Sometimes, but not automatically. Viewer location can affect the prices advertisers are willing to pay, because ad-market competition and targeting differ by geography. But “outside India” is not one market, and YouTube does not publish a universal India-versus-rest-of-world rate comparison. A viewer abroad does not necessarily generate more ad revenue than a viewer in India.
Why viewer location can change ad prices
Advertisers can target particular geographies, and competition for advertising differs from place to place. YouTube says that geographic variation affects CPMs. So a shift in your audience’s locations can change the prices associated with ads on your stream—but the effect depends on which locations your viewers are actually in and on whether ads are served to them.
That is a general explanation, not an official country-by-country rate card. YouTube’s public guidance does not establish a single CPM for India, a single CPM for all other countries, or a ranking that applies to every channel. YouTube’s explanation of ad revenue analytics describes geographic variation without giving an India-versus-other-countries live-stream comparison.
Why a higher CPM does not guarantee higher earnings
CPM and RPM measure different things. CPM is what advertisers pay per 1,000 ad impressions before YouTube’s revenue share. RPM is the creator’s revenue per 1,000 views after revenue share, and it combines multiple revenue sources rather than measuring ad prices alone. It is therefore not a clean way to answer whether one country’s viewers generate more from ads.

Why some viewers may not see an ad
A view does not automatically produce an ad impression. YouTube lists ad availability, advertiser targeting, viewer geography, recent ad exposure, and whether a viewer has Premium among factors that can affect ad delivery. For live streams, an eligible ad slot may also go unfilled: YouTube says its ad systems decide whether a slot receives an ad, and slots are not guaranteed to serve.

This means a location can matter in two different ways: it can affect advertiser demand and pricing, and it can affect whether an ad is available or eligible to show. Even a location with stronger advertiser competition will not make every view monetized. YouTube’s live-stream monetization guidance explains how ad delivery works for live content.
How live-stream ad settings fit into the picture
When monetization is enabled for a live stream, YouTube can use pre-roll, display, and mid-roll ads. Pre-roll and display ads are automatically enabled when monetization is turned on; mid-rolls can be automatic or manual. Automatic mid-roll frequency can be set to low, medium, or high. Viewers may receive ads at different times, and the system still determines whether an eligible slot serves.

What YouTube’s mid-roll result does—and does not—show
YouTube reported an average uplift of over 20% in in-stream ad revenue per hour among channels using live automatic mid-rolls compared with channels not using them. YouTube described this as an average across 207 countries in January 2024. It is a platform-reported comparison, not a promise for an individual stream, and it does not show that viewers outside India pay more than viewers in India.
Automatic mid-rolls may be worth considering as a delivery setting, but do not treat the reported average as a forecast for your channel. The result concerns the use of live automatic mid-rolls, not a country-specific rate comparison. YouTube’s live monetization guidance covers the available ad formats and settings.

How to compare your own Indian and international audience
- In YouTube Analytics, select the Live filter to focus on live streams and live replays. YouTube says ad revenue for those formats is available with this filter.
- Compare like with like: use comparable date ranges and similar types of streams, rather than comparing a high-traffic event with an ordinary week.
- Where Analytics provides a location breakdown, examine ad revenue alongside monetized playbacks and ad impressions. Those measures help distinguish a difference in ad delivery from a difference in advertiser pricing.
- Keep CPM and RPM separate. Use CPM to understand advertiser cost per ad impression and RPM for overall creator revenue per 1,000 views; do not treat RPM as a country-level ad rate.
YouTube identifies the Live filter as the place to view revenue from live streams and live replays. Its analytics guidance explains the revenue measures to interpret; the result for any one channel depends on its audience and actual ad delivery.
What can be concluded about viewers outside India?
- Geography can affect CPM because advertiser targeting and competition vary by location.
- “Outside India” combines many distinct advertising markets, not one comparable audience group.
- The available YouTube guidance does not publish a numeric India-versus-other-country live-stream rate comparison.
- Ad serving, audience composition, and live ad settings also affect realized revenue, so geography alone cannot predict earnings.
