Short answer: no documented loading-screen mod makes Starfield render more frames per second, and the available pages do not establish a meaningful reduction in total loading time. These mods mainly hide, replace or redesign the transition while the game loads in the background. Black Loading Screen Remover states this explicitly, while Immersive Loading Screens describes any possible time saving as theoretical and very limited. Install them to make transitions less intrusive—not as a performance upgrade.
What “better performance” means in this case
Starfield performance has several separate parts: frame rate during play, stutter while assets stream, the time spent waiting for a cell to open, and the visual presentation of that wait. A loading-screen remover primarily changes the last item. It can remove a static image, suppress a progress bar, show a blank screen, or keep a scene visible while the next cell is prepared. None of those changes proves that the underlying work finishes sooner.

The distinction matters because a transition can look seamless even when the game is still doing the same loading work. If a mod hides the screen before the destination is ready, you may see a short pause, a frozen frame or a visual seam instead of a conventional loading screen. That is a presentation change, not a measured frame-rate gain.

- JOIN CONSTELLATION — Become part of the last group of space explorers seeking rare artifacts throughout the galaxy as you pursue humanity’s greatest mystery.
- CREATE YOUR EXPLORER — Customize your appearance and choose a Background and Traits as you shape your character in this role-playing game.
- EXPLORE THE SETTLED SYSTEMS — Visit more than 1,000 planets, from bustling cities and dangerous bases to wild landscapes, and meet characters, join factions, and take on quests.
- CAPTAIN YOUR SHIP — Personalize your ship, modify its weapons and shields, and assign crew members for unique bonuses. Take part in space dogfights, dock at star stations, and board or commandeer enemy ships.
- CRAFT AND FIGHT — Gather resources to craft supplies, equipment, and weapons, build outposts, and research crafting recipes. Modify weapons to suit your playstyle and use boost packs to maneuver in zero gravity.
- Black Loading Screen Remover says, in capital letters, “THIS MOD DOES NOT MAKE YOUR GAME LOAD FASTER.”
- Immersive Loading Screens says its script optimization could theoretically reduce loading times slightly, but describes the effect as very limited.
Use that expectation when deciding whether the visual trade-off is worthwhile. If your goal is higher FPS, fewer traversal stutters or a shorter total wait, these pages do not provide evidence that either mod delivers it.
How the documented mods change Starfield’s transitions
Immersive Loading Screens
The current Nexus Mods page lists version 3.0. The mod removes the loading-screen texture reference and the associated background and progress-bar assets, allowing the world to remain visible during a transition. It also streamlines parts of the loading menu’s ActionScript logic. The author links the 1.1 script optimization to a possible, very small reduction in loading time, but does not present a benchmark or a guaranteed improvement. Read the current page before installing because the instructions and compatibility notes can change.
Version 3.0’s changelog says it fixed code-loading errors caused by the Free Lanes update. That makes the version number relevant when you compare old installation guides with the current files: an older tutorial may describe a problem that the current release already addresses.
Black Loading Screen Remover
The page lists version 1.1.1b and shows a last-update date of 5 September 2023. Treat it as an older release and verify that it still matches your Starfield build and other interface modifications before using it.
This mod offers two distinct presentations:
- The removed-screen version hides short loading screens. It can expose visual glitches, including a brief star frame during grav jumps. The author notes that playing in first person may reduce some third-person camera artifacts.
- The white-screen option hides scene preparation while leaving long loading screens visible. It has fewer reported visual glitches, but a bright blank screen can be uncomfortable for people sensitive to light.
Neither option is advertised as a speed improvement. The page’s explicit no-faster-loading warning applies even when a transition appears shorter because the artwork has disappeared.
Side-by-side comparison
| Mod | Listed version or date | Transition presentation | Known visual or comfort issues | Interface compatibility | What the page establishes about speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Immersive Loading Screens | Version 3.0 | Removes loading texture, background and progress-bar assets so the world can render during transitions; also streamlines loading-menu ActionScript. | The page describes a theoretical, very limited loading-time effect; verify current behavior after updates. | Can work with other UI mods when they do not also modify loadingmenu.swf and fadermenu.swf. |
No meaningful gain is established; the author characterizes any possible saving as very limited. |
| Black Loading Screen Remover | Version 1.1.1b; updated 5 September 2023 | Either removes short loading screens or replaces scene preparation with a white screen while retaining long loading screens. | Removed-screen mode can show a brief star frame and third-person camera artifacts. White mode has fewer glitches but may be uncomfortable for light-sensitive users. | Consolidate interface files and avoid competing installs in the interface folder. | The author explicitly says it does not make the game load faster. |
Before installing: protect your current setup
Both projects replace files in Starfield’s interface area. A conflict can leave you with a broken menu, a missing transition or a game that behaves differently after another UI mod is installed. Make a reversible copy of your current files first.

- Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets
- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
- Close Starfield and your mod manager.
- Back up any existing
StarfieldCustom.iniand the contents of your Starfield interface folder. Store the copy outside the game directory so an update cannot overwrite it. - Write down which other UI mods edit loading menus, fades or interface files. The Immersive Loading Screens page specifically names
loadingmenu.swfandfadermenu.swfas conflict points. - Decide whether you prefer an unobstructed view, a black or hidden transition, or the white-screen option. Choosing before installation makes it easier to identify whether an artifact is expected behavior or a conflict.
- Check the mod page immediately before downloading. Version numbers, game updates and compatibility instructions can change, and Black Loading Screen Remover’s listed update is from 2023.
Installing Immersive Loading Screens
The page’s manual installation location is the game’s StarfieldDataInterface directory. The author also requires archive settings in StarfieldCustom.ini. Because those settings are version-sensitive, copy the exact entries shown on the current mod page rather than relying on a value from an old guide.
- Open the Immersive Loading Screens page and download the current version listed there.
- Extract the archive while preserving its folder structure. Do not flatten folders if the archive already contains a
Datapath. - Copy the supplied files into your Starfield installation so the interface files end up under
StarfieldDataInterface. - Open
StarfieldCustom.iniin a plain-text editor. Add or update the archive settings exactly as the mod page specifies, keeping a backup of the original file. - Start the game and test a repeatable transition, such as a grav jump or entering a settlement. Look for missing menus, a stuck fade, or a transition that never completes.
- If another UI mod edits
loadingmenu.swforfadermenu.swf, disable one mod at a time and retest. The project’s compatibility note allows other UI mods only when they do not also alter those files.
The expected result is a transition in which the loading artwork and progress-bar elements are absent and the game can display the world while the cell changes. That visual result should not be interpreted as proof that the cell loaded faster.
Installing Black Loading Screen Remover
Because this project is older, compatibility checking is more important than following a generic “copy everything” tutorial. Its page cautions users to consolidate interface files and avoid competing installs in the interface folder.
- Open the Black Loading Screen Remover page and confirm which file corresponds to the presentation you want.
- Choose the removed-screen version if you accept the possibility of a brief star frame or camera artifacts. Choose the white-screen option if reducing those glitches matters more than avoiding a bright blank transition; long loading screens remain visible in that mode.
- Back up your existing interface files before extracting anything.
- Install the files using the page’s current folder layout. If you use a mod manager, inspect the resulting virtual file conflicts; if you install manually, merge files deliberately rather than overwriting an unrelated interface mod without a backup.
- Consolidate duplicate interface files as the author instructs. Do not leave two competing copies of the same loading-menu assets in separate manual-install folders.
- Launch Starfield and test grav jumps in both first- and third-person views. A first-person test can help determine whether a camera artifact is the known third-person issue or a separate conflict.
If the game shows a white flash, a star frame or an unusual camera position but otherwise completes the transition, compare that behavior with the option’s documented trade-offs before removing the mod. If menus disappear or transitions hang indefinitely, restore the backup and test the interface folder without other UI replacements.
Choosing between the two approaches
Choose Immersive Loading Screens when you want the world visible
This is the more ambitious visual change: it removes the loading texture and related progress-bar assets and modifies loading-menu logic. It is the better fit for players who want transitions to feel integrated with the surrounding world and who are willing to check specific SWF-file conflicts. Version 3.0’s Free Lanes-related fix is another reason to use the current release rather than an archived package.

Choose the removed-screen Black option when short waits bother you most
The removed-screen variant targets short loading screens and accepts more visible artifacts. Grav-jump users should be prepared for a brief star frame, and third-person players may see camera-related glitches that are less apparent in first person.

Choose the white-screen Black option when artifacts are the priority
The white-screen variant leaves long loading screens in place and can be uncomfortable for light-sensitive users, but the author reports fewer visual glitches. It is a compromise, not a faster-loading mode.
Do not stack both projects casually
Both alter the interface presentation. Installing both, or combining either with another mod that edits the same loading assets, can create overlapping files and unpredictable results. Test one approach at a time and keep a known-good backup.

The transition looks shorter, but loading still takes the same time
This is expected. Removing artwork changes what you see while the game works; it does not establish that the underlying cell preparation finished sooner. Measure from the action that starts the transition until control returns, not from when the screen becomes visually blank.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
You see a star frame during a grav jump
That artifact is documented for the removed-screen Black option. Try first-person view to see whether the third-person camera contributes to the effect. If the frame is unacceptable, restore the white-screen option or remove the mod.
The screen is bright and uncomfortable
The white-screen Black option can be uncomfortable for light-sensitive users. Stop testing if it causes discomfort and use the removed-screen mode, the other project, or the unmodified game instead.
A UI mod stops working
Check whether it edits loadingmenu.swf, fadermenu.swf or other files in the interface directory. Immersive Loading Screens’ compatibility note excludes mods that also modify those two SWF files. Disable the newest or overlapping mod, then retest with only one interface replacement active.

- TELL YOUR STORY - In Starfield the most important story is the one you tell with your character. Start your journey by customizing your appearance and deciding your Background and Traits. Will you be an experienced explorer, a charming diplomat, a stealthy cyber runner, or something else entirely? The choice is yours. Decide who you will be and what you will become.
- EXPLORE OUTER SPACE - Venture through the stars and explore more than 1000 planets. Navigate bustling cities, explore dangerous bases, and traverse wild landscapes. Meet and recruit a memorable cast of characters, join in the adventures of various factions, and embark on quests across the Settled Systems. A new story or experience is always waiting to be discovered.
- CAPTAIN THE SHIP OF YOUR DREAMS - Pilot and command the ship of your dreams. Personalize the look of your ship, modify critical systems including weapons and shields, and assign crew members to provide unique bonuses. In deep space you will engage in high-stakes dogfights, encounter random missions, dock at star stations, and even board and commandeer enemy ships to add to your collection.
- DISCOVER, COLLECT, BUILD - Explore planets and discover the fauna, flora, and resources needed to craft everything from medicine and food to equipment and weapons. Build outposts and hire a crew to passively extract materials and establish cargo links to transfer resources between them. Invest these raw materials into research projects to unlock unique crafting recipes.
- LOCK AND LOAD - Space can be a dangerous place. A refined combat system gives you the tools to deal with any situation. Whether you prefer long-range rifles, laser weapons, or demolitions, each weapon type can be modified to complement your playstyle. Zero G environments add a chaotic spectacle to combat, while boost packs give players freedom to maneuver like never before.
The game hangs during a transition
Close the game, restore the backed-up interface files and StarfieldCustom.ini, then launch without the loading-screen mod. Reintroduce one change at a time. A clean baseline distinguishes a bad archive setting from a file conflict.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAn update breaks the installation
Verify the current mod page before copying files again. Immersive Loading Screens has already documented a code-loading fix tied to a game update, while Black Loading Screen Remover’s last listed update is older. Do not assume that a previously working interface replacement remains compatible after a Starfield patch.
What about newer seamless-landing and takeoff projects?
Reports in 2026 describe projects that go beyond hiding a conventional loading screen, but they should not be treated as established performance solutions.
In a 12 October 2026 report, PC Gamer described creator Frederik Wessberg’s seamless planetary-landing work as still in progress. The reported design loads assets in the background while the game remains interactive, then switches cells after those assets finish loading. Cloud cover helps disguise the visual seam; it is not a conventional loading screen and the report does not provide a quantified loading-time or frame-rate gain. Read the status report at PC Gamer, then verify whether a current release exists before attempting installation.
A separate PC Gamer report dated 21 July 2026 described Seamless Planet Takeoffs as a beta project that keeps the player in the cockpit while the ship ascends. Beta status means requirements, stability and availability can change. The report is an early look, not evidence of a generally released mod or a measured performance improvement. Check the project’s current release information through PC Gamer before treating it as an option.
How to evaluate the result honestly
A visual transition can feel faster even when the elapsed wait is unchanged. Use a simple before-and-after check if you want to know what changed on your system:
- Choose one repeatable route, such as the same grav jump between two locations.
- Run it several times without a mod and note the time from initiating the jump until control returns. Record whether you were in first or third person.
- Install only one loading-screen project and repeat the same route with the same save, camera view and other mods.
- Compare total elapsed time, not the moment the artwork disappears. Also record artifacts, input responsiveness, menu behavior and whether long transitions remain visible.
- Remove the mod if the visual trade-off is worse than the original screen or if interface conflicts appear. A cosmetic improvement is useful only when it remains comfortable and stable.
This method cannot turn the mod pages’ theoretical statements into a benchmark, but it prevents a hidden transition from being mistaken for a faster cell load. It also exposes differences between short grav-jump screens and longer transitions that the Black white-screen option intentionally leaves visible.
Bottom line for a performance-focused Starfield setup
Install a loading-screen remover for immersion, continuity or personal comfort, not for higher FPS. Immersive Loading Screens (version 3.0) removes loading imagery and streamlines menu logic while limiting any possible time saving to a very small theoretical effect. Black Loading Screen Remover (version 1.1.1b, last updated 5 September 2023) offers removed-screen and white-screen presentations, documents visual and comfort trade-offs, and explicitly says it does not make Starfield load faster. The newer seamless-landing and takeoff work remains experimental or in progress as of the cited 2026 reports, with no quantified performance benefit established.
