The official MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls FAQ, updated August 18, 2026, says that PS5 players need a PlayStation Plus account and an internet connection for the Online Lobby, Room Matches (Private Rooms), Ranked Matches, Casual Matches, Player Profile, and other online features. The requirement applies to online play generally—not just ranked competition.

That means you should expect to need PS Plus if you want to find opponents online, play a private match with someone over the internet, or use the game’s online lobby and profile features. The FAQ names both competitive and casual formats, so choosing Casual instead of Ranked does not remove the subscription requirement. Nor does a private room avoid it: Room Matches are expressly included among the features requiring PS Plus.

The FAQ also includes the broader phrase “and other online features.” In practical terms, its examples are not a limited list of the only features that may require the account. If a feature in the PS5 version connects you to other players or uses the game’s online services, do not assume it is exempt simply because it is not one of the named match types. The direct requirement is for PS5 online features; the precise feature names listed in the FAQ include Online Lobby, Room Matches (Private Rooms), Ranked Matches, Casual Matches, and Player Profile.
Owning the game, whether digitally or on disc, does not replace the subscription requirement. Buying the title gives you access to the game itself, but it does not provide a PlayStation Plus account or internet connection. A player intending to use the online modes should account for those separately.
Can you play without PS Plus?

The practical distinction is whether a feature needs a network connection to play with or interact with other people. A local Versus match, for example, is listed as offline content; an online Room Match is explicitly covered by the PS Plus requirement. Some modes may offer optional online elements, so access to those elements can still depend on the online requirements even when the mode can be played offline.
This distinction lets players separate “Can I launch and play some of the game?” from “Can I use its online services?” The answer to the first question is yes for the listed PS5 offline modes, without PS Plus. The answer to the second is no for PS5 online features unless you have the required subscription and an internet connection. A subscription is therefore not required simply to access every part of the game, but it is required for the online features described in the FAQ.

Local Versus is the clearest example of why the mode matters. A local match is within the offline content named by the FAQ; a Room Match is a private online feature and needs PS Plus on PS5. Similarly, training and character guides are named offline content, while Ranked and Casual matches are online features. If you are unsure which version of a feature you are selecting, check whether it is explicitly an online option rather than treating the mode’s name alone as proof that every part of it is available offline.
Arcadia Rumble has a useful qualification: it is playable offline, but it also has optional online features. Its offline availability does not mean that every online element attached to it is subscription-free on PS5. The FAQ’s general PS5 online requirement still applies when using online features. Players without PS Plus can use the offline content, but should not count on online extras being available.

The PC wording matters: the official FAQ identifies a PlayStation Account—not a PlayStation Plus subscription—as the account requirement for PC online features. It also says PC offline content can be played without a PlayStation Account. Do not transfer the PS5 subscription rule to PC; the FAQ describes separate platform requirements.
That does not mean PC online play is account-free. A PC player still needs a PlayStation Account and an internet connection for online features, according to the FAQ. The careful conclusion is that the PC requirement stated there is an account plus connectivity, while the PS5 requirement is a PlayStation Plus account plus connectivity. The FAQ does not say PC online play requires PS Plus, so the PS5 rule should not be presented as applying to PC.
Likewise, the FAQ’s no-account statement for PC applies to offline modes and content. It should not be read as a promise that PC online play works without an account: the FAQ expressly specifies a PlayStation Account for PC online features. In short, choose the platform row that matches where you will play, then choose the offline or online activity. Those two details determine which account and connection requirements matter.

Why do some pages say PS Plus is not required?
That statement applied to the open beta, not to the released game. PlayStation’s July 16, 2026 open-beta explainer said, “A PlayStation Plus subscription is not required.” The game’s later support FAQ, updated August 18, 2026, states that PS Plus is required for online features on PS5. Beta access rules and the released game’s requirements are different, so beta guidance should not be used to decide whether you can play online now.
The dates and context resolve the apparent contradiction. The beta statement described participation in the open beta. The support FAQ addresses the released game and distinguishes PS5 from PC. A page repeating the beta rule without identifying it as beta-specific can make it sound like an ongoing exemption, but it is not the rule stated for released PS5 online play.
If you are comparing old posts, beta announcements, or discussions with the current requirement, check what version and platform the statement refers to. “No PS Plus required” was true for the open beta according to PlayStation’s explainer; it does not cancel the later FAQ’s requirement for PS5 online features in the released game. Offline play remains a separate case and does not require PS Plus.
Does the game edition change the requirement?
No. The PS5 game is listed in digital editions on the PlayStation Store, and a physical Blu-ray disc edition is also listed by a retailer. The game format does not change the online rule: PS5 online features still require PS Plus and an internet connection. A disc purchase provides the game, not a PlayStation Plus subscription.
The US PlayStation Store listing observed October 12, 2026 showed the Standard Edition at $59.99. That is the displayed game price, not the cost of PS Plus and not an online-access fee. Because the listed price and storefront availability can change, treat $59.99 as a dated US Store observation rather than a guaranteed current price or a universal price across regions.
