No—not to make a SimpliSafe alarm sound. The system can operate as a siren without a paid plan, but SimpliSafe says it cannot request emergency dispatch or call you about a break-in without monitoring. Professional monitoring is for people who want a monitoring center to try to reach them and request help if they cannot be reached. Lower-cost dispatch and self-monitoring options mean the choice is not limited to a full professional plan or no subscription.
What SimpliSafe monitoring plans cost
SimpliSafe’s official listings show three professional home plans, plus lower-cost options on its plan-selection page. These are vendor-listed rates accessed in 2026; confirm the price, features, and eligibility shown for your account at checkout.

What professional monitoring does when an alarm goes off
SimpliSafe says its monitoring agents are available around the clock to request dispatch for break-ins, fire, or medical emergencies. An alarm does not mean police are automatically dispatched: agents first try to contact you by alarm text and phone call. If they cannot reach you, they process the alarm as a real emergency and contact 911 centers to request police dispatch.

When you need professional monitoring—and when you may not
Choose professional monitoring if you want a staffed response
A professional plan is the relevant option if you want agents to try to contact you and request emergency dispatch when you cannot be reached. SimpliSafe says monitoring covers break-in, fire, and medical alarms; make sure your chosen sensors support the events you care about and check any local alarm-permit requirements.

Consider self-monitoring or no plan if you will handle alerts
If you are willing to respond to alerts yourself and do not need SimpliSafe to request dispatch, compare the self-monitoring option with leaving the system unsubscribed. No-plan operation still provides a siren, but it does not provide SimpliSafe’s dispatch request or break-in alert call.

Video verification and cloud recordings depend on the plan and compatible equipment; do not assume every professional tier includes the same camera services. SimpliSafe says agents can relay video evidence to emergency dispatch, which it says can result in faster police response than unverified SimpliSafe alarms. That is the company’s comparison, not a guaranteed response time or assurance that police will arrive faster in every case.

What Pro and Pro Plus add outdoors
Pro includes Active Guard Outdoor Protection from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. local time; Pro Plus extends that coverage to 24 hours a day. SimpliSafe describes Active Guard as AI-assisted detection followed by live agent review and possible engagement through compatible cameras.
The service requires compatible hardware: SimpliSafe identifies Outdoor Camera Series 2 and Video Doorbell Series 2, with up to three of those devices usable in any combination. The Outdoor Camera must stay connected to its included power cable for Active Guard to work; the Video Doorbell Series 2 uses existing wired power. SimpliSafe advertises a one-month free trial for professional plans and says plans are billed monthly, with no long-term contract or cancellation fee. Verify the offer and its terms at signup, since promotions and eligibility can vary. SimpliSafe states that monitoring subscribers can cancel at any time on its professional monitoring page.

How to choose a plan
- Decide who should act on alarms. Choose professional monitoring if you want an agent to attempt contact and request dispatch if you cannot be reached; otherwise compare self-monitoring and siren-only operation.
- Identify the events you want covered. SimpliSafe describes professional handling for break-in, fire, and medical alarms. Check that you have the relevant sensors and account for local permit rules.
- Check recording and verification eligibility. Confirm the exact plan and camera requirements for video verification or cloud recordings instead of assuming they come with every tier.
- Decide whether outdoor coverage is worth the hardware constraints. Compare Pro’s overnight hours with Pro Plus’s all-day coverage, and account for compatible cameras and their power or wiring requirements.
- Compare the recurring cost with the response you want. Use the monthly list prices and daily rates as vendor-listed figures, then verify your actual checkout price, billing terms, and promotions.
