It is available today, has a documented free-to-play model, and already contains Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars experiences. The “new Disney game” is not yet a released, named game: it is an unnamed Disney–Epic collaboration that has reportedly been delayed, with its final design, price and release date still unconfirmed as of October 18, 2026.
Reports describe a possible Disney-character extraction shooter, but Epic says that description does not reflect the collaboration’s ambitions. That makes this a comparison between a playable platform and a project to watch, not a conventional game-versus-game review.

What is Disney’s new Fortnite game?
“Disney’s new Fortnite game” refers to an unnamed project being developed through the Disney–Epic Games partnership. It does not have a confirmed public title, launch date, platform list, age rating or complete feature sheet.

In the reported format, players would fight enemies, collect what they need and reach an extraction point to finish a run. The report compared the concept with Arc Raiders and said some internal reviewers questioned whether the mechanics were sufficiently original.

Epic senior director of global communications Liz Markman disputed that framing. She said the extraction-shooter description was “not reflective of the ambitions of the Disney collaboration” and described Epic’s work as “a new games and entertainment universe of Disney experiences.” Those statements are the clearest public indication that the reported shooter may describe only one part of a larger plan, or may not represent the final game at all.
On October 12, 2026, Bloomberg reported that the collaboration shooter had been delayed. It had reportedly been planned for March 2027, but Epic asked the team to adopt an AI-first production process and moved the launch to an unspecified date. This is reported development information, not an official Disney release announcement.

What Epic and Disney have officially established
An open, persistent and social universe
Epic’s 2024 partnership announcement said the companies intended to create an “open, persistent and social universe” connected to Fortnite. Disney also invested $1.5 billion in Epic as part of that partnership. The wording describes a long-term ecosystem rather than a single conventional release. It leaves room for games, social spaces, events and user-created experiences, but it does not prove that every reported feature will ship.

The partnership is already producing Fortnite content
The collaboration is not waiting for a separate Disney-branded game to exist. Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars content already operates inside Fortnite through official collaborations and experiences. Disney’s 2026 Star Wars announcement also showed the partnership progressing through new Fortnite experiences and official creation toolkits.
That distinction matters. If you want Disney characters or themed activities today, Fortnite is the confirmed product. The unnamed project is a future possibility within the same corporate strategy.

How the reported Disney project might play
The extraction-shooter concept
In an extraction shooter, a match normally asks you to enter a dangerous area, fight computer-controlled or human opponents, gather valuable equipment and decide when to leave. Reaching the extraction point preserves the rewards from that run; being defeated before extraction can put progress or collected items at risk. The April report attributed this general structure to the Disney project, but no final rules, map design, progression system or player-count details have been confirmed.
There is no public demonstration establishing how Disney characters would affect the loop. They could be playable heroes, narrative figures, cosmetic identities or something else entirely. The report does not establish a roster, abilities, weapons, camera perspective, solo or squad structure, or whether the project would share progression with Fortnite.

Why the description remains uncertain
Internal concerns about originality were part of the April reporting, while Epic publicly rejected the idea that the extraction-shooter description captured the collaboration’s ambition. Until Disney or Epic publishes a title and feature list, it is safer to treat “Disney extraction shooter” as a reported working direction, not a confirmed product definition.
What you can actually do in Fortnite now
Play across several modes
Fortnite is a platform with multiple modes rather than one fixed ruleset. Its current offering includes competitive and cooperative experiences as well as creator-built islands. The practical advantage is variety: a player interested in shooting, social play, experiments or licensed events can remain in one ecosystem instead of waiting for a separate Disney release.
Visit official Disney-related experiences
Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars collaborations already appear in Fortnite. The exact lineup changes over time, so a particular character, event or island should be checked in the current Fortnite client rather than assumed to be permanently available. The existence of these collaborations is documented; it does not mean every Disney property is present at once.

Use creator-made islands
Epic and Disney have documented a creator ecosystem in which developers build islands and publish interactive experiences. Star Wars creation toolkits announced in 2026 are evidence of the partnership’s direction: Disney’s intellectual property can be used in structured Fortnite experiences rather than only in character cosmetics.
That ecosystem is already usable. By contrast, there is no public editor, island template or developer program that confirms how the unnamed Disney project will handle user-generated content.
Availability, platforms and release timing
Fortnite: available now
Disney Parks describes Fortnite as free to play with in-game purchases. You can therefore start without buying the game itself, although optional purchases are part of the platform’s business model. Fortnite’s current availability is the strongest practical reason to choose it over an unreleased alternative.
Disney project: no locked launch date
The project reportedly targeted March 2027 before being delayed. The replacement date was not specified in the October 12, 2026 report. No confirmed platform list, regional rollout, early-access schedule or age rating has been announced publicly in the available information.
Do not treat March 2027 as a reservation, preorder date or commitment. It is a superseded reported plan.

Monetization: what is known and what is not
Fortnite’s player-facing model
Fortnite is free to start and offers optional in-game purchases. The available description does not establish that every mode, island or future event will use identical purchase rules, so the safest summary is a free-to-play platform with transactions available inside it.
Creator payouts and V-Bucks
Epic’s creator monetization documentation says developers ordinarily receive 50% of the V-Bucks value generated by items sold in their islands. Epic announced a temporary 100% rate running from December 2025 through the end of 2026. The 100% figure is therefore a time-limited 2025 announcement covering that stated period, not a permanent payout policy.
These percentages concern creator revenue allocation, not a discount for players and not the amount a player necessarily pays for an item. V-Bucks are Fortnite’s virtual currency, and the value-sharing rule applies to qualifying in-island sales under Epic’s program.
The Disney project’s economy is unannounced
There is no confirmed price, battle pass, cosmetic store, V-Bucks requirement or other transaction structure for the unnamed project. Fortnite’s existing economy cannot be used as proof of the future game’s final monetization, even though both projects are associated with Disney and Epic.
A future Disney experience could use Fortnite’s established systems, a separate economy or a mixture of approaches. Until an official announcement gives the terms, any claim about free access, subscriptions, loot boxes, battle passes or paid characters would be speculation.

Which is better for different kinds of players?
Choose Fortnite if you want to play immediately
- You want a product that is available now rather than a project with an unspecified launch date.
- You value several modes and a large supply of creator-made islands.
- You want documented Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars collaborations today.
- You prefer a known free-to-play structure with optional purchases.
- You want an established platform whose current features can be verified in the client.
Watch the Disney project if the premise is the main attraction
- You are specifically interested in a Disney-character extraction-shooter concept.
- You are willing to wait while the design, production schedule and business model change.
- You want to see whether Epic’s broader “Disney experiences” vision becomes a distinct game rather than another Fortnite experience.
Do not choose based on unverified advantages
There is no public basis for declaring the Disney project better for gunplay, balance, performance, graphics, accessibility or fun. It is not publicly playable, and no hands-on testing supports those comparisons. Fortnite has the advantage in certainty and access, not a proven advantage in every design category.
Decision guide by priority
| If your priority is… | Better fit today | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate play | Fortnite | The platform is available now. |
| Disney content right now | Fortnite | Official Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars experiences already exist there. |
| A dedicated extraction-shooter premise | Wait and monitor the Disney project | The concept has been reported, but it is not confirmed or released. |
| Transparent current pricing information | Fortnite | Its free-to-play and in-game-purchase model is documented. |
| Knowing the final feature list before committing | Fortnite | The Disney project has no complete public specification. |
| Creator-made content | Fortnite | Creator islands and related toolkits are already documented. |
Questions that remain unanswered
Several details should be treated as open questions rather than missing minor specifications:
- What is the official title?
- Will the project be a standalone game, a Fortnite experience, or a connected product spanning both?
- Which Disney, Pixar, Marvel or Star Wars characters and settings will appear?
- Will the reported extraction loop survive into the final design?
- What platforms, regions and age rating will be supported?
- Will progression, accounts or purchases carry over from Fortnite?
- Will access be free, paid, subscription-based or mixed?
- Will there be a battle pass, cosmetic shop, creator economy or V-Bucks integration?
- When will the delayed project launch?
None of these points has a confirmed answer in the information currently available. A future press release, gameplay presentation or store listing could change the comparison quickly.
How to follow the project without confusing reports with facts
- Look for an announcement from Disney or Epic that gives the project an official name.
- Check whether the announcement identifies a product type: standalone game, Fortnite island, or broader connected experience.
- Separate a reported target date from a confirmed release date, especially after the reported delay from March 2027.
- Read the monetization terms for the specific product instead of importing Fortnite’s current rules.
- Wait for public gameplay before judging combat, balance, performance or originality.
Bottom line: Fortnite wins the comparison for now
Fortnite is the better choice for anyone who wants to play today, access established Disney-related content, explore creator-made islands and understand the current free-to-play economy. The unnamed Disney–Epic project is worth watching if its reported Disney-character extraction premise appeals to you, but its title, design, launch timing and monetization remain unsettled.
The most accurate verdict is therefore time-dependent: Fortnite is the practical winner on availability, certainty, breadth and transparency as of October 18, 2026. The future Disney project could become a more focused alternative, but it has not yet released enough information—or a playable build—to earn that verdict.
