As of October 17, 2026, you cannot enable DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy because the announced update is not scheduled until November 5, 2026. NVIDIA has confirmed DLSS Neural Rendering for GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark, but has not published the game’s menu path, toggle name or any DLSS 5 quality selector. Until the update arrives, treat online instructions that claim an existing Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 switch as unverified.

What is confirmed, and what is not

NVIDIA announced on October 13, 2026 that an update launching November 5 will add DLSS Neural Rendering to Hogwarts Legacy and update the game’s other DLSS technologies. The announcement is the current authoritative schedule: NVIDIA’s Hogwarts Legacy and RTX Spark announcement.

The date is a planned launch date, not proof that the feature is already present in every installation. Before November 5, there is no confirmed in-game procedure to follow. NVIDIA has not documented whether the setting will appear under Display, Graphics, Advanced Graphics or another menu; it has also not said whether a restart, a separate download or a particular game-build number will be required.

The announcement says that Avalanche Software used DLSS 5 SDK controls to tune the integration to the game’s artistic style. That describes the developer’s implementation goal, not an independent image-quality or frame-rate test. No Hogwarts Legacy benchmark is available in the cited material, so an exact FPS increase or a guaranteed visual improvement cannot be stated.

DLSS 5 is not the same setting as DLSS Quality or Performance

The most important source of confusion is that “DLSS 5” and “Quality” refer to different layers of NVIDIA’s technology. DLSS 5 is the generation of NVIDIA’s 3D-Guided Neural Rendering system announced in 2026. It is intended to add lighting and material detail by combining conventional rendering with a neural model. The Quality, Performance and Ultra Performance choices are modes of DLSS Super Resolution, a separate upscaling feature.

NVIDIA’s March 2026 overview explains the broader DLSS 5 technology and its developer controls: NVIDIA DLSS 5 technical announcement. NVIDIA’s feature list separately describes Super Resolution, DLAA, Ray Reconstruction, Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation: NVIDIA DLSS and GeForce RTX feature list.

Feature Primary purpose How it relates to DLSS 5
DLSS Neural Rendering Adds neural-rendered lighting and material detail as part of the announced DLSS 5 update. This is the Hogwarts Legacy feature scheduled for November 5, 2026.
DLSS Super Resolution Reconstructs a higher-resolution image from a lower-resolution render to increase performance. Its Quality, Performance and Ultra Performance modes are not DLSS 5 quality modes.
DLAA Uses the DLSS anti-aliasing approach at native resolution, prioritizing image quality rather than an upscaling performance gain. It is a separate option and should not be described as a DLSS 5 switch.
Ray Reconstruction Improves the reconstruction of ray-traced lighting. Hogwarts Legacy already supports it on GeForce RTX PCs and laptops according to NVIDIA; it is not the Neural Rendering toggle.
Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation Generate additional displayed frames to increase apparent fluidity. They affect generated frames, not the DLSS 5 Neural Rendering feature itself.

NVIDIA also describes a beta Frame Generation Preset C in its October announcement. That is a separate NVIDIA app Frame Generation model preset, not a Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 control. Selecting Preset C will not enable Neural Rendering in the game.

Where the November update is expected to work

NVIDIA names three platform categories for the Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 update. The announcement does not give a minimum RTX model, a complete list of laptop GPUs, regional cloud availability, subscription requirements or a guarantee that every RTX product will receive the feature.

  • Powered by GeForce RTX 5060
  • Integrated with 8GB GDDR7 128bit memory interface
  • PCIe 5.0
  • WINDFORCE cooling system
Platform named by NVIDIA What you need to know
GeForce RTX 50 Series PC or laptop A local system using RTX 50 Series hardware is one announced access path. NVIDIA does not identify a minimum card model in the announcement.
GeForce NOW NVIDIA lists its cloud-gaming service as a supported platform. The game update and feature availability are controlled by the service’s streamed game environment rather than by a local graphics-card upgrade.
RTX Spark NVIDIA lists RTX Spark as a supported platform. The announcement does not provide additional configuration, pricing or availability details.

Do not broaden this into a claim that every GeForce RTX GPU or every console and PC edition will receive DLSS 5. The cited announcement establishes only the platform categories above. It does say that GeForce RTX PCs and laptops already support Hogwarts Legacy’s DLSS Multi Frame Generation and Ray Reconstruction; the November update adds Neural Rendering and upgrades other DLSS technologies.

What to do before November 5

There is no hidden setting you need to unlock before the announced date. Use the waiting period to establish a clean baseline and make sure the update can install.

  1. Record your current game version. Open the Hogwarts Legacy information or properties screen in the PC launcher or cloud service you use and note the installed build number. The NVIDIA announcement does not specify the required post-update build, so the number is useful for comparing it with the official patch notes after November 5.
  2. Enable normal game updates. Leave automatic updating enabled in your platform, or check for updates on or after November 5. Avoid downloading unofficial DLL replacements, configuration files or “DLSS 5 unlockers”; no official pre-release toggle has been documented.
  3. Update the graphics driver through your normal NVIDIA-supported channel. A current driver can be sensible for a new game update, but NVIDIA has not published a Hogwarts Legacy-specific driver version in the announcement. Do not infer a required version from unrelated DLSS 5 demonstrations.
  4. Save your existing graphics settings. Write down your output resolution, Super Resolution mode, frame-generation choice, ray-tracing options and display refresh rate. This gives you a reproducible baseline when the patch arrives.
  5. Do not substitute RTX Remix instructions. NVIDIA’s RTX Remix documentation and examples concern the RTX Remix runtime and toolkit. They are developer or modding instructions, not a Hogwarts Legacy menu procedure.

How to verify and enable the feature after the update

The exact Hogwarts Legacy control is unpublished as of October 17. The following is a verification procedure, not a claim about the final menu labels.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Install the official November 5 update. Confirm that your launcher or cloud service reports the new game build, then read the accompanying official patch notes. If the update is delayed for your platform, there will be no in-game toggle to find yet.
  2. Open the game’s graphics settings. Look for a newly documented DLSS Neural Rendering or DLSS 5 entry, using the wording in the official notes. Do not assume that a menu item named DLSS, Super Resolution or Frame Generation is the new feature; those names can refer to older DLSS components.
  3. Apply the documented control and restart only if requested. NVIDIA has not said whether a restart is required. Follow the live game’s instruction rather than forcing a restart or editing configuration files.
  4. Confirm that the setting persisted. Leave the graphics menu, return to it and check that the selected Neural Rendering state remains enabled. If it resets, capture the game version and settings before contacting the game’s support channel.
  5. Set Super Resolution independently. Choose Quality, Performance or Ultra Performance according to your output resolution and performance needs. That choice controls Super Resolution scaling; it does not select a DLSS 5 neural-rendering quality level.
  6. Evaluate a repeatable scene. Use the same save location, camera movement, resolution and ray-tracing settings when comparing before and after. Check fine lighting, reflective surfaces, foliage and moving characters for stability, and check frame-time consistency rather than relying only on an average FPS counter.

If the post-update notes still do not document a toggle, do not invent a path from another game. Wait for an official Hogwarts Legacy guide or support clarification; NVIDIA’s announcement alone does not establish the control’s location.

Choosing the right Super Resolution mode

NVIDIA’s published recommendations are based on output resolution, not on a Hogwarts Legacy-specific test. Use them as starting points, then adjust for your hardware, refresh rate and tolerance for reconstruction artifacts.

Display output NVIDIA’s general starting mode Practical decision
1920×1080 (1080p) Quality Start at Quality. At 1080p, moving to a more aggressive mode can make fine text, hair and distant objects less stable; lower it only if performance remains inadequate.
2560×1440 (1440p) Quality Start at Quality and compare image stability during movement. Use Performance only when you need additional headroom.
3840×2160 (4K) Performance NVIDIA’s general guidance selects Performance at 4K, where rendering internally at a lower resolution can provide useful performance headroom.
7680×4320 (8K) Ultra Performance NVIDIA’s general guidance selects Ultra Performance at 8K. Expect this to be a demanding trade-off and judge the result on your display rather than assuming it is universally preferable.

These recommendations do not predict a particular frame rate, latency or visual result on a specific GPU, display or Hogwarts Legacy patch. NVIDIA has not published Hogwarts Legacy measurements for the table. If the image looks unstable, step toward a higher-quality mode or native-resolution DLAA where available; if the game cannot maintain your target refresh rate, step toward a more performance-oriented mode.

Use the output resolution, not the monitor’s maximum, as the reference

Choose the row that matches the resolution the game is actually rendering to. A 4K monitor running Hogwarts Legacy at 2560×1440 should be evaluated against the 1440p guidance, not the 4K row. Likewise, an 8K display running a lower in-game output should not automatically use Ultra Performance.

Separate image-quality and frame-generation decisions

Super Resolution changes the rendered input and reconstruction balance. Frame Generation and Multi Frame Generation create additional displayed frames. Enable or tune them separately, and judge responsiveness as well as the frame counter. A higher displayed frame rate does not by itself prove that Neural Rendering or Super Resolution is producing a better image.

A method for tuning without misleading comparisons

  1. Fix the variables. Keep resolution, HDR state, ray tracing, texture quality, motion blur, camera position and display refresh rate unchanged while comparing modes.
  2. Check static detail. Examine architecture, book pages, hair and foliage for shimmering, ghosting or loss of fine texture.
  3. Check motion. Pan the camera, ride through a detailed area and observe particles, reflections and character movement. Reconstruction defects often appear only during motion.
  4. Check frame pacing. Look for uneven delivery or stutter, not just the highest reported FPS. Frame-time consistency matters more than a single peak number.
  5. Change one setting at a time. If you change Super Resolution, Neural Rendering, ray tracing and Frame Generation together, you cannot identify which control caused an improvement or an artifact.
  6. Keep the mode that meets your target. There is no universal “best” preset. The correct choice is the highest image quality that sustains the refresh rate and responsiveness you want on your particular system.

Troubleshooting when DLSS 5 is missing or looks wrong

No DLSS 5 or Neural Rendering entry appears

  • Check the installed game build against the official November 5 patch information.
  • Confirm that your platform is one of the categories NVIDIA named: GeForce RTX 50 Series, GeForce NOW or RTX Spark.
  • Verify that the game, rather than only the graphics driver, has finished updating.
  • Do not assume that a generic DLSS, Super Resolution or Frame Generation entry is the new control.
  • If the live patch notes do not document a toggle, contact the game’s official support channel instead of editing files.

The game runs, but performance is still below target

  • Use the output-resolution table as a starting point and try the next more performance-oriented Super Resolution mode.
  • Reduce expensive ray-tracing options independently; Ray Reconstruction and Neural Rendering are separate technologies.
  • Check frame pacing and input response when using Frame Generation or Multi Frame Generation, not only the displayed FPS.
  • Do not transfer NVIDIA’s “up to” figures from other demonstrations to Hogwarts Legacy. The cited announcement’s 1.4× figure concerns the DLSS 5 model’s debut in NBA 2K27, while its RTX 5060 figure concerns Frame Generation Preset C; neither is a Hogwarts Legacy result.

The image shows shimmer, ghosting or unstable detail

  • Return to the prior Super Resolution mode and compare the same scene.
  • Test with Frame Generation disabled so you can isolate reconstruction artifacts from generated-frame artifacts.
  • Check that the game is using the intended output resolution and that dynamic resolution has not changed the test conditions.
  • Record the game build, driver version and settings before reporting the issue.

You are using GeForce NOW or RTX Spark

Those platforms are explicitly listed by NVIDIA, but the announcement does not specify their menu layout or rollout timing. Follow the platform’s current Hogwarts Legacy update notice and use only controls exposed in the live session. A local RTX 50 Series card is not stated to be mandatory for every announced platform.

Claims you should not rely on yet

NVIDIA’s October announcement does not establish a minimum GPU model, a universal RTX requirement, a Hogwarts Legacy-specific FPS uplift, a guaranteed image-quality improvement, a menu path, a toggle label, a restart requirement or selectable DLSS 5 quality modes. It also does not provide costs, regional availability or latency comparisons between local play, GeForce NOW and RTX Spark.

NVIDIA reports that its updated DLSS 5 model has a 24% smaller footprint, roughly 118 million parameters and 20% lower 4K VRAM usage, but those are general model-update figures, not measurements from Hogwarts Legacy. Keep them separate from decisions about this game.

Bottom line for October 2026

There is no confirmed way to turn on DLSS 5 in Hogwarts Legacy before the announced November 5, 2026 update. Once the update is live, verify the game build and official notes, use the newly documented Neural Rendering control if your platform is supported, and choose Super Resolution independently: Quality at 1080p or 1440p, Performance at 4K and Ultra Performance at 8K are NVIDIA’s general starting points. Treat every final choice as a system-specific balance, because no Hogwarts Legacy DLSS 5 benchmark or published quality selector exists yet.
