If you own the 2017 Nintendo Switch, do not buy the Switch 2 edition expecting it to run on your console. The Nintendo release is scheduled for March 18, 2027. Unless IO Interactive or Nintendo later announces an original-Switch version, you need Switch 2 to play the Nintendo edition.

The short answer for Switch owners
As of October 16, 2026, there is no officially announced original-Nintendo-Switch version of 007 First Light. The supported Nintendo hardware is Switch 2. The absence of the original Switch is consistent across three current official references: IO Interactive’s platform announcement, Nintendo’s store listing and the game’s player-support platform table.
- Original Nintendo Switch: not listed as a supported platform and no release date has been announced.
- Nintendo Switch 2: officially supported, with a scheduled release on March 18, 2027.
- Other announced platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
That makes the practical buying decision straightforward: an original-Switch owner needs Switch 2 hardware for the Nintendo version. The game is not a Nintendo-exclusive overall, because it is also announced for current PlayStation, Xbox and PC systems.

What the official platform lists actually say
IO Interactive’s announcement
IO Interactive’s June 4, 2025 announcement named PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store. It did not name the original Nintendo Switch. The wording matters because the announcement distinguishes Switch 2 as its own platform rather than describing the game simply as a Switch release.
The later Switch 2 date confirmation
In an October 14, 2026 update, IO Interactive stated: “007 First Light will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 18th, 2027.” The same update said pre-orders were open through Amazon.com and selected retailers. It did not add an original-Switch edition or provide a date for one.
Nintendo’s store listing
Nintendo’s current product page identifies the product as 007 First Light – Deluxe Edition, lists the system as Nintendo Switch 2, and gives March 18, 2027 as the release date. The listing also specifies TV, tabletop and handheld modes and estimates the game’s file size at 5.9 GB.
The support table
The official player-support table gives May 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and March 2027 for Nintendo Switch 2. It does not include the original Switch. Taken together, these are not signs of a delayed original-Switch listing; they are the current platform record for the game.

The table does not establish whether a physical package, a download code or any Deluxe Edition bonus items will be offered in every country. Those details can vary by market and should be checked on the retailer listing you use.
When the Nintendo version arrives
The Nintendo release follows the first launch on other announced platforms. The support information gives May 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Switch 2 is scheduled for March 18, 2027, making it the later platform release by the dates currently published.

- October 14, 2026: IO Interactive confirms the Switch 2 launch date and says pre-orders are open at Amazon.com and selected retailers.

Because the Switch 2 date is a scheduled date rather than a past release, availability can still change if the publisher or Nintendo announces a delay. The current date does not imply that an original-Switch port is planned; no such port is listed.
What this means if you own the original Switch
Do not treat the product name as a regular Switch release
Some Nintendo games use “Switch” as a broad family name in casual conversation, but this listing specifically says Nintendo Switch 2. That system designation is the important part of the purchase. A listing that says Switch 2 should not be interpreted as a title designed for the original console.

Do not assume backward compatibility
The official information available for 007 First Light does not say that the Switch 2 edition runs on the original Switch. It also does not promise that an original-Switch owner’s existing digital library, account entitlement or accessories will provide access to this game. Without an original-Switch SKU or an explicit compatibility statement, the safe assumption is that the original console is unsupported.
Choose another platform if you do not plan to upgrade
Players who do not intend to buy Switch 2 still have the announced PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions. Those versions have the earlier May 27, 2026 date in the support table. The official platform information does not establish cross-save, cross-buy or entitlement transfers between those systems and Switch 2, so do not purchase one platform expecting a second platform copy unless the publisher later confirms that feature.
What the Switch 2 listing tells you about playing the game
Three Switch 2 play modes
Nintendo lists TV, tabletop and handheld modes for the Switch 2 product. That means the supported Nintendo edition is designed for all three modes identified on the store page. The listing does not provide separate resolution, frame-rate or performance figures, so those specifications should not be inferred from the mode labels.
Storage planning
Nintendo’s current listing estimates the game file at 5.9 GB. Treat that as a store estimate, not a guaranteed final installed size: a launch update, saved data and later patches can require additional storage. If you plan to download the game, check available space before release and leave room for updates rather than budgeting exactly 5.9 GB.

Offline campaign after the initial update
The official support FAQ says: “A one-time internet connection is required to download the Day 1 patch. After that, the full main campaign of 007 First Light is playable offline.” In practical terms, you should connect the Switch 2 to the internet during setup, install the Day 1 patch, launch the game once and allow the update to finish before relying on offline play.
This statement applies to the full main campaign. It does not say that every possible online, account-based or post-launch feature works without an internet connection, so features beyond the campaign may have separate requirements.
How to buy the right version
- Check the system label. The product page or retailer listing should identify Nintendo Switch 2, not merely “Nintendo Switch.”
- Check the date. The official Switch 2 date is March 18, 2027. A listing with another date may be outdated, region-specific or incorrect.
- Check the edition name. Nintendo’s current listing is 007 First Light – Deluxe Edition. The available evidence does not specify the Deluxe Edition’s contents, so read the retailer’s description before paying for it.
- Confirm your hardware. An original Switch, Switch Lite or Switch OLED is not the system named in the official listing. You need Switch 2 for the Nintendo version unless a later announcement changes the platform support.
- Plan storage and setup. Allow more than the listed 5.9 GB if downloading, and arrange an internet connection for the Day 1 patch before attempting offline campaign play.
- Keep your receipt or order record. Since the Switch 2 release is scheduled for a future date, retain the retailer confirmation and check for any publisher or Nintendo date update before launch.
Could an original-Switch version still be announced?
It is possible for a publisher to add platforms later, but there is no evidence of that plan for 007 First Light at present. The June 2025 announcement, October 2026 date update, Nintendo listing and support table all point to Switch 2 as the Nintendo platform. None provides an original-Switch release window, technical explanation or pre-order listing.

For that reason, “not announced” should not be read as “secretly compatible” or “coming later.” The responsible buying assumption is Switch 2-only on Nintendo hardware until IO Interactive or Nintendo publishes a specific original-Switch announcement.

Bottom line for each type of buyer
You have an original Nintendo Switch and want to play on Nintendo hardware
Plan on buying Switch 2. The official Nintendo edition is scheduled for March 18, 2027, and the original console is not listed as supported.
You already own Switch 2
The Switch 2 Deluxe Edition is the Nintendo product currently listed, with TV, tabletop and handheld modes. Reserve storage beyond the estimated 5.9 GB and connect to the internet once for the Day 1 patch if you want to play the main campaign offline afterward.
You want to play before March 2027
The official support table places the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC versions on May 27, 2026. Those are the platforms with the earlier published launch date; the Nintendo version is the later Switch 2 release.
