it, and Lotus Apps describes that use as coarse and limited to the time the app is in use. Denying access leaves the sky clear. WeatherKit supplies the underlying weather data, yet no published test shows how accurate Bobara is at a particular address. Expect an area-level, weather-themed display whose details can diverge from your immediate surroundings, especially for brief or localized events.
