Usually, no. A One UI update does not automatically mean you must remove and reinstall every Good Lock module. Samsung says Good Lock and its modules are updated separately through Galaxy Store. Check for those updates first, restart the phone, and reinstall only the particular module that still fails after cache troubleshooting.
Why a One UI update does not normally require a full Good Lock reinstall
Good Lock is a collection of Samsung customization tools rather than a single feature built entirely into One UI. The main One UI package updates the phone’s operating system, while Good Lock and its plug-in modules are distributed and maintained separately through Galaxy Store. Samsung Community Manager guidance published on May 14, 2026, describes the modules as being updated separately from the main system update and warns that temporary compatibility problems can appear until those module updates are released.

That separation explains why a newly updated phone can briefly show a broken Home-screen action, missing setting, or unresponsive customization control. The system update may arrive before the corresponding module update. It does not, by itself, prove that the module installation is damaged or that every module must be installed again.

What to do immediately after a stable One UI update
Use this sequence on a normal, non-beta release. The labels can vary slightly by Galaxy model, carrier, region, or software version, but the order is the important part.
- Open Galaxy Store. Sign in to the Samsung account used for your Galaxy Store downloads if the store requests it.
- Check the store’s updates list. Look for an update to Good Lock itself and for updates to every Good Lock module you use. Do not check only the Good Lock launcher; an individual module may receive its own compatibility release.
- Install all relevant updates that are offered. Keep the phone connected to a reliable network and allow each module to finish installing before opening it. The Galaxy Store listing for Good Lock records module and plug-in update history, so the store is the authoritative place to see whether a release is available for your device.
- Restart the phone. Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance specifically places a restart after the available Good Lock and module updates. This gives One UI and the plug-ins a clean opportunity to load their new components.
- Test the affected function. Open Good Lock, enter the module that was misbehaving, and try the exact Home-screen or customization action that failed. Test one module at a time so you can identify the component that still has a problem.
If the module works after these steps, there is no reason to reinstall it. Keep the existing installation and continue using it.
If one module still does not work
When the problem remains after Galaxy Store updates and a restart, work on the affected module rather than deleting Good Lock and every plug-in. The following procedure is the next level of troubleshooting.

Clear the module’s cache
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apps.
- Select Good Lock or the specific module that is failing.
- Tap Storage.
- Choose Clear cache.
- Open the module again and repeat the failed action.
Clearing a cache removes temporary files; it is less disruptive than removing the application. The exact screen names can differ by One UI release, and a module may be listed by its own name rather than under the Good Lock heading. If you cannot find the module, use the Apps screen’s search field.
Do not select Clear data as a substitute unless you understand the consequences. The available Samsung guidance does not promise that Good Lock settings are always preserved after clearing data or reinstalling. Treat either action as potentially resetting that module’s local configuration and make a note of important settings before proceeding.
Reinstall only the affected module
If clearing the cache does not help, return to Galaxy Store and reinstall the module that is still failing. This is a fallback, not a routine step after every One UI update. Updating or reinstalling one plug-in also makes the cause easier to identify than removing the entire Good Lock installation.

After the reinstall finishes, restart the phone once more and test the module before changing several other settings. If the module has an in-app setup screen, review it carefully; a reinstall may require you to enable or configure options again, and Samsung does not state that every personal configuration survives the process.

Beta software requires a different expectation. Samsung’s One UI Beta Team said in a May 2026 One UI 9 beta discussion that some Good Lock modules and related customization features may not function normally during the beta period because compatibility updates are still required for the new One UI version.
In that situation, reinstalling a module cannot guarantee a fix. The missing compatibility code may simply not have been published yet. You should still check Galaxy Store for Good Lock and module updates, restart the phone, and clear the affected module’s cache, but regard a temporary limitation as a plausible explanation when the phone is running beta firmware.

For an unresolved beta problem, Samsung directs users to report it through the Samsung Members app. Include the phone model, One UI build, module name, and the action that fails. Mention whether the issue began immediately after the beta update and whether Galaxy Store showed any module updates. That information helps distinguish a local installation problem from a system-wide beta incompatibility.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.A concrete example: Lock Star and Adaptive Clock
Samsung’s support documentation for the Adaptive Clock, also called Stretch Clock, illustrates why checking individual module versions matters. For an Android 16 / One UI 8 issue, Samsung identified an outdated Lock Star version as a possible cause of the Adaptive Clock problem and pointed to a newer Lock Star release as the fix.
This example does not mean every Good Lock failure has the same cause, and it is not a guarantee that a Lock Star update will resolve unrelated problems. It does show the correct diagnostic pattern: identify the feature that fails, find the Good Lock module responsible for that feature, and check that module for a targeted update before attempting a reinstall.

Decision table: update, cache, or reinstall?
| What you observe | First action | Next action | What to avoid |
|---|---|---|---|
| One UI updated and all Good Lock features still work | Do nothing beyond checking Galaxy Store for pending Good Lock updates | Install updates when offered and restart | Routine reinstallation of every module |
| A module or Home-screen action fails after the update | Update Good Lock and that module in Galaxy Store | Restart and test the same action | Assuming the module installation is corrupted |
| The same module fails after its update and a restart | Settings > Apps > module > Storage > Clear cache | Reinstall that affected module if the fault remains | Deleting unrelated modules first |
| The phone is running a One UI beta | Check for updates and restart | Report persistent problems in Samsung Members | Expecting a reinstall to overcome unavailable beta compatibility code |
What a reinstall can and cannot tell you
A reinstall replaces the module package currently on the phone. It can help when an installation is incomplete, a local file is damaged, or an update did not apply cleanly. It cannot create a compatibility update that Samsung has not released, and it cannot make a feature available when the beta or device software temporarily blocks it.
If only one Good Lock feature is broken, the scope of the failure is useful evidence. A Lock Star problem points you toward Lock Star; a failure limited to another module should be tested within that module. If several modules fail simultaneously immediately after a major One UI release, first look for pending Galaxy Store updates and Samsung’s compatibility notices instead of repeatedly reinstalling each plug-in.
Keep in mind that Samsung’s direct reinstall guidance comes from a response to a specific One UI 8.5 compatibility report. It is practical troubleshooting advice, not a universal promise covering every Galaxy model, module, stable release, carrier, or country. Samsung’s One UI upgrade information also notes that features and availability can vary by device, carrier, and network.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Before you remove anything
- Write down unusual layouts, gestures, edge-panel arrangements, or other settings you may need to recreate.
- Record the exact module name and the One UI build shown in Settings so you can describe the issue accurately.
- Check Galaxy Store again immediately before uninstalling; a compatibility update may have appeared since the system update completed.
- Reproduce the problem after a restart, because a one-time launch failure is different from a consistent incompatibility.
- Reinstall the smallest possible unit: the module that fails, not every Good Lock component.
When waiting is the correct response
Major One UI releases can be followed by a short period in which module updates arrive at different times. Samsung explicitly warns that temporary compatibility issues may occur until those releases are available. If Galaxy Store shows no update, the module fails consistently, and the phone is otherwise stable, repeated cache clearing and reinstalling are unlikely to add information. Check the store periodically and monitor Samsung’s support or Members channels for a compatibility announcement.
On a beta build, waiting is even more likely to be necessary because Samsung has already stated that some customization features may be unavailable while developers prepare compatibility updates. Use Samsung Members to report the fault, and consider whether the affected customization is important enough to justify remaining on beta software.
Bottom line
Do not reinstall all Good Lock modules simply because One UI updated. Update Good Lock and each installed module in Galaxy Store, restart the phone, clear the cache of the module that still fails, and reinstall only that module if the problem persists. Treat beta firmware and the period immediately after a major release as compatibility windows in which a fix may need to come from a future module update rather than from another reinstall.
