Its placement FAQ says, “Please note that placements are not guaranteed, and it is not an entitlement of the student.” XLRI does report very strong cohort-level placement and internship outcomes, but your result still depends on recruiter shortlisting, profile fit, interview and internship performance, role availability, market conditions and your own decisions.
What “100% placement” at XLRI actually means
XLRI’s corporate-relations material says the institute has been consistent for seven decades in achieving 100 percent placement for both summer internships and final campus recruitment. That is an institutional statement about reported cohort outcomes. It is not a contractual promise that every admitted student will receive a job, a particular role, a particular salary or an offer from a preferred employer.

The placement FAQ makes the legal and practical position explicit: “Please note that placements are not guaranteed, and it is not an entitlement of the student.” The same FAQ says XLRI’s approach is to build a career-service network through a robust alumni network rather than provide only a placement at the end of the course. It also says placement activity is significantly driven by students themselves.
Read the two statements together. XLRI can provide a large recruiter network, a placement committee, preparation and access to campus processes while still reserving the final hiring decision for each company. A high placement percentage therefore describes what happened to a defined cohort; it does not remove individual selection risk.

How XLRI’s placement process works
The official recruitment description shows several points at which an outcome can diverge from the headline placement percentage.
- Recruiters define roles. Companies send job descriptions and schedule recruitment with the placement committee.
- Companies shortlist applications. Recruiters review résumés using their own criteria. A student can be screened out before an interview.
- Selection takes place on campus. Recruiters conduct pre-placement talks and then run their own tests, group exercises, interviews or other selection stages.
- Accepted offers start later. Students who accept an offer generally join after the academic year, subject to the employer’s terms.
The timetable differs by process:
| Activity | Typical timing stated by XLRI | What it means for a student |
|---|---|---|
| Summer placements | October–November | First-year students compete for the mandatory summer internship. |
| Lateral placements | December–January | Students with prior work experience may be considered for senior or lateral roles when suitable vacancies exist. |
| Final placements | February | Recruiters hire for post-MBA positions after the academic year. |
Timing is not a guarantee of a role. Recruiter demand, eligibility rules, academic records, prior experience and the number of openings all affect who reaches each stage. XLRI specifically notes that lateral placements depend on vacancies in senior positions during the placement season.
Is the summer internship guaranteed, and does it become a PPO?
The 2026 admissions prospectus describes the Summer Internship Process as integral to the two-year PGDM (Business Management) and PGDM (Human Resource Management) curriculum. It is a mandatory eight-week internship at the end of the first year, intended to provide live organisational exposure and industry perspective.

An internship is not an automatic job conversion. The prospectus says internships are often followed by pre-placement offers (PPOs) or pre-placement interviews (PPIs) based on performance. “Often” and “based on performance” are important: a conversion depends on the intern’s work, the project, the employer’s hiring plan and the availability of a suitable post-MBA role.

What the 2025–27 internship figures show
XLRI Delhi-NCR reports the following results for the 2025–27 cohort:
| Measure | Reported result | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Participating students | 583 | Reported for the XLRI Delhi-NCR process. |
| Summer-internship offers | 584 | Offers from 114 organisations; this is a cohort result, not a future guarantee. |
| Average stipend | INR 1.6 lakh per month | Average reported for that cohort. |
| Median stipend | INR 1.55 lakh per month | Median reported for that cohort. |
| Highest stipend | INR 3.50 lakh per month | Highest reported figure, not a typical expectation. |
The 584 offers for 583 participants should not be read as “every future student receives an offer” or as evidence that one student can claim multiple offers. Placement reporting can count offers rather than unique people, and the figures are specific to the stated cohort and campus.
What the latest final-placement report says
XLRI’s final placement report for the 2023–25 PGDM (BM) and PGDM (HRM) batch, issued in 2026, records outcomes across Jamshedpur and Delhi-NCR.
| Measure | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Students participating | 591 |
| Recruiting entities | 172 |
| Domestic offers | More than 600 |
| International offers | 2 |
| Pre-placement offers | 34.17% of the cohort |
| Median salary | INR 29 lakh per annum |
| Average salary | INR 31.08 lakh per annum |
| Highest domestic offer | INR 75 lakh per annum |
| Highest international offer | INR 1.10 crore per annum |
Consulting, banking and financial services (BFSI), and sales and marketing were identified as leading role domains. The report lists recruiters such as Accenture Strategy, American Express, Bajaj Auto, Boston Consulting Group, EY-Parthenon, HUL, ITC, Kotak Mahindra Bank, PwC India, Reliance and Vector Consulting. These names show the breadth of employers represented in that batch; they do not mean that every student was eligible for, shortlisted by or offered a role at each organisation.

- [Dont Hesite to Order] 24 hours customer services and professional technology team are standing by
The median is usually more useful than the highest offer for planning. Half of the reported salaries were at or below INR 29 lakh per annum and half at or above it, while the average of INR 31.08 lakh is pulled upward by higher salaries. The INR 75 lakh domestic and INR 1.10 crore international figures are maxima, not expected outcomes. Compensation also varies by function, campus, prior experience, location, joining date and the student’s willingness to accept a particular role.
Why one student’s result can differ from the cohort record
Recruiter shortlisting
Companies, not XLRI, decide who advances. Eligibility may include academic marks, school and undergraduate background, work history, test scores, language skills, sector experience or other criteria. A strong institute-wide percentage cannot prevent a company from rejecting an application before an interview.
Profile and academic performance
Students compete for roles across different functions. A candidate seeking consulting may face a different shortlist from one targeting human resources, product roles or sales. Academic performance, interview preparation, demonstrated skills and the relevance of previous work can materially change the set of roles available.

A high-quality internship project can lead to a PPO or PPI, but the employer must also have a post-MBA vacancy. Conversion is therefore both performance-dependent and demand-dependent. A student who does not receive a PPO can still enter final placements, but does not have the security of an early offer.

Market conditions and vacancies
Economic cycles affect the number of recruiters, job descriptions, locations and compensation levels. XLRI’s own FAQ highlights vacancy dependence for lateral placements. A weak hiring market can reduce opportunities even when the school’s historical record is strong.
Salary and role dispersion
Average, median and highest figures compress a wide distribution into three numbers. They do not show how many offers were in each function, how many required relocation, how many were fixed pay versus variable compensation, or how many students declined offers. Ask for the detailed placement methodology before treating a headline salary as a personal forecast.
Student agency
Because XLRI describes placement activity as significantly student-driven, preparation and choices matter. Résumé quality, networking, interview practice, applications to suitable roles and a realistic location or function preference can influence the outcome. Students also decide whether to accept an offer; a placement percentage may not capture every person’s preferred job.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteAre XLRI’s placement statistics audited and batch-specific?
The final-placement figures above are explicitly identified as the 2023–25 BM and HRM batch and cover 591 participating students across two campuses. The internship figures are identified for the 2025–27 XLRI Delhi-NCR cohort. That makes them batch-specific rather than timeless claims.
Best Value
The supplied official materials establish that these are XLRI-reported results. They do not establish an independent audit of every figure. When comparing schools, ask whether the numbers have external verification and request definitions for “participating student,” “offer,” “placed,” “salary,” “international offer” and “accepted offer.” Also ask whether students who opted out, pursued entrepreneurship, continued education or found jobs independently are included in the denominator.
What an XLRI MBA loan applicant should model
A strong placement record does not eliminate repayment risk. Before borrowing, calculate the amount you must repay under a conservative outcome rather than using the highest salary.
- Calculate total borrowing. Include tuition, accommodation, living expenses, fees and interest accrued during study, then subtract savings or scholarships.
- Use a realistic salary case. Start with the reported median as a reference point, then reduce it for taxes, employee benefits that are not cash salary, relocation costs and a possible job-search period.
- Stress-test the downside. Model delayed joining, a lower-paying role, no PPO and a period between graduation and employment. Do not assume the maximum offer.
- Check the repayment schedule. Compare the monthly instalment with expected take-home pay, rent, family obligations and an emergency reserve. Include the possibility that the interest rate changes if the loan is floating.
- Set a decision threshold. Decide in advance what salary, function or location would make the debt acceptable, and what alternative you would choose if those conditions are unavailable.
Do not confuse a reported campus average with guaranteed cash available for repayment. Compensation can include variable pay, joining bonuses or benefits with different payment schedules. Confirm the structure of any offer and the lender’s terms before committing.

Use identical definitions and the same graduating-year window for every school. A useful comparison looks like this:
| Comparison axis | Questions to ask |
|---|---|
| Placement coverage | Does the percentage include all students, only those seeking placement, or only accepted on-campus offers? |
| Batch and recruiter scale | How many students participated, how many recruiters hired and were both campuses or programs included? |
| Salary distribution | What are median and average salaries, and are fixed, variable and one-time components separated? |
| Internship structure | Is the internship mandatory, how long is it, and what proportion receives a PPO or PPI? |
| Role mix | Which functions and locations account for most offers, and do they match your target career? |
| Eligibility | Are the reported outcomes for your program, campus, academic background and work-experience category? |
| Policy language | Does the school expressly disclaim a placement entitlement, and who controls shortlisting? |
| Cost and risk | What is the full cost of attendance, and does a conservative salary case support the borrowing? |
A decision checklist before accepting an XLRI offer
- Read the current placement FAQ and prospectus, not only a presentation headline.
- Confirm whether the published percentage applies to your exact program, campus and graduating batch.
- Request the latest median salary, participation denominator and role-wise distribution.
- Ask how many internship offers became PPOs or PPIs and what conditions applied.
- Identify the academic, work-experience and skill filters commonly used by your target recruiters.
- Estimate your outcome if you receive neither a PPO nor your preferred final-placement role.
- Compare the total loan repayment with a conservative, after-tax income scenario.
- Decide whether you would still enrol if the best-known recruiter or highest salary were unavailable.
XLRI’s record supports confidence in its recruitment infrastructure, not certainty about an individual result. The appropriate question is not “Will XLRI give me a job?” but “Given my profile, target function, finances and tolerance for uncertainty, does XLRI’s placement ecosystem justify the cost and risk?”
