Usually, no. If you downloaded an RPG through the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog, your access to the base game and its associated DLC ends when your membership expires or the game leaves the catalog. A DLC pack you purchased is not erased, however: you can use it again after you resubscribe or purchase the base game, provided the game, edition, account and region are compatible.
Streaming has a separate restriction. PlayStation says DLC and add-ons are not supported while streaming a title, so owning an expansion does not make it usable in a streamed session.

The rule in one sentence
PlayStation treats access to a catalog game and access to its add-ons as linked in practice. You may pay for an RPG expansion separately, but that purchase does not give you a continuing right to launch a base game that you received only through the Game Catalog.

PlayStation’s 2022 FAQ says that if your membership expires, or if the content leaves the service, you also lose access to the DLC and add-on content associated with that game. The same guidance says purchased DLC becomes usable again when you resubscribe or buy the title. PlayStation’s current catalog information repeats those restoration paths.

That rule concerns games obtained through the catalog. Monthly games and separately purchased games are different entitlement types and need to be checked separately.
Check these five conditions before troubleshooting
Your result depends on more than whether a DLC transaction appears in your purchase history. Check the following conditions in order:
- How you obtained the base RPG: Game Catalog, a monthly game, or a normal purchase.
- How you are running it: downloaded to your console or streamed.
- Whether PS Plus is active: an expired membership removes catalog access.
- Whether the title is still in the catalog: a game leaving the service has the same practical effect as an expired entitlement.
- Compatibility: the same PlayStation account, country or region, game edition and DLC version must line up.

Game Catalog RPGs: what expires and what does not
While your subscription is active
PlayStation Plus Extra includes the Game Catalog, while Premium includes the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog. An eligible RPG in the catalog can be downloaded and played without buying the base game separately while the membership and catalog listing remain valid. A DLC pack bought from the PlayStation Store can be installed alongside that downloaded copy, assuming it is the correct add-on for that game and region.

The DLC transaction and the catalog entitlement are separate practical matters. The store can record that you bought an expansion even though your right to launch the base RPG comes from PS Plus. Installing the add-on does not convert the catalog copy into a permanent game license.
After PS Plus expires
When the membership expires, the catalog entitlement no longer authorizes the base game. The associated DLC is also unavailable because there is no accessible base title for it to attach to. The files may remain on the console, and the purchase may remain visible in your account history, but launching the game or expansion is blocked until the base-game entitlement is restored.
You do not need to buy the DLC again. PlayStation’s stated restoration options are to resubscribe or purchase the base title. Once one of those routes supplies a valid entitlement, the purchased add-on can be used again, subject to compatibility checks.
If the RPG leaves the catalog first
The same result applies when the title is removed from the service while your membership is still active. Your subscription does not guarantee permanent access to every catalog game. If the listing expires, both the catalog game and its associated add-ons become unavailable through that entitlement. Buying the base game or regaining access through an eligible subscription listing is required before the DLC can function again.

Streaming is not a workaround for DLC
PlayStation explicitly says DLC and add-ons are not supported when a title is streamed. This is separate from the expiration rule: even an active Premium membership does not make an expansion playable inside a streaming session when the platform does not support add-ons for that title.
If you need an RPG expansion, use a downloaded copy under an eligible catalog entitlement or own the base game separately. Downloading the add-on alone will not change a streamed session into a DLC-compatible installation. If the console offers both “stream” and “download” options, choose download and confirm that the base game is installed from the same account and compatible edition.
Monthly games require a title-specific check
PlayStation describes monthly games separately from the Game Catalog: they are downloadable and playable at no extra cost while the membership is active. The official pages cited for this rule do not provide one complete, title-independent policy for every DLC situation involving a monthly game.

- Whether the monthly-game claim is still valid on the account.
- Whether the DLC listing names the same base-game edition as the monthly download.
- Whether the add-on is sold for the same country or region as the account.
- Whether the title page or PlayStation support information gives a special entitlement condition.
If the monthly-game entitlement has ended, the practical question is again whether you have another valid license for the base RPG. A DLC purchase by itself should not be assumed to preserve access to a base game obtained only as a membership benefit.
Separately purchased RPGs
If you bought the RPG itself, expiration of PS Plus does not remove that purchase. The base-game license comes from the purchase rather than the subscription, so a compatible DLC pack can continue to work after membership ends. PlayStation’s restoration language also indicates that buying the title restores use of purchased DLC that was previously tied to a catalog copy.
Edition matching matters. An expansion sold for a specific regional or platform edition may not activate against a different edition, even when the game has the same name. Use the same account that bought the DLC and confirm that the base game and add-on are offered for the same country or region.

Follow this sequence instead of immediately purchasing the DLC again:
- Identify the base-game source. Look at the game’s tile or store listing and determine whether it came from Game Catalog, a monthly-game claim, or a separate purchase.
- Check membership status. If PS Plus has expired, a catalog copy will remain locked until you resubscribe or buy the base title.
- Check the catalog listing. If the RPG has left the service, an active subscription alone will not restore that catalog entitlement.
- Confirm download status. If you are streaming, switch to a downloaded copy. PlayStation does not support DLC and add-ons while streaming a title.
- Verify the account. Sign in with the account that owns the DLC and, where applicable, made the monthly-game claim.
- Match edition and region. Compare the base game’s product information with the DLC listing. Regional or edition differences can prevent recognition.
- Restore the base entitlement. Resubscribe at the tier that includes the game, or purchase the base RPG. Then reopen the game and check its add-on or downloadable-content menu.
- Reinstall only after entitlement is fixed. If the add-on still does not appear after the base game is valid, remove and reinstall the DLC from the account’s library or the game’s store page. Reinstalling before restoring the base license cannot overcome an expired catalog entitlement.
Common situations, answered precisely
“I paid for an expansion, so why is it locked?”
The payment proves you bought the expansion; it does not prove that you still have a license for the catalog-provided base game. Restore the base RPG by resubscribing or buying it, then use the existing DLC purchase.
“The game is still installed. Should it work offline?”
Installation is not the same as an active entitlement. A downloaded catalog game can remain on storage after expiration, but the service license must still be valid before the game and its associated add-ons can launch.
“Can I stream the game and use my expansion?”
No. PlayStation’s stated streaming limitation excludes DLC and add-ons. Download a supported copy or purchase the base game separately.
“Does buying the DLC preserve my catalog game?”
No. The DLC purchase does not preserve access to a base RPG obtained only through the Game Catalog. The base game requires its own active catalog entitlement or purchase.
“Will resubscribing always fix it?”
Resubscribing restores the relevant access only when the RPG is still included for your subscription tier and the DLC is compatible with the account, region and edition. If the game has left the catalog, buying the base title is the stated alternative.
How to avoid an unexpected lockout
- Before your membership ends, note which RPGs you obtained solely from the Game Catalog or as monthly games.
- Keep receipts or purchase-history entries for paid DLC so you can distinguish an entitlement problem from a missing transaction.
- Download the game when you intend to use an expansion; do not rely on streaming for add-on content.
- Check the catalog’s removal information before assuming an active subscription guarantees access.
- When buying DLC, verify the exact game edition and account region shown on the store listing.
Bottom line for each entitlement type
A downloaded Game Catalog RPG loses access to both the game and its associated DLC when PS Plus expires or the game leaves the service. Your purchased DLC can be used again after you resubscribe or buy the base RPG. Streaming does not support DLC or add-ons, even though the subscription itself may be active. Monthly-game cases are not covered by one universal DLC rule in the cited official guidance, so check the individual title. A separately purchased base game remains the dependable foundation for continuing to use compatible expansions.
