Cross-play and cross-progression are separate features. Cross-play lets you join friends using another supported platform. Cross-progression lets the same Embark account retain its game state when you move between linked platforms. You need the correct account connection for both features to work as intended.

How cross-play works on PS5
ARC Raiders is designed for social play across PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Embark says an Embark ID “allows cross-platform play with friends on any supported system,” and the official ARC Raiders site describes “seamless social play across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.” In practical terms, a PS5 player can squad with friends who are playing on supported Xbox consoles or PC storefronts.
The account connection is the important part. Cross-play is not based merely on owning the game on two devices or using the same email address at a storefront. Your PS5 account must be associated with an Embark ID, and the friends or other platforms you want to use must also be operating through their own supported Embark account connections.

Embark’s published wording refers to “supported” systems. That qualification matters: the sources establish PlayStation, Xbox and PC social play, but they do not list every regional edition, account restriction or future platform change. If a friend cannot join, first verify that both accounts are connected correctly and that each person is using a currently supported platform version.
How cross-progression works
Cross-progression means your game identity follows the Embark ID rather than staying locked to one console. Embark states that the ID enables cross-progression between Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Its account guidance also says the ID stores your gear, progress and cosmetics and allows you to switch between Steam, Epic, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S without losing progress.
Use one Embark ID consistently. Sign in with that same ID on PS5 and on the other platform you plan to use. When the accounts are correctly linked, the account-level data associated with the ID can be available when you change platforms. Creating separate Embark IDs defeats that continuity: owning the game on two platforms does not merge two independent Embark accounts.

Set up cross-play and cross-progression during the first PS5 launch
The cleanest setup is to establish the correct Embark ID before you begin playing. ARC Raiders presents the account choice at first launch.
- Start ARC Raiders on PS5. Wait for the account prompt to appear.
- Choose the appropriate option. Select Create New Account if you do not have an Embark ID. Select Link Existing Account if you already use one on Steam, Xbox or another supported platform.
- Sign in to the Embark account when prompted. Use the Embark ID that you intend to keep as your main account. Do not create a second ID simply because you are launching on a different device.
- Finish the account-linking flow. Confirm that the PS5 account is connected to the intended Embark ID before investing time in progression or purchases.
- Launch on your other platform with the same Embark ID. The account must be the same one used on PS5 for cross-progression to associate the data.
Embark’s account instructions describe the ID as the place where gear, progress and cosmetics are stored. The practical check is therefore the account identity, not whether the two devices share a console-network login or storefront email.
Add another platform after you have started
You can connect an additional account later through the Embark ID account site. Embark identifies the following navigation path:
- Sign in to your Embark ID account.
- Open the menu showing your account name.
- Choose Connected Platforms.
- Select the platform account you want to add and complete its sign-in or authorization steps.
- Repeat the process for each additional supported platform, always using the same Embark ID.
After linking, return to the game on the newly connected platform and verify that you are signed into the intended Embark account. If the account already has progress, check that the expected profile information and inventory appear before treating the transfer as complete.

Account-linking rules you need to know
One account per platform
Embark says one Embark ID can be linked to one account per platform, including Steam, PlayStation and Xbox. This prevents a single Embark ID from simultaneously attaching multiple PlayStation accounts or multiple Xbox accounts of the same platform type.
A platform account cannot remain attached to two Embark IDs
If your PlayStation, Steam or Xbox account is already connected to another Embark ID, you must unlink it there before connecting it to the ID you actually want to use. This is the most likely cause of a “platform already linked” message.
Unlinking is not the same as merging
The available guidance explains how to connect and disconnect platform accounts, but it does not promise that separate Embark IDs can be merged. Do not assume that unlinking one account will combine its progress, purchases or cosmetics with another profile. Decide which Embark ID is your primary account before moving connections.

Use the same ID everywhere
The simplest rule is consistency: the PS5 account and the PC or Xbox account must point to the same Embark ID. A shared email address, a shared console family account or ownership of the same game does not by itself establish cross-progression.
What follows you between platforms

PS5 online-play requirement
Sony’s PS5 product information states that PlayStation Plus is required for online play. Because ARC Raiders’ cross-play feature involves playing with other people online, a PS5 player should have the required PlayStation Plus access before attempting to join friends or online sessions.
This requirement is separate from your Embark ID. Linking accounts cannot replace the PlayStation network subscription requirement, and having PlayStation Plus does not automatically link your PS5 account to an Embark ID. You need both the platform’s online-access entitlement and the correct Embark account connection.

Choose the platform that suits your hardware and social group without assuming that your account data will be isolated there. Troubleshooting common setup problems
Your progress is missing on the second platform
- Confirm that both platform accounts are connected to the same Embark ID, not merely to accounts using the same email address.
- Open the Embark ID account menu and check Connected Platforms.
- If the second platform is attached to a different Embark ID, resolve that existing connection before linking it to your primary ID.
- Close and relaunch the game after correcting the account connection, then sign in again with the intended Embark ID.
The platform says it is already linked
Embark’s one-account-per-platform rule means the platform account is likely attached to another Embark ID. Sign in to that other ID, unlink the platform account if appropriate, and then connect it to the ID that contains the progress you intend to keep. Because the published guidance does not describe account merging, avoid creating another ID as a workaround.
You can see your account but cannot play online on PS5
Check the PlayStation Plus requirement first. An Embark ID controls cross-platform identity and progression; it does not provide the PlayStation network subscription needed for PS5 online play.
A friend on another system cannot join
- Confirm that the friend is on a supported PlayStation, Xbox or PC system.
- Verify that each player is signed into the expected Embark ID.
- Check that the PS5 player has PlayStation Plus for online access.
- Review the Connected Platforms page for an accidental link to a different account.
Pre-switch checklist
- Identify the Embark ID that contains your existing progress and cosmetics.
- On the Embark account page, open Connected Platforms.
- Make sure your PS5 account is linked to that ID.
- Link the Steam or Xbox Series X|S account you plan to use, observing the one-account-per-platform rule.
- Resolve any existing link to another Embark ID before attempting a new connection.
- On PS5, confirm that PlayStation Plus is active for online play.
