Yes. Fitbit trackers and watches still work with the Google Health app, provided the device is supported, nearby, charged, connected by Bluetooth and linked to a Google Account. Fitbit Account access ended after May 19, 2026, so continuing users must have moved their Fitbit account to Google. Google Health can receive Fitbit measurements and selected data from other services, but the exact metrics depend on the Fitbit model and the permissions you grant to connected apps.

What “Google Health” means for Fitbit owners

Google Health is the app Google now documents for setting up and syncing Fitbit devices. It is not the same product as Google Fit. Google Fit has its own integration with Android Health Connect, while Google Health handles Fitbit devices and can also receive selected information through Health Connect, Apple Health or certain direct partner connections.

When a Fitbit syncs, measurements collected by the tracker or watch are transferred to the Google Health account. Google Health may then combine that first-party Fitbit information with data you enter manually or allow another service to share. Those are separate stages: a Fitbit can sync normally even when a particular third-party connection is disabled, and a connected app does not automatically receive every category stored in Google Health.

Account requirements after the 2026 Fitbit transition

Fitbit Account access ended on May 19, 2026

Google says Fitbit Account access ended after May 19, 2026. To keep using Fitbit through Google Health, users needed to move their Fitbit account to a Google Account. Google says selected historical Fitbit data is retained during migration and that the move cannot be undone.

Google’s migration information described download and deletion choices before data-deletion processing began on July 15, 2026. Those dates have passed. If you did not migrate, use Google’s current account-recovery and Fitbit support options to determine whether your account or historical data can still be recovered; do not assume that reinstalling the app will restore an unmigrated Fitbit Account.

Which Fitbit devices can connect?

Google’s setup instructions cover adding a Fitbit device in the Google Health app. The documented rule is generally one Fitbit device at a time. Google lists an exception for pairing one Google Fitbit Air and one Pixel Watch together. Because supported models, app versions and phone requirements can change, check the current device list in Google Health before making a model-specific compatibility decision.

Google’s device-data catalogue includes current and older Fitbit hardware, including Charge 6. Inclusion in the catalogue does not mean that every model exposes the same sensors or calculations. A legacy tracker may continue to sync its available measurements while lacking features introduced on newer hardware.

How Fitbit syncing works

Trackers and watches

Fitbit trackers and watches sync to a phone or tablet over Bluetooth Low Energy. Google describes automatic syncing during the day when the device is nearby. Opening Google Health can trigger a sync; you can also start one manually by opening Connections and choosing Sync, or by pulling down on the app screen.

Scales

Fitbit Aria and Aria 2 scales use Wi-Fi. Aria Air uses Bluetooth, so the phone running the app needs to be nearby while you weigh yourself.

What a successful sync does—and does not do

A successful device sync uploads information to your Google Health account. It does not automatically grant every other app access to that information. External apps must use a supported route—Health Connect on Android, Apple Health on iPhone or a direct partner integration—and you must approve the relevant permissions.

Troubleshooting when a Fitbit will not sync

  1. Confirm the account. Make sure the Fitbit is associated with the Google Account you currently use in Google Health. An old Fitbit Account login will not substitute for the post-transition Google Account requirement.
  2. Check proximity and Bluetooth. Keep the tracker or watch close to the phone, turn Bluetooth on, and make sure the device has charge. For an Aria Air, remain near the scale during the weigh-in.
  3. Review Android permissions. On Android 12 and later, Google documents the Nearby devices permission for Fitbit connections. Older Android versions may require location permission for Bluetooth scanning.
  4. Remove background restrictions. Battery-saver, bedtime and aggressive background limits can stop Google Health from syncing automatically. Allow the app to run in the background, then open it and pull down to force a sync.
  5. Verify internet access. Bluetooth transfers the device data to the phone, but the app still needs an internet connection to update your Google Health account.
  6. Update and restart. Install available Google Health, phone and Fitbit firmware updates, restart the phone and tracker, and try Connections → Sync again.
  7. Check for a connection warning. If a partner app shows Connections → Partner Apps → Needs Action, the issue may concern third-party authorization rather than the Fitbit-to-Google Health sync itself.

These checks address the common causes Google lists—permissions, Bluetooth, proximity, internet access, charge, app restrictions and updates. Buying a new cable or accessory is not a prerequisite for Google Health syncing.

What data can Google Health receive from Fitbit?

Google’s privacy FAQ gives broad categories, but it does not promise that every Fitbit supplies every item. The following list describes categories Google identifies; the actual set depends on the model, its sensors, your settings and whether a measurement was recorded.

Rank #3
Google Fitbit Air - Screenless Activity Tracker, Obsidian | Fitness, heart rate, & sleep tracking, personalized AI-powered coaching, up to 7 days’ battery life, works with iOS & Android
  • Google Fitbit Air is the unbelievably comfortable, exceptionally smart way to transform your health[1]; and Google Health brings together effortless tracking and adaptive coaching to help make the most of your everyday[2]

  • Designed for every occasion: With no screen to distract you or disrupt your style, your tracker moves seamlessly from bracelet to workout band to sleep band, and you can change looks in seconds – just press the pebble in, click, and go
  • Long battery life: Google Fitbit Air’s battery lasts up to a week, and fast charging gets you one day of battery life in just five minutes[6,7]
Category What it can represent Important limitation
Activity Steps, distance traveled and active minutes Availability and calculation vary by device and enabled features.
Energy Calories burned An estimate generated from available profile and sensor data, not a universal measurement on every model.
Body measurements Weight and other manually entered information Weight may come from a connected scale or manual entry rather than the wrist device.
Heart data Heart rate, resting heart rate and, on some models, heart-rate variability Sensor availability differs substantially between generations.
Sleep Sleep logs, sleep stages and, on supported devices, a sleep score Not every Fitbit records stages or calculates a score.
Additional wellness metrics Stress or mindfulness measures, breathing rate, blood-oxygen tracking and skin-temperature variation on supported hardware These are model- and setting-dependent, and some require the device to collect enough data.
Connected-service data Information supplied by apps, devices or services you connect directly or through a sharing platform The partner chooses which categories to send; Google Health may not use partner data for every feature.

Example: what Google lists for Charge 6

Google’s catalogue entry for Charge 6 lists steps, distance, swimming, cardio fitness, sleep log, sleep stages, sleep score, stress and mindfulness measures, heart rate, resting heart rate, heart-rate variability, breathing rate, blood-oxygen tracking and skin-temperature variation. That is a model-specific listing, not a specification for every Fitbit. Older models can expose only a subset of these measurements.

Does Fitbit share health data with Google?

Fitbit data is transferred to the Google Health account when you sync. Separately, Google Health can receive information from connected apps and devices. You control those onward connections by choosing a sharing route and granting permissions.

Google’s privacy FAQ states that Fitbit health and wellness data is not used for Google Ads. Its stated commitment is: The Fitbit app is now the Google Health app, and we continue to keep this commitment. This is Google’s policy statement, not an independent privacy audit or a guarantee that every third-party app follows the same rule.

Google Health, Health Connect, Apple Health and Google Fit

Android: Health Connect

On Android, most third-party device and app connections use Health Connect. A connected app can be granted permission to read, write or both read and write particular data types. Review those permissions rather than accepting an all-data connection by default.

  • 【1.1" AMOLED Touch Color Screen】AMOLED HD touch color screen is designed with clear and bright display, providing you with high quality touch and visual experience. This smartwatch includes a large number of original dials and supports custom dials.

iPhone: Apple Health

On iPhone, Google says Apple Health is the usual sharing route for many third-party connections. The categories that appear depend on what the partner is permitted to export.

Google Fit is separate

Google Fit is a separate app with its own Health Connect integration. Google’s Fit instructions allow you to grant Fit permission to access or edit Health Connect data and to turn Fit syncing off. Disconnecting stops future access or editing, but an app that already downloaded historical data may retain its own copy.

Feature-specific limits

Some Google Health features currently use first-party data only. Google specifically identifies sleep score and Cardio Load among features that may not use measurements supplied by a partner app. Therefore, a metric appearing in Health Connect does not guarantee that every Google Health feature will calculate from it.

Third-party Fitbit connections: the October 30, 2026 deadline

Google says Fitbit Web API support ends on October 30, 2026. If a partner app relies on that API, its Fitbit connection must be re-established through the partner app before the cutoff. In Google Health, check Connections → Partner Apps → Needs Action and follow the reconnection instructions shown there.

  • Sleep better: Automatic sleep tracking, a daily detailed Sleep Score, smart wake vibrating alarm, and sleep mode help you improve your sleep quality[3]

Google says connections already using Health Connect or Apple Health are not affected by this announced API retirement, and historical data already synced to Google Health is retained. Verify the route used by your particular partner before deciding that no action is needed: two apps offering “Fitbit sync” may use different connection methods.

How to control what is shared

  • Connect only the app or device you need, rather than authorizing every available category.
  • Review read and write permissions separately; writing permission allows an app to add or change records in the shared data store.
  • Disable a connection in Health Connect, Apple Health or Google Health when you no longer want future transfers.
  • Remember that disconnecting prevents future access or editing but cannot recall a historical copy an app already downloaded.
  • Check the source of a metric before interpreting it: a value may originate from a Fitbit sensor, a scale, manual entry or a partner service.

What to expect from an older Fitbit

An older Fitbit can remain useful for the measurements it was designed to collect, even if it lacks newer sensors or calculations. Do not infer blood-oxygen tracking, skin-temperature variation, sleep stages, cardio fitness or heart-rate variability from the fact that the device syncs successfully. Confirm the exact model entry and its enabled settings before relying on a particular metric.

Likewise, compatibility with Google Health does not guarantee compatibility with every third-party app. Device sync, Health Connect or Apple Health sharing, and direct partner integrations are separate compatibility questions.

The Bottom Line

Fitbit devices still work with Google Health in 2026 when they meet Google’s device and account requirements. Move to a Google Account if you have not already, treat the model’s own feature list as authoritative, and audit Health Connect, Apple Health and partner permissions separately from ordinary Fitbit syncing. If a partner uses the Fitbit Web API, reconnect it before October 30, 2026.
