Yes. You need to own Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds on the platform where you plan to play. The Avatar Legends Pack is add-on content, not a standalone game; Nintendo’s US listing explicitly says the base software is required and sold separately.
What you need to play the Avatar Legends Pack
First, own Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for your platform. Then obtain the Avatar Legends Pack for that platform when it is available in its storefront, either on its own or through the Season Pass. Buying the pack does not include the base game.

Ways to get the Avatar content
| Option | What it includes | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|
| Avatar Legends Pack | The Avatar collaboration content listed by SEGA as Wave 6 | Buy separately when listed for your platform; the base game is still required. |
| Season Pass | Multiple waves of DLC, including the Avatar Legends Pack listed as Wave 6 | SEGA says the Season Pass and collaboration DLC will be available separately. Check the current platform-store listing for what is included and its availability. |
| Digital Deluxe Edition | The base game and Season Pass, according to SEGA | May be an option if you do not own the game, subject to platform and regional availability. |
| Standard Edition | The base game, according to SEGA | Does not itself provide the Avatar add-on; obtain the pack or applicable Season Pass separately. |
SEGA’s purchase guide lists Aang and Katara as racers, Gliding Air as their machine, and Lion Turtle Island as the course. SEGA notes that DLC content and release dates may change, so check the platform storefront for the current lineup and release status. See SEGA’s purchase guide.

Check platform and edition before buying
The game launched on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Epic Games Store. SEGA’s announcements give September 25, 2025 as the console and Switch release date and September 26, 2025 for PC. Availability of an edition or DLC can vary by platform and region, so confirm that both the game and add-on are for the same platform before purchase. The reviewed sources do not establish that a license transfers between platforms.
SEGA’s launch announcements describe Digital Deluxe as including the base game and Season Pass. SEGA’s June 9, 2025 announcement and September 25, 2025 launch announcement provide platform and release details; current storefront listings are the place to verify what is offered in your region.

Which purchase makes sense?
- You already own the game: Get the Avatar Legends Pack separately if your platform lists it, or choose the Season Pass if you want its other included DLC as well.
- You do not own the game: Buy the base game or an edition that includes it, then make sure your chosen edition or separate add-on provides the Avatar content.
