DisplayPort 1.4 prend-il en charge 360 Hz ? Résolutions, DSC et matériel compatible

Oui, DisplayPort 1.4 peut prendre en charge 360 Hz, mais la réponse dépend de la résolution, du format couleur et de chaque maillon de la connexion. En 1080p, 360 Hz est généralement accessible avec un lien HBR3. En 1440p, le mode 360 Hz nécessite habituellement la compression DSC (Display Stream Compression). En 4K, DisplayPort 1.4 devient très contraignant et une interface plus récente est souvent préférable.

Ce tableau donne une règle pratique, pas une certification universelle. La fiche technique du moniteur doit confirmer le mode exact, notamment la profondeur de couleur et le HDR.

Pourquoi la bande passante limite le 360 Hz

DisplayPort 1.4 utilise le mode HBR3, annoncé à 32,4 Gbit/s bruts. Avec l’encodage 8b/10b, le débit utile est d’environ 25,92 Gbit/s. Les caractéristiques de l’interface et de ses générations sont récapitulées par la FAQ officielle de VESA et les exigences de conformité HBR3 sont publiées par VESA Compliance.

À titre d’explication, le flux de pixels actifs en RGB 8 bits représente environ 17,92 Gbit/s en 1920 × 1080 à 360 Hz, contre environ 31,85 Gbit/s en 2560 × 1440 à 360 Hz. Ces calculs n’incluent pas tous les intervalles de blanking ni les éléments supplémentaires du signal : ils montrent pourquoi le 1080p tient généralement sans compression, tandis que le 1440p dépasse le débit utile non compressé.

Le libellé DP 1.4 ne garantit pas HBR3

Un appareil peut être vendu comme DisplayPort 1.4 tout en exposant une implémentation HBR2. BenQ documente des modèles DP 1.4 avec HDR10 qui ne prennent pas en charge HBR3 ; consultez son explication technique. Vérifiez donc séparément la présence de HBR3, le débit maximal et la liste des modes supportés.

Le rôle de la DSC en 1440p à 360 Hz

La Display Stream Compression réduit le débit nécessaire pour transporter un signal très haute résolution et très haute fréquence. VESA et NVIDIA la décrivent comme une compression visuellement sans perte : cela ne correspond pas à une forte compression d’image, même si cette caractérisation technique ne garantit pas que chaque observateur ne percevra jamais aucune différence.

NVIDIA détaille la DSC sur DisplayPort 1.4 et ses effets possibles dans sa documentation de support. Certains moniteurs permettent de désactiver la DSC, mais cette option peut faire disparaître les résolutions ou fréquences maximales.

  • L’ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDNG annonce 2560 × 1440 à 360 Hz avec DisplayPort 1.4 et DSC.
  • Le MSI MPG 271QRX QD-OLED annonce jusqu’à 2560 × 1440 à 360 Hz via DisplayPort 1.4a et HDMI 2.1.
  • La fiche du HP OMEN 25 indique 1920 × 1080 à 360 Hz via DisplayPort avec DSC activée, même si le 1080p est moins exigeant en débit.

Quel matériel faut-il vérifier ?

GPU et ordinateur

Le GPU doit fournir le débit DisplayPort requis et, pour un mode dépendant de la DSC, prendre en charge la DSC. NVIDIA documente cette prise en charge à partir des GPU GeForce de classe Turing, notamment les séries RTX 20 et GTX 16, ainsi que les générations ultérieures. Cette indication ne remplace pas la fiche du modèle : les cartes AMD, Intel, les ordinateurs portables et les sorties USB-C ou Thunderbolt doivent être vérifiés séparément.

Écran

Recherchez une mention explicite telle que « 1920 × 1080 à 360 Hz via DisplayPort » ou « 2560 × 1440 à 360 Hz, DisplayPort 1.4 + DSC ». Vérifiez aussi si le 360 Hz est limité au 8 bits, au SDR ou à un format couleur particulier.

Câble

Utilisez d’abord le câble fourni lorsqu’il est spécifié pour le mode annoncé. Sinon, choisissez un câble DisplayPort certifié VESA adapté au HBR3 et évitez les modèles très longs ou de qualité inconnue. Un exemple de câble DP 1.4 HBR3 certifié est documenté par Club 3D. La certification, la longueur et la qualité réelle comptent davantage qu’une simple inscription « DP 1.4 ».

Connexion directe

Pour le premier test, reliez l’écran directement au GPU. Un dock USB-C, une station d’accueil ou un adaptateur peut réduire le nombre de voies disponibles ou ne pas transporter la DSC. Les capacités de DisplayPort Alt Mode sur USB-C dépendent de l’implémentation, comme l’explique VESA.

Activer 360 Hz sous Windows

  1. Ouvrez Paramètres > Système > Affichage.
  2. Sélectionnez l’écran concerné, puis ouvrez Affichage avancé.
  3. Choisissez 360 Hz si le taux est proposé. Les intitulés peuvent varier selon la version de Windows.
  4. Dans le panneau du GPU, sélectionnez la résolution dans la section PC lorsqu’il existe plusieurs entrées, puis testez 360 Hz.
  5. Pour isoler un problème, essayez RGB, plage dynamique complète, 8 bpc, puis désactivez temporairement le HDR. Les menus exacts varient selon le pilote.

Confirmez ensuite le signal entrant dans l’OSD du moniteur, Windows et le panneau du GPU. La capacité annoncée d’un écran ne signifie pas que le système utilise actuellement 360 Hz.

Que faire si 360 Hz n’apparaît pas ?

  1. Essayez un autre câble DisplayPort certifié.
  2. Changez de port DisplayPort sur le GPU, puis sur l’écran.
  3. Sélectionnez la résolution native exacte du moniteur.
  4. Activez la DSC dans le menu de l’écran si une option existe.
  5. Réduisez temporairement la profondeur de couleur et désactivez le HDR.
  6. Mettez à jour le pilote graphique.
  7. Retirez tout dock, adaptateur ou intermédiaire et branchez directement le GPU.
  8. Réinitialisez les réglages du moniteur.

Un câble inadapté ou une négociation HBR3/DSC défaillante peut provoquer un écran noir, du scintillement, un retour à 240 Hz ou la disparition du mode 360 Hz.

DisplayPort 1.4 ou HDMI 2.1 ?

En 1080p à 360 Hz, DisplayPort 1.4 est généralement suffisant. En 1440p à 360 Hz, DP 1.4 avec DSC convient si l’écran et le GPU le prennent en charge. HDMI 2.1 peut être une alternative, mais les ports d’un même écran ne proposent pas forcément les mêmes modes : vérifiez la fiche technique du port utilisé. Pour la 4K à 240 Hz ou davantage, examinez en priorité DP 2.x/UHBR ou HDMI 2.1, ainsi que les restrictions liées à la DSC, au HDR et au 10 bits.

Cas particuliers à connaître

10 bits, HDR et fréquence maximale

Un écran peut réserver 360 Hz au 8 bits ou au SDR. Passer en 10 bits ou activer le HDR peut réduire la fréquence disponible, imposer la DSC ou modifier le format couleur.

Configurations multi-écrans

NVIDIA indique que certains modes DSC utilisent plusieurs « internal heads » du GPU, ce qui peut influencer le nombre d’écrans connectables simultanément.

Performances en jeu

Un écran 360 Hz n’oblige pas un jeu à produire 360 images par seconde. Le taux réellement utile dépend aussi du GPU, du moteur du jeu et des réglages graphiques.

Le DisplayPort 1.4 suffit-il toujours pour 1080p à 360 Hz ?

Pas toujours. Le mode est généralement accessible, mais l’écran, le GPU, le câble, le mode couleur et parfois la DSC doivent tous l’autoriser.

Peut-on utiliser 1440p à 360 Hz sans DSC avec DisplayPort 1.4 ?

En RGB 8 bits, le débit de pixels actifs dépasse le débit utile HBR3. Les implémentations 1440p à 360 Hz en DP 1.4 utilisent donc généralement la DSC.

Faut-il acheter un câble DisplayPort 2.1 pour un écran DP 1.4 ?

Non. Un câble certifié adapté au HBR3 et au mode de l’écran suffit généralement ; une étiquette plus récente ne crée pas à elle seule un débit supplémentaire.

Verdict : DisplayPort 1.4 prend bien en charge 360 Hz en 1080p dans la plupart des configurations. En 1440p, choisissez un écran et un GPU compatibles DSC et vérifiez HBR3, le câble et le mode couleur. Pour la 4K à très haute fréquence, DP 2.x ou HDMI 2.1 est souvent un choix plus réaliste.
