The important condition is progression, not the payment method: the Festival Playlist becomes available after you qualify for the Horizon Festival and earn your first Wristband. Treasure Hunts are presented as Festival Playlist content, and the official launch information does not identify them as a Game Pass-only feature.

The entitlement rule
Forza Horizon 6 launched on May 19, 2026. Playground Games’ January 22, 2026 FAQ says members of Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass can play the game at no additional cost from launch day. The May 19 launch announcement likewise identifies the Standard Edition as included with those two plans.
That same launch announcement lists Standard, Deluxe and Premium as standalone editions. Buying one of those full-game editions gives you a route into the game without maintaining a Game Pass subscription. Playground Games’ launch materials therefore separate access to the game from the subscription used to obtain it: Game Pass is one route, not a special entitlement required for Treasure Hunts.

Playground Games’ January 22, 2026 FAQ and May 19, 2026 launch announcement do not define Treasure Hunts as a separate paid entitlement. They describe the Festival Playlist as the home for recurring events and challenges, then give a progression condition for making that playlist available. Nothing in those announcements says that a player must remain subscribed to Game Pass after buying the game.
When Treasure Hunts unlock
A new save does not necessarily show the entire Festival Playlist immediately. The launch announcement states:
“The Festival Playlist becomes available from the moment you’ve qualified for the Horizon Festival and earned your first Wristband.”

That sentence gives the clearest published requirement for recurring playlist challenges. It means a player who has just installed the game—whether through a subscription or a purchase—may need to complete the opening progression first.
What “qualified” means in practice
Start the introductory sequence and follow the game’s opening objectives until the game confirms that you have qualified for the Horizon Festival. Continue until you receive your first Wristband. Only then should you expect the Festival Playlist area, including any currently scheduled Treasure Hunt, to become available.
This is an in-game progression gate, not a Game Pass check. If the playlist is missing before that point, the absence is consistent with the published launch behavior and does not by itself indicate that your edition is wrong.

What Premium adds—and what it does not
Early access is the headline difference
Playground Games’ FAQ says Premium Upgrade provides access to the full game up to four days early. The Early Access announcement describes that upgrade as optional additional content for Game Pass members or for people who own Standard or Deluxe.
That timing benefit is separate from the Festival Playlist unlock. A player who enters during early access still has to reach the Horizon Festival and earn the first Wristband before the published playlist condition is met. Conversely, a player using Standard access does not need Premium Upgrade merely because a challenge is labeled a Treasure Hunt.
Additional cars are optional content
The Premium-related information also cites a Car Pass delivering 30 total cars. The game’s launch announcement advertises more than 550 cars overall. Those figures describe the size of the car offering and optional additions; neither figure is stated as a requirement for opening the Festival Playlist or solving a Treasure Hunt.

How to reach a Treasure Hunt after buying or subscribing
- Confirm that you have full-game access. Use an active Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass membership, or verify that your account owns a listed Standard, Deluxe or Premium edition. A Premium Upgrade is an add-on for Game Pass members or qualifying owners; it is not described as a replacement for the base game.
- Launch the account that holds the entitlement. If you bought the game or add-on on one account and are playing on another, the game may not recognize the expected access. Check the store account and the in-game account before treating a missing playlist as a Treasure Hunt restriction.
- Complete the opening progression. Follow the introductory objectives until you have qualified for the Horizon Festival and earned your first Wristband. This is the explicit playlist availability condition in the launch announcement.
- Return to the Festival Playlist. Once the Wristband requirement is complete, check the currently listed weekly events and challenges. A Treasure Hunt should be considered part of that scheduled playlist content rather than a menu available from the first minute of a new save.
- Read the individual event description. The January 22, 2026 FAQ and May 19, 2026 launch announcement explain the general playlist unlock but do not provide a Treasure Hunt-by-Treasure Hunt entitlement list. If an event card names an additional condition, follow that event-specific instruction instead of assuming that every hunt has identical rules.
- Recheck access if the playlist remains absent. Confirm that a Game Pass subscription is still active, that the purchased edition belongs to the signed-in account, and that the opening progression was completed on the current save. These checks distinguish an account or progression problem from an actual event limitation.
Buying the game versus keeping Game Pass
The choice is mainly financial and practical rather than a difference in Treasure Hunt eligibility.

If you already own a full-game edition, subscribing solely to unlock Treasure Hunts is not supported by the official descriptions. If you are deciding between buying and subscribing, weigh how long you expect to play, whether you want to keep access after a subscription ends, and whether the Premium additions matter to you.

The lack of a published platform matrix does not change the central rule: neither the January 22, 2026 FAQ nor the May 19, 2026 launch announcement describes Treasure Hunts as locked to Game Pass. It only means that platform-specific licensing should be verified in the store listing for your setup.
What is still unknown about individual Treasure Hunts
Playground Games’ January 22, 2026 FAQ and May 19, 2026 launch announcement establish the general Festival Playlist unlock, but they do not provide a complete hunt-by-hunt list of requirements. They also do not promise that every future Treasure Hunt will have exactly the same availability or that every event will appear at the same time on every platform.
That distinction matters for troubleshooting. If you have the Standard Edition, have earned the first Wristband and can open the Festival Playlist, a particular hunt could still have an event-specific objective or schedule. The January 22, 2026 FAQ and May 19, 2026 launch announcement do not support a blanket promise that every future hunt will be available under identical conditions.
For the information published through the May 19, 2026 launch announcement and the January 22, 2026 FAQ, the reliable test is straightforward: establish full-game access, complete the first-Wristband progression, then inspect the currently active Festival Playlist event. Game Pass status is only one way to establish the first of those conditions.
