Samsung lists a typical 4,300 mAh battery and up to 30 hours of video playback for the Galaxy S26. Those are manufacturer figures under controlled conditions, not a promise of 30 hours of ordinary use or a measured estimate of a typical day.
Does a compact phone automatically have worse battery life?
No. A compact phone can have less physical space available for a battery, but that is only one part of the endurance question. What does Samsung’s “up to 30 hours” claim mean?
Samsung describes the S26 playback number as an internal estimate under controlled conditions. That distinction matters because the test conditions remove or constrain parts of daily phone use. Streaming, browsing, messaging, taking photos, gaming and using apps in the background are not the same workload as playing a locally stored video under controlled conditions. Network environment and usage patterns are variables Samsung itself identifies. The available figures do not quantify how much any one of those factors changes runtime, so they cannot support a precise personal-hours estimate.

For example, two people with the same model may use it differently: one may mostly play locally stored video, while another spends more time gaming, taking photos or relying on a mobile connection. Those are meaningful differences in activity, but the official playback figure does not state the resulting battery life for either person. How to interpret mAh without mistaking it for hours
Milliamp-hours (mAh) describe battery capacity; they are not a clock. How the Galaxy S26 compares with the S25
Battery specifications can also change between generations without changing a phone’s size category. Consider the S26+ if you prefer the larger model and its listed capacity
The S26+ has a 6.7-inch display and a 4,900 mAh typical battery capacity in Samsung’s US listing. Its listed video-playback estimate is up to 31 hours.
