The differences are not small enough to silently combine. Dimplex appears to have issued documents for different markets or revisions. Before buying parts or relying on a technical limit, photograph the rating plate on your machine and match it to the manual for that exact unit.

Cooling capacity and room-size claim
What 3.2 kW means
The 3.2 kW figure is the cooling-capacity rating published by Dimplex and repeated in CHOICE’s listing. It is useful for comparing the nominal size of portable units, but it does not guarantee that every room will reach the same temperature. Portable air conditioners lose effectiveness when hot air leaks around doors and windows, when the exhaust hose is poorly sealed, or when the room receives substantial direct sun.
Interpreting the 15–23 m² range
Dimplex’s sheet gives a 15–23 m² room range. Treat that as a sizing claim rather than a measured result. A shaded, reasonably sealed 15 m² bedroom is a less demanding target than a sun-exposed 23 m² living room with high ceilings. Open-plan spaces, adjoining rooms and frequent door opening also increase the heat load beyond the simple floor-area number.
Measure the room’s usable floor area before purchase. If the space is larger than the stated range or unusually sunny, compare independently measured output from currently available models instead of assuming that the 3.2 kW label will overcome the extra load.

Dimplex states 69 dB(A), while CHOICE exposes only that it tested high-fan noise; the numerical CHOICE result is behind its member access. Therefore there is no public, independent noise number on which to rank this model against another portable AC. A 69 dB(A) manufacturer figure should be treated as a specification, not a guarantee of the sound level at your bed or desk.

The archived sheet lists 360 m³/hour airflow and three published thermostat-related ranges, while later manual material identifies three fan speeds. Airflow figures can vary with fan setting and test method. Expect the high setting to move air fastest and be loudest; use the lower settings when maintaining an already-cooled room if the resulting temperature is acceptable.
Installation: what must be connected
The included window kit and remote are part of the original package. The manual material identifies an exhaust hose, hose adaptor, upper drainage hole, lower drain hole, cool-air filter and hot-air filter. The exhaust hose must be installed for cooling mode: without a route for condenser heat to leave the room, the appliance cannot operate as intended.
- Choose a suitable position. Place the unit close enough to a window for the hose to reach without sharp bends, while leaving the clearances specified by your matching manual. Keep the floor able to support roughly 30 kg and allow access to the filters and drain points.
- Fit the hose adaptor. Attach the supplied adaptor to the exhaust hose and then to the air outlet on the appliance. Do not substitute a connector that merely appears to fit; diameter and locking features must match.
- Install the window kit. Assemble the supplied slider or panel in the opening and seal gaps around it. The original kit is designed for the DCP11MULTI system, but an old or missing kit may require replacement.
- Connect the hose to the window panel. Keep the run as short and straight as practical. A crushed or excessively extended hose restricts airflow and can reduce cooling.
- Plug into the correct outlet. Use the electrical requirements and safety instructions in the manual for your unit. Avoid routing the cable where it can be pinched by the window or create a trip hazard.
- Run cooling only after the exhaust path is complete. Check that hot air is leaving outdoors and that the window panel is stable before selecting the cooling mode.
Window designs vary. Before paying for a replacement slider, measure the opening range, hose diameter and connector shape. The existence of an original Dimplex kit does not establish that any particular aftermarket panel or hose will fit.
Dehumidifier mode and drainage
The model is a portable AC with a dry function, not a dedicated whole-home dehumidifier. Dimplex’s archived sheet states 1.7 L/hour, while a later New Zealand manual excerpt states 50 L/day under the specific test condition of 30°C and 80% relative humidity. The manual distinguishes the drainage arrangement from cooling. It identifies upper and lower drain holes and says a drain hose is not supplied for dry mode; depending on the installation, you may need to attach one. Follow the manual’s instructions for continuous drainage and for emptying any internal tank. Never assume that “self-evaporative” means no water will ever need to be drained: humidity, room temperature and operating mode affect how much condensate is produced.
Controls, timer and maintenance
The documentation covers a remote control, a 0–24-hour timer and sleep mode. Exact button names can differ by remote revision, so use the handset supplied with your unit or the manual that matches its model and revision. Set the desired mode and temperature first, then use the timer for delayed start or stop if the display and remote support that function.
Filter care
The manual identifies separate cool- and hot-air filters. Inspect them regularly, especially in dusty rooms or when airflow appears weaker. Switch the appliance off before removing a filter, clean it using the method specified in the matching manual, and reinstall it only when dry. A blocked filter raises airflow resistance and can make the unit noisier and less effective.

The manual includes an error-code section and water-drain procedure. Record the code shown, switch the appliance off safely, and follow the corresponding entry rather than repeatedly restarting it. If a full-water condition is indicated, drain from the instructed outlet and check that the cap or hose is secure before resuming operation.

The manufacturer’s capacity, room-size and noise figures should remain clearly labelled as specifications rather than independent test outcomes.
Buying a DCP11MULTI in 2026

- Confirm the identity. Photograph the model number, serial information and rating plate. Check that it says DCP11MULTI and note the refrigerant, electrical data and weight shown there.
- Establish condition. Ask whether the compressor, fan, remote, display and all operating modes have been tested. Look for cracks around the hose outlet, damaged casters, missing drain caps and brittle window-kit plastic.

Replacement hoses, window kits and adaptors
Dimplex’s documentation confirms that the DCP11MULTI uses a window installation system, exhaust hose and adaptor, but it does not establish compatibility for a particular third-party replacement. Before ordering, compare four measurements: window-slider adjustment range, hose internal diameter, adaptor connection and the locking method at the appliance outlet.

Current Dimplex support and spare-parts routes may be useful starting points, but model-specific DCP11MULTI stock was not established in the available material. Ask for confirmation using the full model and revision, and retain photographs of the original parts. Do not force a universal hose onto the outlet or seal a connector with an improvised restriction that could reduce airflow.
How it compares with a currently available portable AC

For running-cost estimates, multiply the appliance’s measured kilowatt draw by your electricity tariff and hours of operation. The 1.28 kW figure in the Dimplex sheet is a rated-power specification, not a promise that consumption will remain constant at every thermostat setting.
