Watch time from a 24/7 YouTube livestream can count toward qualified public watch hours if the stream is public and its replay remains available as a video on demand (VOD). YouTube excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. Simply running a stream continuously does not guarantee that its hours will count.
What must be true for livestream hours to count?
YouTube’s eligibility guidance includes qualified watch hours from long-form videos you have set to public. For livestreams, it specifically excludes broadcasts that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. In practice, keep the livestream public and leave its replay available after the broadcast ends.
YouTube’s published guidance does not identify 24/7 broadcasts as a special category or state a separate maximum duration. It also does not specify an exact processing timeline for completed livestream hours to appear in the eligibility counter. The stated public-video and archive conditions are the firm basis for assessing whether the hours qualify.
Which YouTube monetization threshold are you aiming for?
Watch hours are one route through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), not the only one. The full ads threshold and the earlier-access tier have different requirements and unlock different features. Thresholds below reflect YouTube’s current official eligibility and monetization pages as accessed on October 3, 2026; those pages do not show publication dates.

The watch-hour windows are rolling periods: the full threshold looks at the last 12 months, while the earlier tier’s long-form option uses 365 days. Check the eligibility information in YouTube Studio for your channel’s available features and current progress.
Which livestream and video hours do not qualify?
- Unlisted livestreams: YouTube lists livestreams that are unlisted among the exclusions.
- Deleted livestreams: Deleting a broadcast removes it from the qualifying category.
- Livestreams not converted to VOD: The replay must be available as an on-demand video for the livestream hours to qualify under YouTube’s stated rule.
- Private, unlisted, or deleted videos: These do not contribute qualified public watch hours.
- Ad campaigns and Shorts: Watch time from ad campaigns and Shorts views are not qualified public watch hours for the long-form threshold. Shorts views are counted through the separate Shorts route.
For a 24/7 channel, the key operational detail is what happens to each completed broadcast. Confirm that the replay is public and available as a video, rather than assuming that continuous live output alone will satisfy the archive condition.

Do counted hours mean you will earn from live ads?
No. Qualified watch hours help determine eligibility; they are not a promise of YPP approval or ad earnings. A channel must meet the applicable program and feature rules, be accepted where required, and accept the relevant monetization module.
YouTube says monetized livestreams may have pre-roll and mid-roll ads, but an ad slot is not guaranteed to serve. Watch-hour eligibility and actual ad delivery are separate questions.
