A stick marketed for Xbox One may physically connect to an Xbox console, but the game’s published platform list for ACE COMBAT 8 names Xbox Series X|S rather than Xbox One. Likewise, the PlayStation-compatible NEO model carries PS4, PS5, and PC labels, while the game itself is listed for PS5 on consoles.

The clearest officially documented compatibility is Thrustmaster’s T.FLIGHT HOTAS NEO Ace Combat 8 Edition. Thrustmaster provides a native mapping page titled “Mapping – Ace Combat 8 – PC & PS5 – T.Flight Hotas NEO – Native Mapping,” which documents the PC and PlayStation 5 setup.

What “supports HOTAS” means here
For the NEO, support means the manufacturer has created an Ace Combat 8-specific native mapping and licensed console variants for the relevant platform families. It is stronger evidence than a generic USB flight stick merely being recognized by a computer.
It does not establish that every HOTAS, joystick, throttle quadrant, rudder pedal set, or adapter will work. The official material reviewed does not provide a universal compatibility list for third-party devices. A generic HOTAS may function on PC, but that possibility should not be treated as guaranteed support on Steam, PS5, or Xbox.

How to choose the correct HOTAS version
- Identify where you will play. Select the PlayStation/PC model if you need PS5 compatibility, or the Xbox/PC model if you need Xbox Series X|S compatibility.
- Check the platform marking on the exact product box. The two NEO variants are not interchangeable console models merely because both can also be used on PC.
- Confirm the game mapping information. For PS5 and PC, look for Thrustmaster’s Ace Combat 8 native-mapping documentation. For Xbox, confirm that the listing is the Xbox-licensed edition.
- Connect the device before configuring controls. After connection, use ACE COMBAT 8’s control settings to verify that the stick and throttle inputs are detected and that the expected bindings are active.
- Test essential functions before multiplayer. Check pitch, roll, yaw, throttle, weapon selection, target controls, and camera inputs in a safe game session before joining friends.
Exact control-menu labels can vary by platform and software revision. If a button does not behave as expected, inspect the in-game binding screen rather than assuming the hardware is defective.
Does ACE COMBAT 8 have multiplayer?
Yes. The multiplayer component is called ACE COMBAT ONLINE. Bandai Namco describes it as a multiplayer-only mode with progression and save data separate from Campaign Mode.
This separation has two practical consequences. First, progress earned online is tracked independently rather than being presented as the same progression path as the single-player campaign. Second, a campaign save should not be assumed to carry over into ACE COMBAT ONLINE, or vice versa.

Is ACE COMBAT 8 cross-play between PS5, Xbox, and PC?
Yes. The multiplayer FAQ states that ACE COMBAT 8 has full cross-platform support. That means PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam players can participate in the supported online activities together, rather than being restricted to separate platform pools.

How to play with friends on another platform
- Use the same game release family. Your group should be playing ACE COMBAT 8 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or Steam, the platforms named by the publisher.
- Enter ACE COMBAT ONLINE. Cross-play applies to the dedicated multiplayer mode, not to an assumed campaign multiplayer feature.
- Use the game’s current multiplayer invite or matchmaking flow. The available sources confirm cross-platform support and the included activities, but do not publish a universal button-by-button invitation path.
- Select a supported activity. Co-Op Assault, Co-Op Warfare, special missions, and limited-time PvP or PvE events are the modes identified by the publisher.
- Confirm each player’s online progress separately. ACE COMBAT ONLINE uses progression and save data separate from Campaign Mode, so changing modes does not merge the two progression tracks.
If a friend cannot join, first verify that everyone is in ACE COMBAT ONLINE and using one of the three listed platforms. Then check the game’s current online status, account permissions, and platform-specific networking prompts. Buying the wrong console variant
The NEO name appears on both PlayStation/PC and Xbox/PC products. The console licensing is different, so match the hardware variant to the console family you actually own. Both variants can be used on PC, but that does not make them interchangeable on PS5 and Xbox.
Assuming every flight stick is officially supported
Native mapping is documented for the NEO Ace Combat 8 Edition. No equivalent official confirmation is provided for every other HOTAS model. Avoid describing an unlisted stick as “fully supported” unless the manufacturer or publisher has published device-specific confirmation.

Confusing PC recognition with console compatibility
A HOTAS that appears as an input device on Windows is not automatically licensed or supported on PS5 or Xbox. Console compatibility depends on the exact model and platform variant, not only on the presence of USB connectivity.
Expecting campaign and online progress to merge
ACE COMBAT ONLINE has its own progression and save data. Keep that separate from expectations about Campaign Mode unlocks or campaign saves.
Assuming cross-play covers every game feature
The documented promise concerns full cross-platform multiplayer support. It does not say that campaign saves, offline progress, or every non-multiplayer feature is synchronized between platforms.

What to verify before buying a HOTAS
- Exact model name: T.FLIGHT HOTAS NEO Ace Combat 8 Edition.
- Console family: PlayStation/PC or Xbox/PC.
- Platform wording on the manufacturer’s product page and packaging.
- Availability of the Ace Combat 8 native-mapping documentation for your platform.
- Whether you need console use, PC use, or both.
- Current price and stock, which can change and are not established here.
If you already own another HOTAS, check its manufacturer’s current compatibility statement before purchasing an adapter or assuming that the game will expose every axis and button. An adapter can change how a console sees a device, but it does not create official game support.
