Gameloft’s Pixel Perfect Update notes, published July 29, 2026, also introduce Item Assist at Friendship Level 7: a villager can gather an item related to their base role from an unlocked biome. If this feature is relevant to how you play, consider the activity and items you want that villager to support.
For one narrower mechanic, the community-maintained Bonuses reference reports that when a mining companion multiplies a resource bonus at a rock spot, the bonus is applied to the last item yielded. This is wiki-reported detail, not a claim from Gameloft’s official notes.

Can you change a villager’s role later?
Yes. Gameloft’s Pixel Perfect Update notes say Training Manuals can change any villager’s role at any level. Your assignment is therefore revisable under the current official guidance; you do not need to treat an early choice as permanent.
