But the official documentation described here does not establish which of those two sources brings more subscribers to a continuous stream. To answer for your channel, compare your own live-stream data—and keep views, reach and subscriber gains separate.
Search and Suggested bring viewers in different ways
YouTube Search
Search traffic comes from YouTube search results. YouTube says search ranking depends on how well a title, description and video content match a viewer’s query, as well as engagement for that search. In the Reach report, you can inspect search terms that led viewers to the content.

Suggested videos
Suggested traffic comes from recommendations beside or after other videos, and from links in video descriptions. YouTube describes Suggested videos as recommendations intended to offer viewers likely next watches. A recommendation can be related to the video someone is watching, but it is also personalized using factors such as watch history. The Reach report can show which videos suggested your content.

Those are different discovery contexts, not evidence that one reliably converts better for every 24/7 stream. Search may reveal that viewers are finding a stream through a particular query; Suggested may reveal the kinds of viewing sessions in which it appears. Neither source’s view count alone tells you how many subscribers it produced.

What YouTube’s analytics can—and cannot—tell you
YouTube Studio’s Live analytics can report how viewers find live streams, including Search and Suggested. YouTube also provides a subscribers report broken down by content type, including live streams. These reports answer related but distinct questions: where viewers came from, and how many subscribers were gained by a content type.
The documented reporting does not provide a direct Search-versus-Suggested subscriber conversion breakdown for a continuous live stream. The Analytics API’s video-filtered subscribersGained metric counts subscriptions from the specified video’s watch page; traffic-source reporting is documented separately as views and viewing statistics by how viewers reached content. You therefore should not claim that every subscriber gained by a 24/7 stream is attributed to Search or Suggested based on these reports.

How to compare sources for your own live streams
- Open YouTube Studio Analytics and filter the Content report to Live. Inspect “How viewers find your live streams.” Compare Search and Suggested with other listed sources, such as Browse, channel pages, and direct or unknown traffic.
- Look beyond views. Review impressions, impressions click-through rate, views and average view duration. Search terms can indicate what audience need or topic brings people in; the videos listed as suggesting your stream can show the viewing contexts in which it appears.
- Check subscriber gains separately. Review the subscribers report by content type to see subscriber gains attributed to live streams. Do not treat that live-stream total as a Search-versus-Suggested split.
- Compare like with like. Use equivalent date windows and, where possible, streams with similar topics, duration, audiences and promotion. YouTube advises comparing the same content type because audience behavior differs by format.
- Keep the conclusion narrow. You can report which sources brought views and how many subscribers live streams gained in the chosen period. Unless your reporting provides a valid source-level attribution, you cannot conclude that Search or Suggested generated more of those subscribers.
How to interpret the result
- More Search views: Search brought more observed traffic in that comparison, not necessarily more subscribers.
- More Suggested views: Suggested brought more observed traffic in that comparison, not necessarily more subscribers.
- More live-stream subscribers overall: The content-type report shows subscriber gains from live streams for the period, but does not by itself identify Search or Suggested as the source.
- A change over time: It may reflect differences in the stream, audience, topic, promotion or viewing context as well as discovery. Compare equivalent streams and dates before assigning a cause.
YouTube cautions that not all videos are eligible to be recommended, and that recommendations are ranked for the audience rather than guaranteed by a particular traffic source. Treat channel analytics as evidence about your own results, not a universal prediction for other 24/7 streams.
