There are no verified cheat codes or documented code-entry screen for Dinosaur Fossil Hunter in the official material available from the game’s Steam listing, Pyramid Games’ published tips, and its Steam announcements. Instead of risking fake console commands or unlock codes, use the game’s documented shortcuts: keep the map open, prepare fuel and equipment at the hub, choose a vehicle for the terrain, identify bones before cleaning them, and invest in the correct progression system.
Dinosaur Fossil Hunter is a single-player paleontology simulation from Pyramid Games, published on Steam by Pyramid Games and PlayWay S.A. It released on May 4, 2022. You explore dig sites, recover and prepare fossils, assemble skeletons, and develop a museum. The advice below follows a developer-authored guide published on Xbox Wire on August 14, 2024, so button labels and interface details can differ by platform or later build.

Are there Dinosaur Fossil Hunter cheats or codes?
The official Steam product description, the August 14, 2024 Xbox Wire guide by Pyramid Games CEO Jacek Wyszyński, and the developer’s Steam news posts do not document a working cheat code, console command, secret password, or code-entry menu. That means you should not enter random strings found on unverified pages or assume that a command from another game works here. The accurate answer is narrower: no verified codes were found in those official sources. That is not proof that every unofficial claim on every platform is impossible, but there is no supported code system to rely on.

What the game includes and why version matters
The core loop is deliberately broader than digging. You travel from a hub to an area, search the environment, excavate and identify bones, prepare them for display, and use exhibits to grow a museum. The Steam listing also identifies a Collector’s Edition containing the base game plus the Designer and Raptor DLC. Store-page features can change: the listing showed 15 interface or subtitle languages and 83 achievements when checked on October 13, 2026, while its review snapshot showed 826 reviews with 76% positive ratings. Those figures are storefront snapshots, not permanent performance guarantees.
Pyramid Games placed PC update v2.5 on the default branch on March 4, 2024, then announced patch v2.5.11 on March 27, 2024. In a December 10, 2025 Steam announcement, the studio said that after the March 2024 PC update it shifted focus to Occupy Mars. These are dated development statements; they do not establish that every console or PC interface currently behaves identically. If a button name differs from the instructions below, look for the equivalent tablet, vehicle, or hub command in your build.
Prepare every expedition at the hub
Most wasted time comes from leaving before the vehicle and excavation kit are ready. The departure reminder exists to stop exactly that mistake. Use this checklist before you drive away:
- Collect the excavation equipment you expect to use. The hub is where gear can be packed and collected.
- Refuel vehicles and any equipment that consumes fuel. Some locations also require generators or pumps, especially under particular weather or site conditions.
- Check the tablet map and mark the dig site, fuel-canister locations, and any special find you intend to revisit.
- Choose a vehicle at the hub’s laptop based on the route’s surface and the amount of material you must transport.
- Keep a margin of fuel for searching and the return journey rather than budgeting only for the shortest route.
If you forget fuel, open the map and look for the green dispenser symbol that marks a fuel-canister location. That emergency option is safer than abandoning a trip, but it is still slower than refilling before departure.
Keep the tablet map open while walking
The developer’s most useful navigation trick is to press the button that opens the tablet twice. The second press lets you move with the map visible instead of repeatedly stopping to reopen it. Use that view to maintain orientation, watch your marked dig sites, and compare your position with nearby paths.

- Open the tablet once to bring up the map.
- Press the tablet or map button a second time to keep the map visible while moving.
- Place markers on the planned excavation area and on special locations you discover.
- Remove or update markers as a site is completed so the map remains readable on the next trip.
This is also the quickest way to avoid walking past a useful detour. The guide recommends examining the map and the surrounding terrain for collectibles, special fossils, plants, and dinosaur eggs rather than treating the marked dig site as the only objective.
Find more than the marked fossil site
A marked site is a destination, not a boundary. Search around it for unplanned discoveries and decorative resources. Distinctive plants can be photographed for possible museum decoration, while special fossils and eggs may be separate from the main excavation objective. Scan the edges of paths, clearings, and alternate routes before returning to the vehicle.

When weather, mud, or a blocked trail slows you down, check whether the obstacle is removable or avoidable. Trees and boulders can be cleared in places; mud cannot be solved by forcing the same line with the wrong setup. The developer specifically advises taking a designated alternate path when that is safer than trying to push through.
Choose and control the vehicle for the terrain
Vehicles are not interchangeable. They have different transport and off-road properties, so the best choice depends on whether the trip emphasizes carrying capacity, rough ground, or a short paved connection between hubs and a dig. Select the vehicle through the laptop at the hub before departure.

Read the pop-up hints and use the tablet’s Knowledge tab
Pop-up hints explain fossil handling and equipment use. They can be revisited, so dismissing one does not permanently remove the information. Read each hint the first time a tool or activity appears; many apparent “cheat” requests are really questions about an unfamiliar interaction.
After you recover a bone, inspect it before sending it into a cleaning or assembly workflow. Identification helps you select the correct set. The tablet’s Knowledge tab records collected bones, where they were found, skeleton progress, and whether a specimen has been cleaned. Use that record to decide which site to revisit and which set is close to completion rather than digging randomly.
A reliable excavation-to-museum workflow
Use this repeatable route when you want steady progress without backtracking:
- Plan at the hub. Refill fuel, collect the excavation gear, select the vehicle, and mark the site and any known fuel-canister locations.
- Travel with the map visible. Keep the tablet open while walking and add markers for eggs, special fossils, plants, or a promising side path.
- Secure the site. Use the equipment indicated by the pop-up hints instead of improvising with a tool intended for another stage.
- Excavate carefully. Once a bone is unearthed, identify it and record its status in the Knowledge tab.
- Clear the route. Remove a tree or boulder when the game allows it, or take the alternate path rather than burning fuel in mud.
- Return with a purpose. Bring back the material needed for a skeleton or exhibit, and note anything that still requires a second trip.
- Clean and assemble. Use the appropriate cleaning and preparation steps, then track the remaining bones in the tablet.
- Place the exhibit. Add the finished skeleton and supporting decoration, then use the resulting prestige to expand the museum and unlock help.
Prestige and skill points are different upgrades
Do not confuse museum prestige with personal skill points. They come from different activities and improve different parts of the game.

If your immediate problem is slow hands-on work, spend attention on the relevant personal skill. If your problem is repeated supply runs, cleaning queues, or limited museum capacity, build stronger exhibits and pursue prestige instead.

Use staff and drones when progression unlocks them
Later progression replaces repetitive travel and labor with automation. The developer’s guide names several forms of assistance:
- Drones can deliver empty crates or transport unearthed fossils to the museum.
- Fast travel can connect a hub and an excavation site, reducing routine driving.
- Museum workers can clean bones for you.
- Refueling drones can handle fuel delivery.
- Other staff can perform recurring jobs, including sending supplies or fuel.
These are not cheat codes; they are earned efficiency upgrades tied to museum growth. Prestige therefore has a compounding benefit: an exhibit does more than occupy a room, because the resulting access to staff can shorten future expeditions and free you to search for rarer finds.

The museum has no single mandatory layout. Wyszyński wrote, “There’s no single way to complete the game, and no universal recipe for your museum.” You can rearrange or remove items and delete an exhibit if a design no longer works.
Species from different terrains and eras can be combined in an exhibit. Dinosaur poses are customizable, and water features offer several choices, including depth, color, shape, and bottom type. Treat the first arrangement as a draft: place the skeleton, add the required decorative elements, and revise the composition when you unlock a better room or find a plant that fits the scene. Because decorative plants, rocks, and soil contribute to prestige, design decisions can support progression as well as appearance.

You are stranded without fuel
Open the map and look for the green dispenser icon that marks a fuel-canister location. If the route is still too far, retrace your marked path on foot rather than repeatedly attempting a muddy climb. On the next expedition, refill at the hub and reserve fuel for exploration and the return leg.

The vehicle is stuck in mud
Stop spinning the wheels. Engage 4×4 and the differential lock, then try a controlled exit. If the surface remains impassable, use the map to identify a designated alternate route. Vehicle choice and route planning matter more than holding the accelerator longer.
You cannot find the next bone
Check the Knowledge tab for the skeleton’s collected bones, locations, and cleaning status. Then compare that information with your map markers. The missing piece may be at a different location or may already be recovered but not cleaned, so do not assume another excavation is required.
You keep returning to the hub for equipment
Follow the departure reminder: collect the excavation gear at the hub, refuel, and verify the vehicle before leaving. Mark the site and nearby supplies while the map is open so the trip has a clear objective.
You are unsure which upgrade to buy
Match the upgrade to the bottleneck. Choose digging, chiseling, or cleaning skills when manual work is the delay. Build prestige when you need rooms, decorations, staff, or automated deliveries. The two systems solve different problems and should not be treated as interchangeable currency.
What “cheat” sites often get wrong
Be cautious with pages that promise a universal unlock code, an invisible console, or an instant museum-prestige command. None of those methods is documented in the official sources identified above. A claim that a code works may refer to a different game, an old build, a mod, or an unverified anecdote. Using third-party executables can also corrupt saves or compromise a computer, while the documented in-game systems are designed to preserve normal progression.
The dependable shortcuts are visible in the game itself: map markers, the double-press map view, fuel planning, appropriate vehicle controls, alternate routes, Knowledge-tab tracking, skill upgrades, prestige, staff, drones, and fast travel.
Bottom line for Dinosaur Fossil Hunter players
Do not plan around a secret code. Plan around a prepared expedition. Leave the hub with fuel and equipment, keep the map open, search beyond the marked site, use 4×4 and differential lock in mud, identify bones before cleaning, and track skeleton progress in Knowledge. Build exhibits to raise prestige and unlock staff, while personal skill points make your own digging, chiseling, cleaning, and underwater work faster. That route delivers the practical advantages players usually seek from cheats while staying within the game’s documented progression.
