Not necessarily. A thinner phone has less room for a battery, but thickness alone cannot tell you how long it will last. Battery design, screen and processor power use, software, signal strength, and your workload all affect runtime. Before buying, compare independent tests run under similar conditions, then check charging speed, included accessories, and whether you are willing to carry a battery pack.
Why thinness does not predict battery life
A slim chassis can constrain battery space, but phones balance that limit in different ways. Battery chemistry and internal layout matter, as do the display, processor, software, network conditions, and tasks you perform. Capacity in milliamp-hours (mAh) is useful context, not a cross-model runtime score.

For example, Samsung lists the 5.8 mm Galaxy S25 Edge with a 3,900 mAh typical battery capacity and a 3,786 mAh rated minimum. Motorola’s UK page lists the 5.9 mm edge 70 with a 4,800 mAh silicon-carbon battery. Those manufacturer specifications illustrate different designs; they do not show which phone will last longer in the same person’s day. How to compare battery tests fairly
Look for independent tests that disclose the workload, brightness, network, and comparison devices. Results are most useful when the phones were tested under the same conditions and the task resembles yours.

In Tom’s Guide’s 2025 continuous web-browsing test over 5G at 150 nits, the iPhone Air lasted 12 hours 2 minutes and the Galaxy S25 Edge lasted 11 hours 48 minutes. That 14-minute difference applies to that test protocol; it does not establish which phone lasts longer across every routine, carrier, signal condition, or software version.
The same publication reported a separate video-streaming test: after five hours, the iPhone Air had 81% charge remaining and the Galaxy S25 Edge had 67%. Match the workload to your day
- Cellular browsing and travel: Prioritize tests using the network you rely on. Weak signal and frequent handoffs can change power use.
- Video: Check whether the result is local playback or streaming, since they are different tasks.
- Navigation, gaming, and camera use: Look for tests that include these sustained workloads if they dominate your day; a browsing result may not predict them.
Read manufacturer battery estimates as task-specific claims
Apple lists the iPhone Air for up to 27 hours of local video playback and up to 22 hours of streamed video playback. These are manufacturer estimates for defined playback tasks, not a promise of the same duration in mixed daily use and not directly comparable to Tom’s Guide’s continuous 5G browsing test. Check charging speed and what comes in the box
A fast top-up may matter more than maximum runtime if you have regular access to a charger. Check the exact regional model’s current specifications and whether the required adapter and cable are included.

These are manufacturer charging claims, not independent measurements. Motorola lists 68 W charging for the edge 70 on its UK product page; the cited page does not give a directly comparable charge-in-30-minutes figure. A battery accessory can extend time away from an outlet, but carrying one changes the phone’s practical portability. Apple’s estimates for iPhone Air rise from up to 27 hours of local video playback to up to 40 hours with the model-specific iPhone Air MagSafe Battery. Pre-purchase checklist
- Find independent endurance tests with disclosed brightness, network, workload, and comparison phones.
- Choose a test that resembles your likely use rather than relying on one headline runtime number.
- Use mAh and stated battery chemistry as context, not as a substitute for comparable runtime results.
- Check charging speed, required adapter and cable, and whether those accessories are included for your regional model.
- If you expect frequent top-ups, decide whether carrying a compatible, model-specific battery accessory is an acceptable trade-off.
