Yes. If you completed a purchase of an Xbox digital game, it remains associated with the Microsoft account that bought it after the sale ends. The sale’s end changes the price offer for future buyers; it does not, by itself, revoke your completed purchase. Microsoft’s documentation describes purchases and redemptions as creating entitlements that track a customer’s right to access digital products. Microsoft Learn explains the entitlement model.
What happens when you buy a game on sale?
A completed purchase gives the purchasing account an entitlement to the game. Microsoft describes an entitlement as a customer’s right to access and use a digital product, and says Microsoft Store purchases and redemptions create entitlements tracked by its collections service. The promotional price ending does not undo that entitlement.

So if you bought the game outright while it was discounted, you do not need to buy it again at the regular price just because the sale is over. This applies to an individual purchase or a completed redemption, not access provided only through a subscription.
Where is the game, and which account owns it?
The purchase is associated with the Microsoft account used to buy or redeem the game. If it is missing from your library, first make sure you are signed into that account. A different account on the same console does not become the purchaser just because it can access the game there.

Does subscription access count as owning the game?
No. A game available through a subscription is a separate access path from an outright purchase. Microsoft’s entitlement model includes subscription-enabled content, but that does not mean the subscriber has bought the game. If subscription access ends, do not assume you can continue playing unless you also purchased the game separately; the applicable plan and catalog terms determine subscription availability.
Can someone else play a game you bought?
Xbox sharing can provide access without transferring the buyer’s entitlement. Other users on the purchaser’s Home Xbox can access eligible digital games under the Home console sharing model. On a different console, roaming access depends on the purchaser being signed in and online; if the purchaser signs out, other users cannot continue using that roaming license.

When can access be removed or a game fail to launch?
A refund was processed
A refund is different from a sale ending. Microsoft’s refund documentation says refunds for games and durable content revoke licenses and entitlements. Eligibility and processing can vary, so consult Microsoft’s refund and chargeback documentation for the relevant details.

An account entitlement and a device license are related but distinct. Microsoft describes a license as a digital key confirming the user’s right to access content on a device. Sign-in, internet connectivity, device limits, concurrent use, and offline licensing conditions can affect whether a game launches on a particular console even when the purchasing account has the entitlement. For troubleshooting, check the purchasing account first, then connection and sign-in, the Home Xbox setting if sharing is involved, and the device’s licensing conditions.
