Sometimes. Ordinary prescription glasses can fit under some XR glasses for a short trial, but frame clearance, eye position, prescription strength and optical alignment determine whether the result is usable. A model-specific prescription insert or the device’s supported diopter adjustment is usually the more stable solution.
Compatibility is not universal. Check the exact XR model and generation, compare your complete prescription with its published limits, and confirm whether astigmatism is supported before ordering.

Why there is no universal yes-or-no answer
XR glasses place displays, lenses and a nose bridge very close to your eyes. Your prescription frames must fit in that same space without touching the XR housing, shifting the display’s optical center or pushing the device away from the position in which it was designed to work.

Two people with the same prescription can have different results because frame width, lens thickness, bridge height, temple length and pupillary distance affect the fit. A pair that feels acceptable for a few minutes may create pressure, image cropping or misalignment during a longer session.

Manufacturers therefore use several different correction methods. Some permit a temporary under-glasses trial, some add rotary focus controls, and others sell a prescription frame or insert made for a specific product family. A prescription option for one model should never be assumed to fit another model from the same company.
Four ways to correct your vision with XR glasses

Can you wear regular prescription glasses under XR glasses?
Often, you can at least try. XREAL’s support guidance for the xbx a01+ says users may temporarily wear their regular eyeglasses to test clarity and the viewing experience. The same guidance warns that ordinary glasses can cause problems, so the trial should be treated as a check before buying—not proof that the combination will remain comfortable.
What to check during a temporary trial
- Clearance: Put on your prescription glasses normally, then place the XR glasses over them without forcing either frame. Look for contact between the lenses, bridge, nose pads and outer housing.
- Pressure: Check your nose, temples and ears after several minutes. Extra weight or two bridges sharing the same space can create pressure points even when the first fit feels fine.
- Image alignment: Make sure the entire intended image is visible. If one edge is cropped or the picture appears off-center, the frames may be holding the XR lenses at the wrong distance or angle.
- Clarity in both eyes: Read small text and view high-contrast edges. Blur, ghosting or a difference between the two eyes can indicate that the optical centers are not lining up with your pupils.
- Movement: Turn your head and look up and down. The XR glasses should remain stable rather than sliding on the prescription frame.
- Short-session comfort: Wear the combination long enough to expose pressure and heat issues, but do not treat a brief trial as evidence that it is suitable for every workday or gaming session.
Thick lenses, high prescriptions and large frames are more likely to reduce the available clearance. Even if the image looks acceptable, the outer glasses can hold the XR device farther from your face and change the field of view.

A built-in diopter mechanism changes focus inside the XR glasses. It can eliminate the need for an additional frame when your refractive error falls within the device’s stated range. It does not automatically reproduce a complete prescription.
Myopia limits are model-specific
VITURE lists 0.0D to -5.0D of myopia adjustment for its Pro, One and One Lite glasses. The adjustment is intended for the supported short-sightedness range; users outside it may need the company’s separate prescription frame.

For the Luma family, VITURE describes different limits by model: up to -6.0D for Luma XR and up to -4.0D for Luma Pro and Luma Ultra. Those figures belong to the named models and should not be transferred to another Luma version without checking its current product page.
Astigmatism is a common reason to choose an insert
VITURE states that built-in Luma adjustment does not support astigmatism. Its prescription frame is intended for Luma Pro, Luma Ultra and Luma XR. The company also describes a separate prescription frame for Pro, One and One Lite when stronger myopia or severe astigmatism requires custom lenses.
Read your prescription as a complete set of values. Sphere alone describes the basic near- or farsighted correction; cylinder and axis describe astigmatism. A dial that covers your sphere can still leave you with unusable vision if it cannot provide the cylinder and axis your eyes need.
Model-specific prescription options
XREAL xbx a01+
XREAL’s current prescription-lens instructions for the xbx a01+ list custom-lens support for nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. The stated per-eye ranges are 0 to -10.00 D for nearsightedness, 0 to +6.00 D for farsightedness and 0 to -4.00 D for astigmatism. These are limits for the xbx a01+ service, not a specification for XR glasses generally.
For farsightedness combined with astigmatism, XREAL says the combined prescription for each eye must remain within 0 to +6.00 D. The order requires sphere, cylinder and axis where applicable, along with pupillary distance. Use the values from your current prescription rather than estimating from an old pair of glasses.

XREAL recommends dedicated prescription lenses for better stability and viewing comfort. After installation, its instructions say to check that the image is clear and centered, that it is not noticeably cropped or misaligned, and that the glasses remain comfortable and stable. Its guidance characterizes dedicated accessories as a lighter, more precise and more comfortable correction approach than relying on ordinary glasses underneath.

VITURE lists one Prescription Lens Frame as compatible with the Pro, One and One Lite XR Glasses. The frame accepts custom lenses for prescriptions beyond the built-in myopia adjustment or for severe astigmatism. Do not assume this accessory fits the Luma or Beast families; those use different frames and compatibility statements.
VITURE Luma family
The Luma prescription frame is described as compatible with Luma Pro, Luma Ultra and Luma XR. The built-in adjustment limits differ among those models, and the built-in system does not correct astigmatism. Confirm the exact model name before ordering because a frame listed for one Luma version is not established as compatible with every other VITURE product.
VITURE Beast
VITURE describes a dedicated Beast prescription lens frame and says a prescription frame is included with the glasses. Custom prescription lenses can be ordered through official channels. This information is specific to Beast and does not establish compatibility with the company’s other frames.

- Sphere (SPH): the near- or farsighted correction for each eye.
- Cylinder (CYL) and axis: the amount and orientation of astigmatism correction, when prescribed.
- Pupillary distance (PD): the distance between pupils, sometimes supplied as one binocular value and sometimes as separate right- and left-eye measurements.
- Eye-specific values: right and left eyes can have different powers, so do not submit one number for both unless your prescription actually matches.
Compare every value with the exact product’s published limits. A prescription that falls inside the sphere range can still exceed a cylinder, axis or combined-power rule. If the manufacturer does not publish a limit for one part of your prescription, ask its support team or an optical provider rather than assuming acceptance.

Prescription-capable smart glasses are not interchangeable with display-focused XR glasses. They may include cameras, microphones, speakers or AI features while using conventional optical lenses, but they do not necessarily place a virtual screen in front of your eyes.
Ray-Ban’s prescription information lists a -6.00 to +4.00 total-power range. It says the manufacturer warranty remains intact only when prescription lenses are added through a certified retailer listed in its documentation, and that this certified-retailer option is currently available only in the United States and Canada.
On March 31, 2026, Meta announced Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics (Gen 2) as prescription-optimized AI glasses. The announcement gave US preorders from $499 and planned optical-retail availability from April 14. Those were announcement-era figures; confirm current price, stock and regional availability before relying on them.

Choose this category when your priority is everyday eyewear with smart features. Choose XR display glasses when you specifically need a private virtual screen, spatial content or a large floating monitor. The optical fitting, warranty and prescription rules can be entirely different.

Buying checklist
- Record the exact model and generation. Product-family names are not enough; inserts and diopter ranges can change between generations.
- Decide which correction method you want. Under-glasses wear is a temporary fit test, while built-in adjustment and custom inserts are designed solutions with different limits.
- Match the full prescription. Check sphere, cylinder, axis and PD, including any combined-power rule.
- Check astigmatism support explicitly. Do not infer it from a myopia dial or a general statement that the glasses support prescriptions.
- Confirm what the purchase includes. Some products provide only an empty frame and require a separate optical order; others include a frame that must be fitted with custom lenses.
- Verify regional and warranty conditions. Retailer qualification and warranty protection may depend on country.
- Buy through the documented channel. A generic insert can have the wrong attachment points, lens spacing or optical height even if its listing uses similar product words.
How to install and verify a prescription insert
- Check that the insert is labeled for your exact model and generation before opening the package.
- Have the prescribed lenses fitted to the frame using the submitted right-eye and left-eye values.
- Follow the manufacturer’s attachment direction; do not bend the XR frame or force the insert into place.
- Clean both optical surfaces and seat the insert fully so it cannot rock or sit at an angle.
- Put on the XR glasses and inspect text, straight lines and the edges of the display.
- Verify that each eye sees a centered image and that the picture is not clipped on one side.
- Move your head normally and confirm that the insert does not shift, rattle or touch the display lenses.
- Stop using the setup if you experience persistent blur, double vision, eye strain or pressure, and have the fit checked by the seller or an optician.
Troubleshooting common problems
The glasses fit but the image is blurry
First confirm that the prescription lenses are clean and installed in the correct orientation. Then check the device’s diopter controls, if present, and make sure they are set equally for the intended correction. If only one eye is clear, incorrect PD, an omitted cylinder value or a lens made for the wrong eye is possible.
The image is cropped or off-center
Look for an insert that is not fully seated, a bridge that is holding the XR glasses too far away, or ordinary frames that are pushing the device upward or downward. Repositioning may help with a temporary trial, but persistent cropping usually calls for the model’s dedicated insert or a different frame shape.
The setup creates nose or temple pressure
Remove the outer device and inspect where the two frames touch. Pressure that returns quickly is a fit problem, not something to solve by tightening the temples. A slimmer prescription frame or a dedicated insert can free the clearance that two complete frames consume.
The prescription is outside the stated range
Do not stack additional lenses or guess at a diopter setting. Ask whether the manufacturer offers a custom frame for your full prescription. If no compatible option is documented, an optician can tell you whether the device’s geometry is suitable before you buy.
How to make the decision
- Choose an under-glasses trial when you already own suitable frames and only need to establish whether the physical fit and image position are acceptable.
- Choose built-in adjustment when your exact model covers your sphere and you do not need unsupported cylinder correction.
- Choose a prescription insert when you need astigmatism correction, stronger power, better stability or a cleaner long-session fit.
- Choose prescription smart glasses when you want ordinary daily eyewear with smart functions rather than a display-focused XR experience.
The safest purchase is the one matched to your exact model, complete prescription and intended wearing time. Treat manufacturer ranges as model-specific specifications, and verify them again if the product page or your prescription changes.
