Guardians can see certain activity details and selected settings, but they cannot read the teen’s messages. Discord’s November 5, 2025 update added weekly purchase totals, call minutes, frequent contacts and servers, optional report notifications, and some guardian-managed controls.
What Discord Family Center does
Family Center links a teen’s Discord account with a parent or guardian account. It is designed to help families discuss activity and safety settings while preserving the teen’s privacy and autonomy. The teen chooses to connect, and the connection can be disconnected.

A teen can connect up to three parents or guardians. Discord says the teen can see the same Family Center information shown to the guardian, making the shared view transparent rather than covert.
What changed in the November 2025 update
Discord announced the update on November 5, 2025. It expanded the activity details available for linked accounts and added optional notifications and controls:
#1 Best Overall
- Weekly activity details: total purchases during the previous week; minutes spent in voice and video calls, including calls in direct messages, group direct messages, and servers; and the five users and five servers the teen most frequently messaged or called.
- Optional report notification: after submitting a report, a teen may choose to notify a guardian. The email notification does not include report details.
- Selected guardian-managed settings: controls cover who may send the teen direct messages, sensitive-content filtering, and certain data-privacy settings.
The weekly figures and top-five lists describe product features, not evidence that Family Center prevents harm or improves safety outcomes. Discord’s November 5, 2025 announcement says the changes are intended to give guardians more tools while keeping teens involved in decisions.
What parents and guardians can see
Family Center provides activity information rather than a transcript of conversations. Depending on the available view, guardians may see recently added friends, servers the teen joined or participated in, and users the teen messaged or called, along with display names, avatars, and timing information. The expanded weekly view adds the totals and frequent users and servers described above.

Discord’s current support guidance also describes activity-feed, spending-cap, downtime, and submitted-report areas. The exact details available can depend on the Family Center view and current Discord features. Discord’s teen guidance and guardian guidance explain the respective views.

How to set up Family Center
- On Discord, open User Settings > Family Center.
- Have the teen and guardian follow the account-linking steps shown there. The teen must agree to connect the accounts.
- If the guardian prefers, use Discord’s web flow; the guardian does not have to install the mobile app to connect.
- Once linked, review the activity view and any available settings together. Discuss which controls make sense for the teen and family rather than treating them as hidden monitoring.
Discord’s update announcement describes both users starting from User Settings > Family Center; the current teen help page also documents a web connection flow for guardians. Menu labels or steps may change as Discord updates its safety features.
Privacy, controls, and disconnecting
Family Center’s boundary is a trade-off: guardians get context about activity and some safety settings, but not the contents of private conversations. That can support informed check-ins without turning the feature into message surveillance. The report notification is also the teen’s choice, not an automatic alert containing report details.

Families can review the available controls together, including direct-message permissions, sensitive-content filtering, certain data-privacy settings, spending limits, and downtime where those options are available. The teen can disconnect the accounts. Discord’s current teen documentation says a connection is automatically removed when the teen’s age group changes to adult.

When Family Center may be useful
- It can give a guardian a high-level view of new connections, servers, and activity without exposing message text.
- It can provide a starting point for a conversation about call time, spending, or account settings.
- It is not a substitute for talking with a teen, responding to a specific safety concern, or reviewing Discord’s other account and safety tools.
- It is optional; it should not be described as mandatory or as a guarantee against abuse or other risks.
Discord’s Safety News Hub says additional updates are planned, so families should consult Discord’s current help pages if the settings or navigation differ from the steps above.
