A Lakhovsky Multi-Wave Oscillator (MWO) is a historical electrical apparatus designed to emit multiple wavelengths. The 1934 U.S. patent describes insulated, concentric open rings energized by a high-frequency source; it does not establish a safe modern DIY plan or show that the device treats disease. This guide explains what the patents say, what remains unproven, and why a homemade unit should not be used on people.
What is a Lakhovsky Multi-Wave Oscillator?
Georges Lakhovsky’s Multi-Wave Oscillator was an electrical apparatus intended to send out different wavelengths at the same time. The original U.S. patent, US1962565A, “Apparatus with circuits oscillating under multiple wave lengths”, claims French priority from May 2, 1931, was filed in the United States on November 13, 1931, and was granted June 12, 1934.

Lakhovsky described the apparatus’s intended function this way: “The present invention has for its object an apparatus capable of sending out simultaneously different wave lengths so that among these waves or their harmonics there is found almost always one or several capable of producing the best effect sought for any application Whatever.” This is the inventor’s statement of purpose in a patent, not a clinical finding.

The 1934 patent’s radiator consists of insulated open rings with different diameters, arranged concentrically. It allows the rings to occupy one or more planes and says they may be made from solid or tubular conductors. Small spheres at the ring ends are described as forming capacitances. The rings are excited by a high-frequency source; the patent gives a transformer, high-frequency circuit, inductance, capacitance and spark gap as an example.

The patent does not establish one correct ring size, provide a complete parts list, or specify a safe DIY implementation. Copper tubing is consistent with the patent’s mention of tubular conductors, but that limited material match should not be mistaken for a validated kit or recommendation to build a device for human use.
How did the design change in a later patent?
A later patent, US2351055A, “Tube for producing multiple wave lengths”, was filed November 21, 1941, and granted June 13, 1944. It describes a tube-form approach and states an aim of simplifying the apparatus for wider use. It documents a later design proposal and its intentions; it does not establish that the apparatus is effective or safe.

Can you build an MWO at home?
The patents are historical technical documents, not step-by-step instructions for a safe modern project. In particular, the original apparatus involves high-frequency electrical circuits, and the later patent’s interest in making a device easier for people with limited electrical skill is not a substitute for present-day safety engineering.

- Do not treat the patent as a wiring diagram: it does not provide a complete, validated DIY design or define a safe human-exposure setup.
- Do not use a homemade device on yourself or others: the reviewed material does not establish that exposure is medically useful or safe.
- For any real apparatus, seek qualified electrical review: professional review may address electrical hazards, but it does not make the device a medical treatment.
Does a Lakhovsky MWO work as a medical treatment?
Historical advocates and modern proponents have attributed effects on cancer and other conditions to MWO exposure. Those are proponents’ claims, not established treatment outcomes. A modern source-critical archive states, “The Lakhovsky coil is not a proven medical treatment” (Lakhovsky Coil).

No attributable clinical effectiveness statistic is established in the reviewed sources: there is no supported percentage, patient count, effect size or success rate to report. Patent language and anecdotal accounts, including those compiled in Thomas J. Brown’s handbook, are not substitutes for controlled clinical evidence.

For example, Lakhovsky.com describes its instrument as an “experimental, historical research instrument” and says it is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or mitigate illness or disease. That disclaimer belongs to the seller; it is not an independent scientific evaluation, and the page’s explanations remain seller claims.
