The DJI Osmo Action 6 and GoPro HERO13 Black suit different priorities, so neither is a universal winner. Choose the Action 6 for features such as its square sensor, variable aperture, built-in storage and higher stated waterproof depth; consider the HERO13 Black if you value GoPro’s HB-Series lenses, GPS data overlays, HLG HDR or an existing GoPro accessory setup. Match the camera to the footage and workflow you actually need, then compare current local prices for equivalent bundles.

These are listed capabilities, not proof that one camera will produce better footage in every scene. In particular, aperture and sensor size alone do not establish a low-light image-quality winner, and a headline frame rate is useful only when its resolution and mode suit the shot.

Pick the Action 6 for flexible framing and capture options
The Action 6’s square sensor and 4K Custom mode may be useful if you want to crop one recording for different aspect ratios. Before relying on that approach, confirm the camera mode and editing workflow you intend to use. DJI says downloading and editing 8K footage in Mimo is currently supported only on iPhone 15 Pro series and later; support for other devices is subject to future app updates. Pick HERO13 Black if its lens and data features matter to you
GoPro’s HB-Series lenses are the clearest ecosystem differentiator in the supplied specifications: the camera supports auto-detection for this lens system. That can make the HERO13 Black a better fit for someone who specifically wants those add-on lenses. Check which lens is sold separately and whether it suits the activity before buying. GoPro lists the HERO13 Black features.
GoPro also lists GPS/data overlays, 10-bit HLG HDR, Wi-Fi 6 and Burst Slo-Mo up to 400 fps at 720p. If you need a particular one of these, confirm the capture mode and your editing workflow rather than choosing on a feature label alone.

For low light or close-up subjects, treat specifications as clues
The Action 6’s 1/1.1-inch sensor and f/2.0 maximum aperture are relevant specifications for people considering low-light shooting, but they do not prove it will outperform the HERO13 Black under your conditions. The available material does not establish a matched-condition test that settles that question. For close-up work, DJI lists a focus range starting at 0.2 m at f/4.0 and describes its Macro Lens as an accessory; check focus distance and accessory requirements against your subject. Water use: ratings are not a dive plan
DJI specifies the Action 6 as waterproof to 20 m without a case. Tom’s Guide reports a 10 m rating for the HERO13 Black. Those figures are not permission to exceed the cameras’ manuals or evidence that either is suitable for every dive, impact or underwater environment. Read the current instructions for the exact camera and conditions.

DJI recommends using its Waterproof Case for long-term underwater shooting or high water-impact pressure, and warns against hot springs and extreme underwater environments. For diving, choose a housing and setup appropriate to the planned conditions rather than treating an unrated situation as covered by the depth figure. Battery, storage and editing workflow
Do not treat DJI’s maximum battery figure as a head-to-head result
DJI states a maximum operating time of 4 hours in a controlled test at 25°C, recording 1080p/24 with RockSteady on, Wi-Fi off and both screens off. DJI cautions that actual battery life varies. Check the full storage and phone workflow
The Action 6 has 50 GB of built-in storage and supports microSD cards up to 1 TB, according to DJI. If 8K mobile editing is part of your plan, account for DJI’s current Mimo limitation: DJI says 8K downloading and editing are supported only on iPhone 15 Pro series and later, with support for other devices subject to future app updates. Verify app compatibility before buying on the assumption that another phone can handle that workflow. DJI FAQ and DJI specifications.
Mounts, accessories and bundle value
Compare the mounts, batteries and extension rod included in the exact regional package you are considering; a camera-only price may not cover the setup your activity requires. DJI’s compatibility list names Action 6-specific parts and supported Osmo mounts. DJI also says its Quick-Release Adapter Mount can connect third-party action-camera accessories. The HERO13 Black still fits the HERO12 protective case and Media Mod, according to GoPro, but check compatibility separately for other accessories. Price and availability: check your country and package
Do not use launch-period prices as current October 2026 prices. TechRadar reported launch prices of £329 / AU$669 for the Action 6 Standard Combo and £415 / AU$839 for the Adventure Combo. The same launch-period review reported a November 18, 2025 global release and quoted DJI as saying the camera would not be officially available through its US websites following that launch. Those are historical statements, not evidence of current stock, authorized retailer availability or pricing. Should you replace your GoPro with an Action 6?
Switch if the Action 6’s square-sensor framing, variable aperture, built-in storage, listed recording modes or water rating solves a real need for you. Keep or choose the HERO13 Black if you rely on GoPro’s HB-Series lenses, GPS/data overlays, HLG HDR or compatible accessories. If neither set of differences changes your planned shots, compare the current local bundle price and the cost of any accessories you need before replacing a working camera.
