Usually, yes—but it depends on what you claimed and where. For an Epic Games Store full-game giveaway, claim the game before the offer ends and Epic says it remains in your library. Missing the deadline means that offer will not add the game to your account. A library entry is a lasting entitlement under the store’s support policy, not a guarantee of ownership or perpetual access to the game, its files, or its servers.
What happens to an Epic free game after the offer ends?
If you completed the claim for a full game during its promotion period, the offer ending does not remove it from your Epic Games Store library. Epic Games Store Support says: “Previously claimed free games remain in your library permanently.” Epic’s missing-games and claimed-promotions guidance describes the library status of previously claimed games.

The important distinction is between claiming and merely visiting the offer page. Epic says, “To add the game to your library, you must claim it within the indicated period.” Epic’s guidance for a missed free promotion explains that the claim must happen before the stated window closes. Once that window has passed, the expired offer does not add the game retroactively.

Check the offer type and whether the transaction actually completed. A page view or an unfinished attempt is not the same as a completed claim that appears on the account. Epic’s policy concerns previously claimed free games; it does not make every item labeled free a permanent full-game entitlement.

| Offer type | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Full game claimed during an Epic promotion | Epic says previously claimed free games remain in the library permanently. Epic support |
| Epic promotion not claimed before its deadline | The game is not added through that expired offer; Epic requires a claim within the indicated period. Epic support |
| Temporary beta or press build | Epic distinguishes these from permanent game access; a temporary build does not grant permanent access. Epic support |
| In-game reward delivered through a membership offer | Retention depends on the specific game and offer. Bungie says claimed Prime Gaming content delivered into Destiny 2 is kept subject to Destiny 2 rules; that does not establish a general rule for other rewards or game keys. Bungie’s Destiny 2 FAQ |
| Game in a rotating subscription catalogue | Catalogue access is a different arrangement from claiming a one-time giveaway. Retention depends on that service’s terms; the sources cited here do not establish current terms for named console catalogues. |
Does cancelling Prime remove something you already claimed?
There is no single answer for every Prime Gaming offer because “claim” can mean redeeming a key at another storefront or receiving an item inside a game. For the specific case of Destiny 2 rewards, Bungie says: “Once you claim your content, all content that is delivered to your game is yours to keep, subject to any Destiny 2 rules or policies that apply to the content.” The statement concerns content delivered to Destiny 2; it does not promise that every Prime Gaming key or item remains available under the same conditions. It also separates keeping an already delivered reward from eligibility for future drops, which still requires Prime membership.
Does “permanently in the library” mean you own the game forever?
No. Epic’s support statement describes whether a previously claimed title remains listed in the library. Epic’s End User License Agreement says that adding software at no charge is a “Transaction” that grants a limited license, not ownership. It also says that in rare cases a game may be removed from the store and become unavailable for further download or access through it.

Keep these separate: the account’s library entitlement, the ability to download or launch the software, the availability of online services, and the game’s license terms. A permanent library listing does not by itself promise that servers, online features, files, or every route to access will remain available indefinitely.

- Sign in to the account used for the claim. Epic’s missing-games guidance says to check that you are using the account where the game was claimed or purchased. A missing library entry can be an account or display issue rather than the promotion having expired.
- Confirm the claim completed during the offer window. Epic requires the game to be claimed within the indicated period. If the offer ended before the claim was completed, that promotion will not add it to the library.
- Verify what the offer included. Check whether it was a full game, temporary beta or press build, in-game item, trial, or catalogue access. Those are not interchangeable entitlements.
- For a third-party offer, check its destination and terms. Confirm which account or storefront received a key, or whether the reward was delivered inside a game. Use that service’s own support guidance for the particular offer; an Epic or Destiny 2 policy does not settle other services’ terms.
Epic’s Free Games page lists its current promotions. Check the offer’s displayed end time and complete the claim before it closes.

How to judge a “free game” offer
- What are you receiving? A full-game license, temporary build, in-game reward, trial, and subscription-catalogue access can have different rules.
- Where does it go? Identify the storefront account or game account that receives the claim; that is where the entitlement or reward should appear.
- When is the deadline? Distinguish the time to claim an offer from any later activation or redemption deadline.
- What does membership control? A membership might be required to claim an item without being required to keep an already delivered item—or the service may impose different conditions. Check the specific terms.
- What could limit access later? License terms, store removal, service or server availability, and subscription expiry are separate issues, not one universal “free game” rule.
