The NFL treats practice participation and game status as separate things. For fantasy decisions, check the team’s game designation and final inactive list; for an injured-reserve roster move, check your platform’s label and your league’s eligibility rules.
What “rested” means on an NFL practice report
The NFL Injury Report Policy says a healthy veteran rested in practice should not receive an injury-based game designation such as Out, Doubtful, or Questionable. The team may report the player’s practice participation as Did Not Participate or Limited Participation and mark it “Not Injury Related.” Read the NFL Injury Report Policy.

That distinction matters: a practice report records participation during the week, while a game-status designation addresses whether the player is expected to participate in the game. One does not automatically determine the other.

Does the player count as unavailable for the game?
Not because of practice rest alone. NFL.com defines Questionable as uncertain to play, Doubtful as unlikely to participate, and Out as not playing. A player who is certain to play is not listed on the Game Status Report, even if he appeared on the practice report earlier in the week. NFL.com’s explanation of game-status designations.

The most useful game-day check is the team’s final inactive list. NFL fantasy support says teams designate players Inactive before kickoff when they are unable to play; an inactive player cannot score fantasy points in that game. A player can therefore be unavailable for a particular game without being injured—for example, if he is a healthy scratch. NFL fantasy support: Inactive players.
Does a healthy scratch qualify for a fantasy IR slot?
Not automatically. NFL game status and fantasy injured-slot eligibility are different decisions. Platforms may use NFL information differently, and league settings can further restrict who may occupy an injured slot. Do not assume that an Inactive label means injured or that it makes a player IR-eligible.

- Sleeper: Documents how player statuses transition across NFL weeks. Check its current status guidance and your league’s roster settings rather than relying on another platform’s behavior. Sleeper player statuses.
- CBS: Says leagues can choose which NFL injury statuses qualify for its injured roster slot; its support guidance also notes that without the listed restrictions, a player may be placed there even when healthy. CBS Sports: injured reserve slot eligibility.
These are platform-specific rules, not a universal fantasy-football standard. The app’s current player label, your league’s IR eligibility settings, and lineup-lock rules determine whether a roster move is allowed.
How to check a rested player before setting your lineup
- Read the practice report in context. Look for the participation entry and any “Not Injury Related” notation. Rest alone is not an injury designation under NFL policy.
- Check the team’s Game Status Report. If the player is listed Questionable, Doubtful, or Out, use that designation as the team’s stated game outlook—not the practice entry alone.
- Verify the final inactive list close to kickoff. If the player is Inactive, he cannot score fantasy points in that game, regardless of whether the reason is an injury or a healthy scratch.
- Check your fantasy app and league settings before an IR move. Confirm that the displayed designation qualifies and that the league’s roster and lineup-lock rules permit the transaction.
For a specific player’s status, use the report and inactive list for that game week. A general rule cannot establish whether a named player is currently injured, active, or eligible for your league’s IR slot.
