What should you bring on a high-risk mission? In Modern Warfare 4’s Hajin DMZ, bring equipment that directly supports your objective, covers the likely engagement distances, and leaves room for useful recovery or resupply items. There is no evidence-backed universal “best” build: prepare at the FOB, use the Tac-Map and threat meter to manage the approach, and treat extraction as part of the mission rather than an afterthought.
What should you bring on a high-risk mission?
Modern Warfare 4 DMZ is a persistent extraction mode: operators loot, complete objectives, fight AI and rival Operators, then try to extract with rewards. Your gear should match the task and route, not a generic ranking. Activision’s official Hajin DMZ guide, published October 5, 2026, describes the Forward Operating Base (FOB), loadout preparation, backpack use, threat behavior, objectives, and extraction, but does not publish a ranked weapon build or complete equipment-slot counts.

Choose equipment around the objective
Before you equip, identify what the deployment requires: a key, a specific item, entry into a compound, a Lieutenant hunt, or a timed route. Favor tools and consumables that support that job, while preserving enough flexibility to respond to contact. DMZ Orders and objectives appear on the HUD and Tac-Map, so use those details to shape the loadout rather than assuming every high-risk run needs the same kit.

Choose weapon roles for the sightlines and contact distances you expect along the route. Weapon rarity and attachments are visible, and the FOB includes a firing range, but the official guide does not compare particular guns or builds. Treat weapon choice as a fit-for-route decision, not a claim about a proven “best” weapon.

Keep useful recovery and resupply accessible
The backpack can hold items outside the active loadout. Eligible consumables, extra armor plates, and Ammo or Armor Field Upgrade boxes can be used or swapped from it. Keep relevant recovery and resupply items accessible when available; the guide does not establish full backpack capacity or a required quantity for a mission.
What do I need to do before I deploy?
- At the FOB Stash/Loadout station: review the objective, then equip weapons and gear that support it. The station stores loot and is where you prepare before infiltration.
- In the backpack: keep flexible, useful consumables or equipment when available. Some eligible items can be used directly or swapped into the active loadout during deployment.
- At the firing range: check your chosen weapons and attachments before leaving the FOB. The guide confirms the range is available but does not identify a top-performing build.
- Before moving out: review the objective, threat areas, nearby enemies, caches, and radiation on the Tac-Map, and have an exfil route in mind.
Do not apply gear counts or item behavior from the original Warzone 2.0 DMZ to this Modern Warfare 4 mode. Activision’s 2022 Warzone 2.0 overview covers a different edition and period; it is not evidence for current MW4 slot limits or balance.

How do I reduce threat during the approach?
Use the Tac-Map and HUD as active planning tools. The map shows objectives, threat areas, enemy compounds, key buildings, caches, radiation, nearby enemies, and pings; the HUD tracks local threat and operator or equipment status. Check before entering a dangerous point of interest and again when conditions change.
- Engaging increasingly capable enemies raises the local threat and can trigger hostile reinforcements.
- If a fight no longer serves the objective, break contact and take cover; the local threat falls when you do.
- Filling the hostiles-kill meter dispatches a Hunt Squad and marks your squad for death, so avoid unnecessary combat when the objective is already achievable.
- Radiation signals worsening conditions. Lingering after the objective makes the route more dangerous, so keep time in view as well as enemy positions.
How should I approach a defended compound or Lieutenant?
For a defended compound
Compounds are heavily defended and can offer improved loot and valuable intel. A loud approach or an unsecured, slow clear may draw more enemy forces. Consider a stealthier approach when it fits the objective, control the entry, and leave once the mission condition is met rather than extending the fight for optional loot.

For a Lieutenant hunt
Lieutenants are durable high-value targets with distinct combat behavior, so scout the area and decide before the fight whether you actually need the Dog Tag. Picking it up broadcasts the carrier’s position to every Operator. If taking the tag is required, shift directly toward a fast exfil instead of continuing unrelated objectives.

No exfil should be treated as safe by default. The standard sequence is to call the Twin Heli Exfil at an active site, hold the site until the helicopter arrives, then board. Exfil sites can be ambush points, and the flare is loud and visible over long distances.

- Check the route, surrounding threat, and nearby enemies before activating the site.
- Arrive ready to hold the point, but avoid starting the extraction earlier than needed.
- Defend only as long as necessary to board, then leave promptly.
- If carrying a Lieutenant’s Dog Tag, prioritize the fastest viable exit because the carrier’s location is exposed to every Operator.
The guide also lists a Fulton balloon or Flare as alternate extraction methods, but its Part 1 coverage does not specify their precise availability or mission conditions. Do not rely on either without checking what is available in your deployment.

How to choose between loadout options
When comparing possible setups, use these as planning questions rather than official ratings or tested weapon statistics:
- Objective fit: Does the equipment help complete the required task, or is it only general-purpose combat gear?
- Engagement coverage: Does the weapon mix suit close, medium, and longer sightlines on the planned route?
- Recovery flexibility: Can useful consumables and extra plates be accessed from the backpack?
- Exposure and exit cost: How much local threat, radiation pressure, Dog Tag visibility, and distance to a viable exfil will the plan create?
Activision’s October 5, 2026 guide is the current source for the MW4 Hajin mechanics covered here. It does not establish exact weapon recommendations, item stats, full slot counts, or a complete launch loadout catalog, so those details should not be treated as settled facts.
