Yes. Some Nintendo Switch platformers let two or more people play together on one console, and the examples confirmed by Nintendo below support up to four players. Support, game modes and controller needs vary by title, so check the specific game’s Nintendo listing before buying.
What does local multiplayer mean on Switch?
Here, local multiplayer means playing together on the same Nintendo Switch console. It is different from online play and local wireless play, which can involve other consoles. Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder support information treats those as distinct arrangements.

Can you play a Switch platformer with two players?
Yes, in the titles above. Their listed same-system counts include two players. Check the particular game’s listing for whether its multiplayer is cooperative or competitive, and whether the mode you want works on one console.
How many players can play Super Mario Bros. Wonder on one Switch?
Nintendo says up to four players can play locally on one Nintendo Switch system. The listing also describes online play, while Nintendo’s support guidance distinguishes single-system local play from both online and local wireless play.

Do you need extra Joy-Cons or controllers?
It depends on the game and the controllers your group already has. Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe listing says one Joy-Con can be used by one player, but also cautions that additional accessories may be required for multiplayer. That warning is specific to that title and does not establish the requirements for every platformer.
