For exploring Hajin when a trip may turn into a fight, a squad is the safer default; solo play is a reasonable choice if you prefer to set your own pace and accept more uncertainty. That is a tactical inference from DMZ’s documented activities and threats, not a measured performance ranking: official sources publish no comparative survival, objective-completion, or extraction rates by party size.
What changes when you explore solo or with a squad?
DMZ is an extraction experience set in the Hajin Exclusion Zone. Its official overview describes solo and squad deployments, exploration, objectives, progression, inventory, and other Operators in the environment. A quiet route is not guaranteed to stay quiet: rival players, objectives, or encounters can disrupt a plan. Call of Duty’s June 6, 2026 overview establishes those broad conditions, but does not claim that one party size performs better.

|---|---|---|
| Exploration pace | More self-directed, with no teammate coordination required. This is practical advice, not a source-verified gameplay mechanic. | Teammates can coordinate a shared route or objective; that benefit is a practical inference, not a published performance finding. |
| When contact happens | You have no teammate backup. The official guide’s Hunt Operators Dynamic Op specifically calls for facing a full rival squad. | Teammates may provide support during contact, but official sources do not quantify that advantage. |
| Lower-intensity exploration | Side Ops are described as lower-intensity ways to explore; the guide does not restrict them to a particular party size. | Side Ops can also suit a squad; the guide does not restrict them to a particular party size. |

Which activities suit a first exploration run?
Start with Side Ops if you want a lower-intensity outing
The October 2026 Hajin gameplay guide describes Side Ops as lower-intensity opportunities to explore, earn DMZ XP, find resources, and uncover intel. Its examples include recovering lost Supply Drops, repairing trucks, and climbing radio towers to reveal a Lieutenant’s general location. “Lower-intensity” does not mean risk-free: unexpected danger can still interrupt the activity.

#1 Best Overall
Choose Hunt Operators only when you intend to take a fight
Hunt Operators is a Dynamic Op that calls for facing a full squad of rival Operators. That makes it a particularly high-risk choice for a solo explorer. A squad is the more cautious pick for this activity, but the guide does not establish that teammates guarantee success or eliminate the risk.
How to plan your deployment
- Check Orders and task requirements before deployment. Confirm what the planned activity asks you to do, so you do not set out with a route or equipment plan that does not fit the objective.
- Choose your Operator and equipment for that task. The official guide recommends matching your Operator and gear to the activity; no particular loadout is shown to erase a solo disadvantage.
- Pick a route that fits your risk tolerance. For a quieter exploratory goal, consider a Side Op. If you plan to take on Hunt Operators, treat it as a combat commitment rather than a casual detour.
- Decide whether you want independent movement or backup. Solo reduces coordination needs; a squad offers potential support if plans meet resistance. Neither choice has a published comparative success rate.
Is Hajin easier solo or in a squad?
Official material does not establish that Hajin is objectively easier for either party size. It does show why a squad is the safer default for exploration that could become combat: other Operators share the environment, and one named activity expects players to face a full rival squad. Solo can still fit a deliberate, lower-intensity run, especially when you value self-directed movement and accept the added uncertainty.

Xbox Wire’s June 2026 interview with multiplayer creative director Joe Cecot discusses solo play as a design consideration, but design intent is not evidence of a measured balance advantage or better outcomes. The practical choice is therefore about how you want to explore, not a proven universal “best” playstyle. Read the Xbox Wire interview.
